J.R. Thorn & Lexi C. Foss-Noir Reformatory

Noir Reformatory is another entry in the Nightmare Penitentiary shared world series. This one is kind of a cousin to Delinquent Demons by K Webster. We meet Novak in that one, and we see him in this one too. So, related, not a sequel.

Here’s our story today. We have Raven, who is a Noir. Think dark angel, or Nora. Nora start with white wings, but when they fall, they end up with black wings. Except for Raven, who was born with them, which is supposed to be impossible. On top of that, she’s a female, which is perishingly rare. She’s spent her life locked up, and now that she’s 18, she’s being taken to another prison. This time, it’s the Noir Reformatory, where the Noir are supposed to be reformed. Let’s just say it doesn’t quite go that way. She ends up throwing herself out of a helicopter, and flies to where a whole bunch of other Noir are flying. Which is, of course, Noir Reformatory, and shit is about to get real. And she’s the only female there. So, yeah.

Meanwhile, we have Sorin, Zain, and Novak. Novak was their leader, and they all fell together. They spent decades together in another prison, and now they’re being moved to this one. They all end up standing in the arena, where Sorin sees a female, who he feels the need to protect. Because, you know, female. So he manages to help, Zain comes over to help, and Raven ends up knifing him. Novak rushes to the rescue, and ends up in a different part of the prison. Raven, Sorin, and Zain end up in a cell together. Which is interesting, to say the least.

Zain and Sorin were a couple before they made it to this prison cell, and the presence of Raven doesn’t inhibit it. In fact, I think it probably made them more active. Raven really enjoyed the show, and frankly, who’s to blame her? I would. But it also makes her feel all kinds of things.

I really like Raven. I think that she’s fierce. She’s a fighter from the bones out, and she’s not going to put up with any shit from anyone, ever. She’s had to fight for her entire life, and this isn’t any different. That’s a very, very good thing, considering where she is and what is going on there, and what is likely to happen. I don’t want to be in her way when she’s working on getting what she wants, because she’s not going to let anything get in her way. I think that the only people who can stop her are Sorin and Zain, and probably Novak.

I can’t wait to see the next book, because it’s going to be so interesting!

Ugh, the Valkyries. And the Reformer. Double ugh on him.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Definitely go check it out. Happy reading!
