Renee Rose & Lee Savino-Alpha’s Challenge

So, two of my favorite authors and frequent fliers are back. In fact, Renee Rose is such a frequent flier, this is her second appearance on my humble little blog this week. But today is all about their fourth entry in their Bad Boy Alphas shifter series. Although, since Tank is a beta could it still be part of the Alpha series? Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. Onwards and upwards.

So, Alpha’s Challenge. This story, timeline-wise, overlaps the previous 2 stories. While the action is taking place in Mexico, Tank is home in Tucson, dealing with potential loose ends. This potential loose end is named Foxfire. Great name, right?

So, Foxfire is Amber’s best friend. If we remember, Amber is Garrett’s mate, is psychic, and gets taken to Mexico with him to find his sister. But first, they have a seiously shitty first day, which Foxfire has to go save Amber from. At one point, Foxfire yells at Garrett that she doesn’t care about his Werewold gang, he had just better not hurt her best friend or else. Since she’s walking out of Amber’s house at the time and Amber knows that Garrett and his friends are actually shifters and she isn’t supposed to tell anyone, Garrett thinks that Amber told Foxfire. That means wen he has to go to Mexico, he sends Tank to talk to Foxfire.

I think that Foxfire might be my favorite heroine in this series, thus far. She walks to the beat of her own drummer. She has rainbow colored hair. She’s fiesty, and fierce, and protective. She’s also just out of a really shitty relationship. When Tank shows up, she gets all hot and bothered over him, because why not? He’s hot and the sex was crap with Benny boy. Tank talks to her and finds out that she thinks that Werewolves is the name of their motorcycle club, not that she knows they are shifters. But, just when his job could be over, he finds he can’t leave her. There’s just something about her that makes him want to stay. However, Foxfire isn’t down for that plan. She’s going to do what she can to get away. One of my favorite paragraphs in the book deals with one of her plans to get away.

“I chuckle at my own joke while Tank looks longingly at the door. Poor guy, stuck with me. I didn’t go to college, but I’ve mastered the art of annoying people.” Go ahead, tell me that’s not just a fucking awesome paragraph. Kudoes to whichever talented lady came up with that.

Anyway, this is where we are going to go our separate ways. You can read this one as a stand-alone, if you would like. You will be more enjoyment of it if you read the whole series in order though, because you will understand the background better. Each story is its own complete story, but there is an overarching story arc that each story builds on. The sex is hot, the chemistry between the two is even hotter. And I love Sunny. So, go check this one out.

OK, there is one twist that I thought wouldn’t it be interesting if…, and then it turned out that yes, it was, and it really was interesting. Sorry, that’s all the more hint you are getting as to this particular spoiler, because I don’t want to ruin it. You will be happier if you go read it yourelf and see if you can figure it out.

Sunny is a hoot and a half, and just totally what you think of when you think hippy. And her plain talk about Tank and Foxfire’s sex life is just to die for. I wouldn’t really want to do yoga with her though.

While they get their HEA, there are some things that are really upsetting and made me a little mad and a little sad. However, Tank pulled his head out of his arse, so it’s OK and it worked out, over all. So, yay.

Lilly Holden-The SEAL’s Secret Baby

This is the second week that we have a Lilly Holden story showing up on my humble blog. We have two more weeks of them, so I hope you are enjoying them as much as I am. Yeah, you may think that they aren’t my normal fare, and they aren’t, but they are nice candy for my brain, which I often need. Quick reads, guaranteed HEA, and main characters that end up head over heels in love? And oh yeah, sex scenes that steam up the page? Is there anything better when you need something to relax your brain?

So, this is going to be a short blog, since The SEAL’s Secret Baby is pretty short. I read it in under an hour, I think. I was actually a smidgeon disappointed in how short it was. I would have loved to see more Deke and Sophie.

Two and a half years ago, Deke retired from the SEALs and buried his father, all in the same week. The night of the funeral, his long-time love and dream girl, Sophie, brings him a lasagna. They end up having one glorious night of passion. They both knew it was going to be only one night because Deke was headed out to Denver to work with his SEAL team in private security.

Fast forward 2.5 years and Deke has to go back to his hometown to sell his father’s house. He needs to go there and do some work to fix the house. The one consolation he has is that Sophie’s parents, who lived across the street, had sold their house and moved, meaning he will be able to avoid Sophie since no one in the family has talked to him since that night. What Deke doesn’t know is that Sophie is the one who bought the house, and that’s not the only surprise that Sophie is hiding.

OK, our paths are diverging in the woods here. Like I said, I enjoyed the story, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a nice, straight-forward, guaranteed HEA. I am looking forward to the next 2, since they deal with the rest of the SEAL team. Actually, I’m not even going to have a spoiler section. I do love Deke and his protectiveness over what’s his. I’m still going to post a picture of a cute baby.

Lilly Holden-Bad Boy SEAL

With all the very dark and twisted stuff I’ve been reading lately, I decided that it would be nice to intersperse some lighter, sweeter, more straight-forward romance. It’s nice to mix it up a bit. That way I don’t get burnt out on any one thing. So, to that end, I ended up signing up for 4 books from Lilly Holden, with a nice group of a former SEAL team as the good guys. The first one is Bad Boy SEAL.

Charlie left Chicago to move to a small town in Texas after her mother died. She had a cousin there, so it made sense to do it. Charlie doesn’t see her cousin much since he spends a lot of time in his office doing his computer kind of stuff. She is working as a waitress at a diner, trying to figure out to do with the rest of her life. One day, 4 big guys come into her restaurant for lunch.

Jake is a former SEAL. He now does contract work for a friend. He and his team are in BFE Texas on a job. Their mark has a cousin named Charlie who they’ve decided to use. The problem? Their intel doesn’t say that Charlie is short for Charlotte. When Jake sees her, he knows that she is meant to be his.

This is a short story. It only took me around an hour or so to read it. It’s an instalove story, with a virgin, and an HEA. Those aren’t my normal fare, but like I said, I wanted to mix it up a bit. There’s nice fun, hot, and kinky sex. It has a bit of action tossed into the mix too, which is always nice. And since there is a pretty picture here, you know this is where you get to make your choice.

Not a big picture, but hey, he’s pretty, so we can live with it, right? That’s OK, I don’t have a lot of anything else to say, just because anything else I say about this is going to end up being a spoiler.

There are reasons why Jake and his team are targeting Charlie’s cousin and we’ll learn more about them. I think that if Jake had shared a little more with Charlie, maybe some of the conflict wouldn’t have happened, but I can get why he didn’t.
