2020 Top MC Books

I didn’t read as many MC books last year as I have in other years, which kind of surprises me, but I looked at the books I shelved on GR last year, and there was the proof, right there. Who am I to doubt GR? So, instead of a 2 part list, I’m just going to have a 1 part list that will have some of my top motorcycle books of last year.

BB Blaque-GFY

This is the 4th book in BB’s Masters MC series, and is where the Masters truly turn into the Malevolent. (my review) I love Colt and Tuesday, and Kash and Barely, and I have felt their journies so much. There were parts that were terrible and painful, and parts that were just so incredibly powerful. Plus, we get some of the hottest MMf sex with Kash, Barely, and Sundown. I love these books.

Ker Dukey-Rage

I love Ker Dukey. She has collabed with K Webster many times, and is a fantastic writer. This one was her second book in the RBMC shared world books. (My review) Rage earned his name because he was so full of rage after his wife died. This book covers a few years, and there are a lot of twists and turns. I thought that Ker put everyone through hell in this one.

OK, that’s all for this list. I know it’s a short one, but that’s the way that it goes sometimes.

Ker Dukey-Lost Boy

I first met Ker Dukey back when I first met K Webster, reading their serial killer series, Pretty Little Dolls. BTW, go fucking read that series, because it’s fanfuckingtastic. Anyway, Lost Boy isn’t part of that series, but it does involve a serial killer. And it’s intense and so good.

We start with Willis’s wife meeting him in jail. Willis is a serial killer and she wants to confront him and he wants to see her. She leaves him telling him that he’s never going to see the boy she’s pregnant with.

Flash forward several years and Willis manages to escape from prison during a transport. He wants his boy.

Jack and his mother have become good friends with Liz and her mother. The kids are 7 and best friends. They are inseparable and they love to play Marco Polo. One day, a car rushes into the driveway and their mothers grab the kids and tell them to hide. Jack and Liz hide under the bed and listen to the atrocities that are happening. All of a sudden, Jack is pulled out from under the bed and away from her. She waits and waits and waits until the cops pull her out.

Many years later, Liz is all grown up and living on her own. She’s in college and living with a good friend. She’s taking psychology, working, and trying to be as “normal” as possible. It doesn’t always work. And it only gets worse as all of a sudden women whose lives touch hers start to die. She’s convinced that Willis has come back and is going to get her.

The book is told exclusively from Liz’s POV. And I think that makes it so much more intense. We don’t see anything from anyone else’s POV, and I think that makes the story that much more intense. I think that at times reality only has a passing relationship to anything in this book, but it can be difficult to tell if or when that happens.

I spent a lot of time while I was reading this with my heart in my throat. I didn’t know what was going to happen next and things that I would happen didn’t happen, or even worse, happened in a completely differrent way, if that makes sense. It makes sense to me at least, and it’s my brain that has to make any kind of sense out of anything.

Anyhow, I like Liz. She really does try to make some sense out of the madness that is her life and she really tries to use some of the trauma to help her out later in her life. I think that she is really strong, even as she’s vulnerable and fragile at the same time. It’s a very careful line that Ker had to walk, and I think that she really did well. And it’s totally fantastic.

OK, that’s all for this one. No spoilers because pretty much anything is going to be a spoiler, so you are just going to have to go read it. Really, read it.

Ker Dukey-Rage

Ker Dukey has written several books that I really enjoy. She has given us Rage, which is actually her second entry into the RBMC world. The first one is Animal. You don’t have to have read Animal to understand this one, but I highly recommend it. This is the story of Gabe, AKA Rage, and Willa.

We first meet Willa as a 15 year old girl. Her brother, Milo, is trying to be a big deal, a drug dealer, underworld crime lord kind of thing. But he kinda isn’t smart, he’s definitely obsessive when it comes to Willa, and he’s definitely fucked up. He’s willing to do things or to make Willa do things that aren’t OK in any way, shape, or form. Including selling his little sister’s virginity for the money for a bar.

We skip ahead a few years, and Willa is now an adult, and her brother has gotten into serious money trouble and owes the Little Rock chapter of the RBMC a lot of money. When they come to collect, Willa offers to be collaterol for her brother. The guys who came didn’t agree with it, but one of them, Gabe, took her anyway.

Gabe and his best friend Jameson have left the Army and they are just waiting for their reserve time to run down. Once it does, they are going to prospect for the RBMC. For right now, they are running errands and providing muscle. When they walk into the bar and Gabe sees Willa, there’s just something about her that draws him to her. He wants to save her, but it goes beyond that.

You know, I know that life isn’t fair in any way, but damn, these two really get the shit end of the stick. I mean, damn. Their story really hurt my heart and I really wanted things to be so much better for them.

There are a lot of time jumps in between the chapters. Sometimes it’s a couple of weeks, sometimes it’s years. I think it works really well in this case. I wouldn’t like it in all books, but it needs it here. It lets you see the growth and evolution of the characters without having to slog through months and months and years.

It is a pretty quick read, and once I got into it, I didn’t get out of it. I would really like to see more of Willa and Gabe/Rage.

No spoilers today. Go check it out!

Ker Dukey-Heart Thief

Heart Thief is a part of the Sinister Fairy Tales collection. I’m not sure if Ker was trying to retell a fairy tale or if she was coming up with her own. Either way, I’m perfectly happy with the book the way that it came out, and I would actually love to have more, because it was a pretty quick read.

We start with sisters, Clara and Mona. Clara is the older of the two. They live in a very restrictive religious cult where their father is the leader. Neither one of them is happy though. They live on a small island in the ocean, and their father has told them for years that if they go off the island and into the outside world, they will be tainted, and horrible things will happen, including having to spend time in the dungeon and be cleansed afterward. But Clara has managed to leave the island occasionally. She gives Mona her birthday present, and then disappears, and then turns up dead.

Now, 5 years later, Mona is about to turn 18. She hates where she’s living even more than she did when her sister is there. The only person she really feels close to is Eli, and he is problematical. He wants to marry Mona and become the next leader of the island. Mona has other plans though, and they end up being with people named Colt and Cash, the twin Ward brothers, who have more history with Mona than you might expect.

There is a lot of pain and sadness in this. Colt and Cash have their issues with their own pain, and then the pain that they share as twins. They have had some bad shit happen, and they have an asshole father who is going to do what he can to push that pain and make it worse.

Mona has her pain because of her missing sister, who was so close to her and who she almost shared a soul with. And with the way that her father rules their island. He’s a dickhole. No, what, that’s too nice for him. He’s the dickhole of the worms that feed on whale shit. Mona is really strong, and pretty fearless. I mean, when you look at the book, you can just see how she pushes on despite whatever fear she has and she doesn’t really let it stop her.

OK, no spoilers today. It’s a pretty short book, and I’m already worried that I might have pushed a little far in this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

K Webster & Ker Dukey-Share Me

When you put these two ladies together, you get some magic. And Share Me is definitely in that magic category.

This book is an RH, which means we’ve got a lot of very hunky guys with just one very lucky woman. In this book, we have Clove, along with her guys, Sebastian, Leo, Zac, and Ford. And while I don’t really want to be Clove, I wouldn’t mind filling her shoes for a hot minute.

So, Clove, at 17, lost her mother. Her father is a politician and she’s practically an accessory to him. At her mother’s funeral, when a reporter gets in her face, she gets rescued by 4 definitely hot and hunky guys. Turns out that they are her new protection detail. Seb, Leo, Zac, and Ford all served together and then they started a security agency. They are all so close that they are basically brothers.

Fast forward 6 years, and Clove is still stuck being her dad’s accessory as he’s now running for the White House. She has a boyfriend, but he’s not all that exciting. Besides, she’s deeply in love/lust with her guys. So, she takes off to dump her boyfriend and then meet her father for an “outing”. For outing, read photo op. On her way out of the cafe, some dickwad purposely aims for her with his car. Luckily, her security was top-notch and they saved her. But now her dad wants to send her to a safe house, along with the guys, so they can find out who did this and to keep it from happening again.

Seb, Leo, Ford, and Zac have all been madly wanting Clove since she was legal, and now that they are all in hiding together, and it looks like it could happen, everyone is triple horny and ready to play until their bits beg for mercy.

Being as there are 4 heroes, you can pretty much guess that there is all the sex, all the time, and you’d be right. There is a lot of sex, and it happens a whole lot. I have to say that this is pretty much filthy. And filthy in the very best kind of way. There’s some one-on-one, but most of the sex is done in groups of two or more. There’s some really dirty stuff that happens, so you might want to be prepared for a cleanup at some point.

But, even while this has all sex all the time, it’s not just all sex all the time. There is an actual plot here, which is to guarantee Clove’s safety. There’s also a budding relationship being built. While the guys have been her safe spot for 6 years, having them as her friends and security guys are different to having them as her lovers, and it’s an altogether different kind of dynamic that they have to figure out. Then you toss in some distractions, and well, you get the idea.

I like Clove. I think that she is smart and funny. I also think that she’s incredibly naive sometimes, but she was brought up in an incredibly sheltered environment so it’s not all that surprising that she is a little naive.

The guys all have their own personalities, and K and Ker did really well to make sure that they all have their own voices and that you can see their personalities clearly.

OMG, the scene with the bear? Fucking steaming.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one today. Go check it out! Happy reading!

K. Webster & Ker Dukey-Vas

Ker and KWeb have decided to help me out with the ABC challenge I’m doing on Goodreads this year by making sure I had a book that started with V by giving me Vas. Well, I guess they gave it to everyone, but I’m totally going to pretend that they were thinking only of me when they hit publish. Don’t harsh my mellow, OK?

Vas is the 3rd book in the V Games series, and features, oddly enough, Vas. The featured men in each of the books is from one of the First Families of the Russian mafiya. This one focuses on the scion of the Volkov family. Well, he’s sort of a member of the Volkovs. His old man is Volkov senior, but his mother was a maid in the household and Vas didn’t know who his father was until he was much older. He did spend time around Diana (Ven) and Irina (Vlad), his two half-sisters, growing up, and now that they are all adults, they are all close, especially Diana and Vas, because of the way he helped her.

Old man Volkov has pretty much claimed Vas, since he wants to have a male heir. Even though he raised Diana and Irina to be strong, powerful women and told them that they would be able to make their own choices in life, he fucked them over, and went with Vas instead.

Vas was an underground fighter, and now he has a serious reputation in the underground circles. No one wants to take him on. He now helps to train fighters for the V Games from different families. He also goes to visit his sisters regularly, especially Irina. Why does he visit Irina a lot? Well, that’s because Darya is there. Darya is a slave that Vasiliev the elder has. There’s just something about her that draws Vas to her. And it’s not even that she spends pretty much all her time naked. He’s obsessed with her, and he wants to get her out of there somehow. However, all of his plans to get her out and make her safe become suddenly irrelevant when it turns out that she’s Vlad’s sister.

Darya was raised in a religious orphanage and then spent time in a convent before the devil man came and took her away and gave her to Vasiliev, who she calls Molokh, a demon. When it comes out that she’s Vlad’s sister (probably), he swears that he will keep her safe from his terrible, monstrous father. When Vas tells Vas that he wants access to Darya, Vlad says sure, but he will have to train a fighter for him, Alyona Voskoboynikov, a young woman who is a member of the lesser of the First Families.

So, Vas, Darya, and Alyona all go off to Moscow so that Vas can train Alyona in a safe(ish) place, and so that Darya will be safe from Molokh. And thus we go into the story.

I have to admit that I didn’t like Vas when we first met him in Vlad. I thought that he was kinda creepy, but by Ven, he had really grown on me, and by his own book, I was so excited to see it come out. I was really excited to see what Ker and K would do with him. I was also looking forward to see what would come out of the actions of the last book and what would happen to Vika. I have to say, I’m perfectly happy with the resolution of both things. I don’t like Vika, I never really have, she’s scheming, grasping, narcissistic, and thinks she’s really smarter than she actually is. She wants to think that she’s Machiavelli, when in fact she’s more like Machia, no velli, at least I think so. I like Darya. I like her a whole lot. And I’ll forever be loyal to Diana, who is Queen, but I think that Darya may actually be the strongest of all the women in this series. She goes through hell, yanked from a safe(ish) place in the convent to being a sex slave who is abused, and yet, she never loses herself. If you ask me, that makes her pretty damn strong. I think that she and Vas are going to be a serious power couple in their world, plus with the connections they have to Vlad and Ven, I think the next generation of First Families is going to rule the world.

I don’t think this one is quite as dark as the other books are, Vas and Darya’s love story is a little sweeter. However, not quite as dark and a little sweeter doesn’t mean light and super sweet.

boxing-female-fight-161017

I have to say, I didn’t quite expect what happened to Vika, but I do think that it will work well. Vas is a pretty good guy for being who he is.

I can’t wait to see what happens with our Moscow brothers. I think that they are going to be interesting, and I think that I’m pretty happy that they never laid a hand on Darya, because that would’ve been more than a little bit weird. I do like the guys though. I think they are pretty fantastic, and I’m glad that we are going to still see them.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out, and make sure that you read the other two books in the series, otherwise you won’t get this one. Happy reading!

K. Webster & Ker Dukey-Ven

K and Ker are two of my favorite authors and then when they get together, that favorite-ness is more than squared, it’s like quadrupled. And yes, I have a lot of favorite authors. I could probably do you a list, if you really wanted, but the best way to know who they are is to just watch who I blog about. Anyway, neither here nor there. What is relevant is Ven.

No, these lovely ladies haven’t given us a book about diagrams or anything. Wouldn’t that be funny? A dark romance written around Venn diagrams. This book is about Veniaman Vetrov, scion of one of the First Families of Russian crime. It’s also the second of the V Games books.

This one more or less, kinda sorta, maybe picks up where Vlad left off. Well, I think it might be more accurate to say that it overlaps with the end parts of Vlad, timing wise. You really don’t see a whole lot of overlap between Vlad’s book and this book, and you could read Ven as a standalone and still have enough of an idea as to what’s going on, but I would always recommend reading the whole thing, because why the hell not?

So, Diana has been disgraced because she was having sex with another man. Vlad guts the man and drags her to the Vetrov’s house and throws her at Ven. He tells the Vetrovs that he wants Diana in the V Games. However, Ven has long had a thing for Diana. She’s had one for him too. Now that she’s in his house, he’s going to keep her safe, from everyone, including his father.

Diana has been devastated. All of the First Families now look at her as trash and as a whore. She had a valid reason to do what she did, but now she’s paying for it and is lost. She can’t cope and she’s in a house of vipers. She has to deal with Ven’s evil father, his idiotic brother, and Vika, who’s engaged to Ven’s younger brother, is Vlad’s sister, and is a poisonous snake.

OK, first off, yeah, I hate Vika. She’s a poisonous nasty little bitch, but no one deserves to be saddled to Ruslan, nor to have to deal with all the things that she ends up having to handle. Vika really wants to be Diana, though, I think. When Diana is in good shape, she’s strong, powerful, and a queen. Vika is basically a cockroach under her show, and Vika knows it. Vika may be good at plotting and planning, but Diana is better. It’s the difference between someone who’s cunning and someone who is Machiavellian. Guess which one I think Diana is? The fathers in these books all need to die slow, painful, and torturous death. Death in the most terrible way possible. They need to be disjointed finger joint by finger joint. I wonder how long you could keep someone alive like that? Ven is… I’m not always sure if I like him or not like him. I got mad at him, a lot. He reacted a lot instead of acted and didn’t always listen when he should’ve. Or maybe he listened but he didn’t hear. Either way, he done fucked up. His cousins, his cousins are pretty damn awesome.

vulture

I love Vika, Vas, and Diana’s plan. And the milk was just such a splendid touch. That was the perfect cherry on top.

It’s going to be interesting to see what goes on with Vas. I didn’t like him much in Vlad, but he got better in Ven. He was actually likable, even though he had the shitty taste to get too close to Vika. And speaking of her, HA! Sucks to be her at the end.

Diana pretty much is a queen. She’s strong, she’s fierce, she’s a proven warrior. How could I have not loved every word about her? So, go read and tell me if you love every word about her too. Happy reading!

Ker Dukey & K. Webster-Vlad

Can you tell that I can’t ever get enough of K. Webster? Trust me, it’s totally true. If she writes a book, I’m going to read the fuck out of it. It’s turning that way with Ker Dukey too. I don’t have as many of her books as I do of K’s, but I’m getting there. This is one of the reasons I love having a Kindle. I can carry so many gazillions of books all in one place. Can you imagine what my house would look like if I had paper copies of all the books I read? Thank goodness for ebooks and the library. That’s all I have to say on that. And that has nothing to do with Vlad, so let’s talk about this lovely book.

Vlad takes place in the Pretty Dolls world, but it is a standalone. Fans of the Pretty Dolls may recognize the name Vik, but he isn’t in this one at all. This is the story of Vlad Vasiliev, oldest son of the Vasiliev family, one of the First Families of Russian crime and host of the V Games. The V Games are not anything like the X Games. They are a brutal set of games where people go in and either kill or be killed, basically.

The First Families are the Vasilievs, the Vetrovs, the Volkovs, and the Voskoboynikovs. They each have their things that they do, legal and otherwise. They also all intermarry to build alliances and strengthen their families. It’s expected and no one, especially women, should expect to actually be able to fall in love and marry the person that they choose. Everyone is brought up to know their duty and they are expected to follow it. Vlad has mostly taken over the running of his family, even though his father is still alive.

Vlad knows that it’s time to marry. He asks Diana Volkov to marry him. Her father had no sons, just her and her younger sister, Irina, AKA Shadow. Diana and Irina have been groomed to take over the family business and are very good at it. Part of Diana’s concessions to their marriage is that Irina has to come with her and that Vlad has to guarantee that she won’t have to marry anyone she doesn’t want to. Vlad is more than fine with that.

Irina tends to stay in the background. Her sister is the bright light, and she’s in her shadow. She’s known Vlad all her life since their families are all close. She’s also loved him from afar for many years. She has always kind of known that she couldn’t have anything to do with him, but when he becomes engaged to her sister, she knows that she really can’t have anything to do with him, no matter what. And living in his house? That is going to be sure hell.

Vlad is so controlled, but there is one thing that is guaranteed to get under his skin, and that’s Irina. He knows he can’t have her, but he’s not about to let anyone else have her.

It’s that time again. You get to go your way, I am going to go mine. You can follow me if you would like. I love when Ker and K get together. They both create some dark and twisted worlds, but when they get together, they push each other further so the stories just get that much better. There’s a lot happening in this book. There’s the main plot, and then some smaller side stories that I’m hoping will get carried into later books. I love plots and machinations. We get the set up for the next book, as well. I’m looking forward to seeing how that’s going to play out because I’m guessing it’s going to be pretty explosive. Maybe even literally. When we get Ven, we’ll find out, I guess. I just hope I can hold out that long.

Ministry-of-education-and-science-of-russia-emblem

I did figure out who the one person was playing around with before the reveal of that. I didn’t know that that particular person had done the things in the past that they did. That was fucking creepy, and they deserved any consequences that may have come their way.

I hate Vika. There, I’ve said it. Totally hate her. She’s nasty. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen to her because I’m sure something is. She will totally deserve it. I hope it’s something really, really nasty.

Nothing had ever happen to Vlad and Irina. I love both of them. They are supercool.

OK, that’s all for this one. It’s on KU, so there is no excuse to not going over to Zon and picking it up. Happy reading!

Ker Dukey & K. Webster-Pretty Broken Dolls

So, yesterday I posted about Pretty Broken Dolls, the last book in the Pretty Little Dolls series. Today, you are going to get my review of it. And wow, what an amazing book it was. There’s also going to be a link for the giveaway, so make sure you don’t miss that.

Now, before I get started reviewing PBD, be aware that this is the absolute last book in the series, which means that there is a lot of history that has gone into it. I will be spoiling the previous three books, just by the fact that I am talking about the 4th. I will put spoilers for PBD behind a picture, as usual, so that you don’t have to worry about those. But, if you are interested in the previous 3, I have a quick synopsis here. If they sound like something you want to read, go read them and then come back. I’ll still be here. From this point, I’m going to assume that you’ve read them or you are perfectly OK with being spoiled. This is your absolute last chance. Just warning you.

About Ker Dukey

My books all tend to be darker romance, edge of your seat, angst filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my titles…prepare for the unexpected.

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light; some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.
