Loki Renard & Jane Henry-Dirty Look

First of all, please forgive any weirdness that may show up in posts over the next few days. WordPress is rolling out a new editor, and I’m not used to it yet. I haven’t had the time to sit in play with it yet. Probably this weekend. 

OK, now that’s been said, let’s talk about today’s book. Today we have Dirty Look, whch is another collab between Jane and Loki. Now, you know that I like both of these ladies, as they have shown up here before, and I’m totally down for a good collab. 

So, let’s talk about the story, shall we? We start with Mia. She has left the family nest in Italy and is now in Boston, so that she can go to college. Huge change. She is as far away as she is because she wants to get away from her family and the Family. Her father is the big boss, and he has kept her in a protective shell her entire life, so going away to college in another country is a huge bit of independence for her, especially since she’s all alone. (Or so she thinks.) All of a sudden, she finds out that she’s not. 

Enzo was specifically tasked to go to Boston and watch over Mia. He had failed his boss once before, and this is his chance to redeem himself. He’s been watching over Mia very carefully. Very, very, very carefully. When he sees a man in Mia’s apartment, he rushes over from his apartment across the street, breaks down her door, and throws the guy out. Then he and Mia get up close and personal. Which only gets worse when it turns out he’s her new prof. 

I think that Enzo is very protective. Very protective. I think that he should’v or could’ve backed off a little bit. I get making sure that his boss’ daughter is safe, but she should get to make some mistakes so that she can learn. But, that probably wouldn’t have been as good a story, so, I guess I’ll take it, lol. 

I think that Mia did go a smidge wild, but I can’t blame her too much. She’s never had the chance to make mistakes and screw up, and if this isn’t the time to do it, I don’t know when is. I think that she is a lot stronger than she has been given credit for.

There is a fantastic line in the book when the boss asks Enzo why he has his daughter’s name in his naked mouth.

Loki Renard-Seeded

Seeded is a fun and filthy little story. It takes in the far future, one where the history is even crazier than our present. It’s a RH/menage kind of story, and there are definitely some interesting goings-on.

So, Lyra has worked really, really, really hard to get her job. She orbits the earth in a shuttle, doing all kinds of surveillance and such like. Then, she sees an anomaly out in space, so, being the curious sort, she goes off to investigate it. And that’s when everything changes.

You see, the mysterious anomaly is a spaceship called Virility. The crew of the Virility is all about breeding. They are out to inseminate as many species as possible. The goal is to make an ideal species that is a mix of everyone. And not only are they out there inseminating species, they are also inseminating space itself. Lots of fucking going on here.

They haven’t kept any of the women, at least until Lyra. Then again, none of the other women have tried to crash their ship right into the Virility. Talon, the captain of the ship, sees something about her and decides that he is going to keep her. But, of course it ain’t that easy. Lyra is bound and determined to get back to Earth, and she’s going to do everything she can to get there, including sabotaging things. Doing that brings her to the attention of Shank, the disciplinarian of the ship, and she gets punished for her transgressions. Then she meets Luca, who looks pretty human, and they become very friendly. Very, very friendly, if you catch what I’m pitching.

There is some fantastic fucking going on in this story. There’s also a chunk of humor in here. I spent some time just laughing my ass off. There were also times that were really sad. I did have tears going on when I read it.

I like that each guy met a need in Lyra, and she met a need each of the guys had. It is a really good relationship for everyone. I definitely think that she should be the captain of the ship though. It was pretty funny when she kept telling Talon that. And Major Tom? I’m a huge Bowie fan, so I had Space Oddity in my head after meeting that.

This is not one of Loki’s darker reads, but it is definitely worth it.

The void monster thingie is really fascinating. And so is Lyra’s solution.

I don’t know whether I like before Lyra or after Lyra most. There are definitely differences and similarities in there.

Loki Renard-Hammer

It’s been a while since I’ve had a Loki book on here, which is a shame, and I’m pretty sure I only have myself to blame for that. So, let’s rectify that with Hammer, shall we?

So, Jazz is a bartender and is trying to make her life work, which isn’t all that easy with not much education or training. So now she’s living in the bad part of the bad part of town. Then there is Jake. He’s her next door neighbor that she has been secretly lusting after for the past 8 months or so. One night, when he comes home all bloody and beaten, she decides to start a conversation with him, that leads to a magnificent night, which leads to him beating some guys who broke into her apartment and then into his.

The reason that there were 3 thugs breaking into her apartment was that Jazz’s ex-boyfriend makes pond scum look and smell pretty. Normally that wouldn’t be so much of a problem except for the fact that he’s also a cop, and he can really make Jazz’s life miserable. In fact, he has really made her life miserable. Luckily, Jake was there to make it a little less miserable. He took her away from it all.

I like Jake, most of the time. I think that he is a good man who has been through some really shitty stuff and has done some really shitty stuff, in defense of his country, but still. I think there’s probably a little part of him missing somewhere, because you don’t go through all that without losing something, but he’s still good deep down.

Jazz has issues, but I am not surprised about that at all. I would have problems too if I had gone through what she did. Then there’s Rodney the slimy ex, who put her through hell. I don’t blame her for not wanting to trust men after that. I like her though, because she keeps trying, you know?

I don’t particularly care for some of the side characters in the book. Like Remington? Him I could totally take or leave, period. Preferably leave. Tristan and Rock are better.

There are some really hard actions and decisions that happen in the book. They are hard on Jake and Jazz. They make the story really intense because the emotions behind everything are just so vivid and real.

Loki Renard-Instinct

Loki is back and she’s got a scifi book for us today. It was in her scifi stuff that I first fell in love with Loki. Don’t get me wrong, I like everything she writes, but the scifi stuff is always going to be near and dear to my heart, so Instinct is seriously right in my wheelhouse.

Here’s how the story works. We’re in a far flung future where the spice must flow. Whoops, wait, sorry, no spice, wrong series. We’re still in a far distant future. I mean,  tens of thousands of years ahead of us. So far ahead of us that those people would probably look back at us the way that we look back at the Neanderthals. The people in the future have pretty gotten rid of death, so the majority of people in the current civilization live in stasis. When you don’t die, you can’t just live all those people wandering around. Sex is pretty much illegal, and reproduction definitely is. Again, when you don’t die, you don’t want to keep loading up more people.

Into this world was born Tselia. She is an explorer. She spends her life going from planet to planet, watching what’s happening on. The last time she landed on a planet, she started a little bit of a war. A little bit of a war that killed off the majority of a planet’s people. Now she’s been sent to Hades Exile, which is in the ass-end of universe, and she’s supposed to orbit around there, observing for the next 3 years. Only, that’s not quite what happened. She ended up stranded on the planet. Because of course she did.

Zion is a guardian of his village and his people. He is highly sought after by the women of his village because he is strong, virile, and pretty much all around awesome AF. But, when he sees Tselia, he knows that she’s his mate, no matter what any of the women of his village might say. And some of them really do have a whole helluva lot to say about it. Nosy bitches.

There is a lot that happens in this book. I mean, for one thing, you have a huge culture gap. Zion and Tselia’s cultures are basically 10K years apart. Think about how much the world has changed since you were a kid to now, and then multiply that by about a billion. Then you have all kinds of different traditions and such. There are some serious issues going on about that.

I like Tselia. I think that she’s terribly, terribly young though and very naive. She’s got some superiority issues, but I don’t think those are completely her fault so much as that’s just what she’s been taught as part of her culture. I do think she is a little bratty sometimes, and brings on a lot of her trouble.

Zion. Hmm, well, Zion. I’m not sure how I feel about him. I understand where he’s coming from sometimes, I get his POV. I just think that it might have helped if he had listened to Tselia a little. I mean, not about everything, but there were things that she was worried about and he just kind of dismissed them.

I have to say, I love what Tselia does to Tyna. It’s pretty epic. I laughed out loud a little about it.

Loki Renard-Vicious Looks

Loki has written another book with another wicked man for us to lust over in Vicious Looks. She’s said that the Vicious books are going to be a series, but they are going to be more episodic than serial. Each book will be complete in itself, but they are going to be like a TV show. You know, like MASH, only with a lot more sex and a lot less Hawkeye. It’s a quick read, and if you want a little more, I suggest you go find the prequel, Vicious Tease, which definitely is a tease.

So, Kitty is a courier. She’s not just any courier though. She’s the kind that bad guys hire when they have something a little less than legal to get from point A to point B. That can be letters, money, diamonds, all that kind of stuff. She’s pretty sure that she’s good at what she does, and she makes a lot of money doing it. She’s fairly isolated, except for her best friend, Blaze, who is in the same biz.

Then there is Vicious. He is… not a good guy. I’m not entirely sure that he’s a bad guy either. Let’s just say that he’s a guy. He’s a powerful guy, quite obviously. He’s way on the wrong side of the law, which doesn’t necessarily make him a bad guy. And he’s decided that he’s going to make Kitty his new courier, whether she wants to work with him or not. And right now, she really doesn’t. In fact, she tries to get him to hire her BFF Blaze, because she’s totally into Vicious and wants to totally fuck him. But nope. He wants Kitty. And what Vicious wants, he has a habit of getting.

I am… intrigued by Vicious. I really, really, really, REALLY want to know more about him. I don’t think he’s quite as on the wrong side of the law as we think he is. I don’t think he’s on the right side of the law, either. I’m pretty sure he is the law. (Now I have Sylvester Stallone as Judge Dredd in my head saying “I am the law!”) I think that we are going to be in for a helluva ride. And I think that the reason that Loki named this one the way that she did is that she is being vicious to us in only giving us a look at Vicious and Kitty.

I like Slick. I want to see if he’s going to connect more with Kitty and Vicious. I loved all the scenes with him in there. Or, maybe he’s going to hook up with Blaze.

Loki Renard-Sold

Loki’s back and she’s brought us another delicious dark reverse harem book to clutch to our dark little hearts. Sold takes place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian Texas. As a side note, I’ve read several post-apocalyptic dystopian stories that take place in TX. Gotta wonder what’s going on down there, don’t ya?

So, the way that this one works is that years ago there was an Event that happened. It included war, disease, and women dying off. Now there aren’t a whole lot of women. What women there are, are kept in harems or safely locked away. Generally, it’s only the rich and powerful who are able to get to women and to breed them. Boys are turned into soldiers and such, girls are kept so that they can breed the next generation. The goal is to breed the woman as many times as possible in the hopes of getting more females, but since most babies are born males, there still just aren’t enough women to go around.

Trissa is one of the wild people. She lives outside the city of Dallas, in a cabin that her father built before she was born. He kept her there and taught her how to hide and survive. Now she goes around disguised as a man, because if anyone were to know that she was a woman, things would be bad. But one day, she goes into town to sell some oranges that she “found”, and while eating some stew, her fake beard falls off, and a whole bunch of men, some of whom have never seen a woman, try and grab her. Then the Sheriff shows up and decides to sell her. Until then, he’s sticking her in with the cut men, Mattias and Elias.

Wild fits Trissa really well. She’s not civilized and she will fight everything and everyone, even when she gets spanked or strapped. She’s also really naive. I mean, her life has always been either her and her father or her alone. She has no problem saying the word fuck like it means nothing, but if you ask her, the worst cuss word ever is income tax. (As it’s coming up on tax season here, I can’t blame her for thinking that.) She calls the seven men who end up buying her by names that suits some personality or physical trait she sees in them the first time she sees them. Silver Eyes, Tattoo Face (Keanu), Pharoh (Mark), Gladiator (Alexios), Cowboy (Rick), Zen (Steve), and Nordic Man (Tore). So ok, they aren’t necessarily the most original names ever, but as she hates them, I figure they are pretty nice names. She’s not calling them parking warden or anything. I think that Trissa is pretty cunning but somewhat ignorant, which doesn’t mean that she isn’t smart. It just means that she hasn’t had the chance to learn about something in particular. I mean, she doesn’t really understand the whole mechanics of human reproduction because no one has explained it to her. She’s an extremely interesting mix of naivte, innocence, and sensuality all mixed up in one person, which can make it hard to get a good read on her.

This isn’t the darkest thing I’ve ever read by Loki, but it isn’t all lightness and happiness either.

Loki Renard & Jane Henry-Hard Time

Loki and Jane have gotten together again and co-written another great book. Hard Time is the sequel to their last book, and it was definitely worth the wait.

Rico is an FBI agent, and he’s bound and determined to bring down the Francoise family. They are up to no good, and he’s over it. He is also just slightly obsessed with Jasmine Francoise. She’s beautiful, talented, gorgeous, and definitely into whatever her family is doing right up to her pretty eyebrows. He follows her around and pulls her over in her fancy little car every chance he gets. He’s attracted to her, and he’d love to turn her over his knee and paddle her naughty ass.

Jasmine is controlled by her father and brother. She doesn’t want to do anything that they are making her do, but her dad will hurt her if she doesn’t do anything. She’s making her plans to get away, but it isn’t always easy. Her one bright spot is when she gets to see Rico. She wants him so much, but he’s law and she’s… not. But, when push comes to shove, Rico is there to help her.

I felt so sorry for Jasmine. She’s really just put into a horrible place with her father. He’s a fucking asshole. Just a fucking asshole. Her brother isn’t necessarily better, most of the time. But, even with me feeling sorry for her, I think that she’s stronger than she thought that she was. Rico is a good guy, I mean, yeah, he’s a cop, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are good people, if you know what I mean. But, he really is a good man, and all he wants to do is be Jasmine’s Daddy and to take care of his little girl. The chemistry between the two of them is pretty explosive.

Remember how I said that her dad was a fucking asshole? Yeah, he’s even worse than that, but that’s OK, he gets everything he deserves.

I think we may be getting a story about her brother next and it will be an MM. I hope so. That will be so awesome.

Loki Renard-Angelo

If you’ve followed the blog for a while, you know that I love Loki Renard, that tricksy fox. And, you know that I love her House of Vitali books. I think Angelo is a simply marvelous character. He’s devious, deviant, twisted, tricky, sly, and convoluted. But, we’ve never gotten a lot of his backstory. I mean, something had to turn Angelo into the Angelo we know and love. You aren’t just born that convoluted, at least I don’t think so. But now, Loki has gifted us with Angelo:Making a Monster.

Bobby and Angelo are… well, they are being Bobby and Angelo. Bobby is falling in love with Angelo, you know, as one does. And he wants to know more about his lover. Of course, we know Angelo. he doesn’t want anyone to love him. He wants them all to be afraid of him. Bobby, being Bobby, won’t let anything drop and keeps asking Angelo questions about his past. Angelo, being Angelo, finds a way to stop him from asking questions, but of course, it pisses off Mark.

The story switches between current time and flashbacks. We get to see Angelo’s history through his eyes, as it’s happening to him, instead of him telling Bobby or Mark about it, which you know he would filter and skew. I found his history to be fascinating, and I really want to know about it.

And as always, when it comes to Angelo, you know, he has so many plans on top of plans on top of plans. He always knows how Bobby and Mark are going to act. Always. But here’s my latest question about Angelo. Does he know what they are going to do because he forces them to do it? Because if he does action A he knows that Bobby is going to do action B, which is usually try to kill Angelo? Or does he take into account their personalities and act in a way that if he does something he can predict the most likely action that they will take? We already know that he has plan A-ZZZ set up so that he is ready for anything and everything. There’s no way to trip him up, really. He’s just so damn twisty.

I love Angelo. He’s one of my favorite characters. I’d count him as a book boyfriend, but I’m pretty sure I don’t have the parts that he’s looking for, and well, frankly, I’ve seen what he does to his lovers.

Loki Renard-Brute

Oh, my chickadees. Nine-foot tall alien? Check. Cock as big around as your wrist? Check. Rebellious heroine who has no plans of submitting any time soon? Double check. Definitely sounds like Loki Renard has written a new book. And Brute is filllllthy. Soooooo filthy. Like take 3 showers and still feel hot and bothered filthy.

So here’s our story. It’s far in the future and Earth is nearly depopulated. Things are crumbling, the infrastructure doesn’t really exist much anymore, and humans are leaving the world as they can, because there just isn’t much left on Earth. However, Pyxel isn’t planning on leaving anytime soon. She’s got a horde of stuff that she is saving, as part of Earth’s history. But, there is one chip that she’s currently selling. She needs the money to make sure that she can maintain her stuff.

Crash and Farti are traders. They’ve spent months and months on the way to Earth so that they can get this truly valuable chip that Pyxel is selling. When Crash, who is ginormous and keeps Farti safe, goes out to meet the seller, he sees that Pyxel’s leg is hurt and he wants to take her back to his ship to fix it. That’s when he realizes several things, including the fact that Pyxel really likes it when he punishes her.

This is a pretty quick read, with some really hot scenes in it. The first big scene between Crash and Pyxel was pretty much off the charts let’s turn this shit up to 11. Pyxel is a very stubborn character. She isn’t going to give into anyone. It has to be forced, each and every time, even when she loves whatever is about to happen. She also has a strong sense of duty and feels like she has to maintain all these treasures that her family has gathered over the years to keep the history of Earth safe. I mostly like her, but there are times when she is a real brat and she really needs her ass whipped. Good thing that Crash is there to take care of her. I like Crash. Mostly. There are a couple of times where I was a little unsure, but generally, I like him. We don’t see a lot about Farti, other than Pyxel thinking that he’s Crash’s pet.

And the chip? Yeah, totally not what I was expecting.

Anthology-Daddy’s Demands Pt. 1

So yeah, I’ve been putting this one off, but not because I didn’t like the book, because I did and I do, but more because life is stupid and adulting is hard. The fact that adulting is hard sometimes made this the perfect set of stories for right now, because it’s 25 stories about Daddies who want to make sure that their little girls are taken care of and aren’t going to have to adult too hard. Of course, some of the Daddies are a little darker than others, or a little more strict, but considering who wrote some of these stories, are you surprised? I’m really not.

There are a lot of great things about an anthology like Daddy’s Demands. One of them is that no matter what kind of mood I’m in, there’s a story there for it. Which is nice, because I never know what kind of mood I’m going to be in from day to day. Plus, with the fact that there are 25 stories, they are pretty short, so if you have a minute to read a story and you don’t want to get dragged into something, you can find a quick story. So, if you are like me and you hate going to bed with an unfinished book, an anthology is a godsend. There’s also the fact that when you get an anthology, you get the chance to read authors that you aren’t familiar with, which is even nicer. Even with as much as I read, and as many of those authors I have read, there were still a couple of authors I wasn’t familiar with.

Of course, then you have the downside to large anthologies like this, at least for bloggers and reviewers like me. There are TWENTY-FIVE stories in here. Do you know what trying to review 25 stories is like? I would get bored writing a blog post that summarized 25 stories. You would get bored reading it. My goal is to not bore my readers. I like you guys, I want to keep you around. I liked all the stories because all the authors are talented, but you know that there are always going to be some that you like more than others. That’s just the way that it is. So, what you’re going to get is a 2 part post, today and tomorrow. That way I can talk about my favorites and not burn you out or burn me out, and Daddy will be happy. 🙂

Renee Rose-Mafia Daddy

Renee’s story ties in with some of her other stories. You get Yuri from The Russian and the tie in from King of Diamonds. Jenna, the heroine of this one was supposed to marry Nico Tacone from KoD, and when her father’s right hand man comes to take her home, Yuri steps in to try to stop him. So, we now have definite proof that they are all part of the same universe. This is a sweet story. I know, I know, you don’t think that Renee can write sweet, but she did. I really enjoyed it, including the connections to her other stories.

Loki Renard-Daddy’s Little Captive

You know how I said some of the Daddies were a little darker and stricter than others? Yeah, Loki’s Dominic is one of them. He comes into the little restaurant where Marina works as a server on a regular basis, and when he comes in late one night and everyone else leaves, Marina just can’t. Lots of kinkery fuckery going on, including one of Loki’s trademarks, a cage. This one is under the bed though.

Jane Henry-Professor Daddy

This one ties in with Jane’s NYC Doms and Verge. Giada is a student who is getting ready to take a creative writing course from a prof that she thinks is going to be stodgy. Only Geoffry Slade is anything but stodgy. So she decides to poke the bear. I’ve been talking off and on with other Daddy authors about brats, and I’m pretty sure that Giada totally counts as a brat. I really liked her and how she thinks it’s fun to poke the bear, knowing what she’s going to get.

OK, there’ll be more tomorrow, but it’s late, and my life is still stupid, so I’m going to go to bed.
