Alta Hensley & Zoe Blake-Red & the Wolves

Alta and Zoe have released Red and the Wolves, the second book of their 3 RH dark romance fairy tales. These are not fairy tales to read to your children. In fact, you might not even want to read them around your children. The steam rising off your Kindle might cause them some concern.

So, are you can probably guess, Red is the reimaging of Little Red Riding Hood. Only when the Big Bad Wolf wants to eat Red, he’s not thinking about dinner. And it’s more like Big Bad Wolves, 5 of them, and they all have designs on Red.

The village where Red is born and grows up is surrounded by a tall wall and thick forest. In that forest, there are 5 magical wolves. Back in the day, 500 years ago, the village elders used magic to create the wolves from some of the villagers. They were needed so that they could fight the darkness that threatened everyone. Every so often, the Blood Moon rises, and when the Blood Moon rises, the village sacrifices a villager to the wolves.

Red’s grandmother is a village elder. Too bad it had never been any kind of bonus for her. Her grandmother, the evil old hag, hated Red’s father and since her mother died at birth, it fell on the hag to raise Red. She made sure that not only did Red know how worthless to everyone she is, she also made sure that the village made her an outcast. It doesn’t help that Red stands out because of her very red hair either.

When the Blood Moon rises, the elders say that it’s time for a sacrifice. All the other sacrifices have been chosen from the oldest unmarried males in each household. This time, the hag manages to push through a change, it’s the oldest unmarried person from each household. In this case, Red would be in the group and is the only woman there. And we can guess what’s going to happen, otherwise, this would’ve been a really short book.

Red gets turned out of the village and is left to the tender mercies of the wolves, named Canis, Beo, Grimm, Rood, and Helm. Or, are they men?

OK, it’s time. I love, love, love the names of the guys. I picked up some of the references with the names, but I don’t know if all of them have some kind of significance. I love the books that do that. I love the books that don’t. I love the books. I just think it adds in an extra layer of fun to have various names of characters referring back to other things. Red is a very strong character and is willing to stand up for what she believes in, in my opinion. She doesn’t always listen well, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? The guys are very strict and very intense. There is some heavy dubcon going on here, IMO, at least at first. The book is swelteringly hot, with all the good stuff going on. Each of the guys has a distinct personality, and it’s interesting to get to know them. We also get a peek at Snow White and her guys.

97a92ad65cd8fa19a9700a6757f10f7a

I love that Red wants to let the people of her village know the truth. The guys deserve to have the truth known. After all, theirs was the true sacrifice.

I wonder if they were to have babies, would they be able to shift back and forth from human to wolf? That would be such an awesome start to a werewolf legend.

OK, go check this one out. Happy reading!

Alta Hensley-Devils & Rye

Alta has some more top shelf booze for us to drink today. Today, we get to have Devils & Rye. This is the 4th book in the series and is just as good as the others. Harley Crow is still my favorite, because well, he’s awesome, but that doesn’t that this isn’t a great story. I enjoyed it a lot.

Alec is one of the founding and managing members of Spiked Roses, the premier gentlemen’s club of NOLA. He’s also a man who has run away from his past. There was a sneaky, nasty, gross secret society called the Iron Colt Brotherhood, that he walked away from because of what they did and what they stood for.

Alec’s best friend Rhett has a beautiful daughter named Makayla who is just shy of 21. After spending all her life locked up under her father’s thumb, he finally let her go to NOLA so that she could work at Spiked Roses. That would let Alec watch out for her. On Makayla’s very first day of work and what she thinks might be her new, normal life, Alec gets a letter from her father, begging him to take her away and hide her at their place, a house on the lake. She’s in danger, and Alec would know why. Rhett also sent a letter for him to give to Makayla so that she would know that she should do what Alec tells her to do. Of course, when Alec goes to give the letter to Makayla, she’s naked to the waist, with Tennessee trying to zip her into a red lace dress. That stops Alec in his tracks and makes him realize that little Makayla isn’t so little anymore.

OK, it’s that time. I’m going to go on and continue to drink this lovely glass of rye, you can choose which way you want to go. There are some very dark things that happen in this book. Not the darkest things I’ve ever read, but they are moving towards that way. I really do like the book, and I’m looking forward to more of the series.

architecture-building-city-128304

I have two words. Dildo. Bench. You’ll see.

I did kind of want to smack the crap out of Makayla because she went and made a supremely stupid choice right after Alec told her what was going on. I mean, who does that? I get loving your father, but she knew what was going to happen to her. As a parent, I would much prefer to see myself get hurt than to have my child in a position where something bad was definitely going to happen to them.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this. Go check out this one and all of Alta’s work. Happy reading!

Alta Hensley & Zoe Blake-Snow and the Seven Huntsmen

Alta and Zoe both write books that I enjoy reading. I’ve reviewed several of them here, and reviewed others on my GR and Zon page. The stories that they write on their own are dark, sexy, and hot. This one? This one raises the bar. Putting Alta and Zoe together means that we ended up with something hot, filthy, obscene, dark, and so sizzling hot, my Kindle burnt my fingers while I was reading it. I loved every single dirty word of it.

As you can guess, Snow and the Seven Huntsmen is a new take on Snow White. Only, there are no dwarves here. Instead, our dear Snow has 7 large and dominant alpha huntsmen that she has to deal with. Seven very, very large huntsmen with appropriately large spears. I mean, they can’t fight off the bad guys if their spears aren’t large enough, right?

So, the evil queen has locked Snow away in the dungeon after the death of her father. Snow has had no human contact for years and years. Her food gets shoved in through the door so she sees no one and no one sees her. No one talks to her, nothing. So when she hears voices one day, she knows that they are coming to kill her. She decides that she will escape out her window because there is nowhere else that she can go. However, that doesn’t stop these huge men from grabbing her and taking her away with them.

Snow is convinced that they are going to kill her, especially when they talk about having to have the heart in a box to send to the queen. Turns out that they are going to take the heart of a boar and put it in the box and tell the queen that it’s Snow’s heart. They have other plans for Snow, and they involve her very much alive and very much naked. When she tries to run away, the huntsmen find her and tell her that there’s no way she can escape from them, after all, they are huntsmen.

The huntsmen, Dagr, Odin, Jerrik, Magni, Tore, Steen, and Freyr, want to keep Snow and do terrible, horrible, sexy, hot, and perverse things to her, including punishing her. That both terrifies and arouses her. And holy fuck, there are some really, really sexy punishments going on in here. Let me just say that antlers have taken on a whole new meaning for me, and I’m wondering if I can get an antler chandelier for my house.

OK, it’s that time. It may sound like the guys are only hard on Snow, and they do use her hard, but they also take good care of her. They are very caring, in their own ways. They are nice guys, and I really like them from the start. Sometimes I have to warn up to the Alpha types, since they are all oh, I know better than you, and yeah, these guys were like that, but it didn’t get on my last nerve the way it sometimes does. I think it was because of their personalities. They are very much barely civilized and that alpha ‘tude fits. If you don’t like dark and really sexy, and a large amount of dick being swung around, then avoid this one. Me? I’m wondering how soon I can go back and read it.

apple-fruit-red-vitamins-37920

These guys will do just about anything for Snow. I like that they take care of her, because yeah, it sounds like they are only rough, gruff men, but they truly value her and have her best interests at heart. They want to make sure that she is safe and sound. They even teach her how to use weapons.

I really like how Snow has a relationship with each of the guys and how each of them is so different, and they all meet some need in Snow, not necessarily sexual, but emotional. Just having someone who wants to be with her has to be a change from spending so many years locked away from all human contact.

Anyway, that’s it for today. Go over to the almighty Zon and check it out. Happy reading!

Black Light Roulette Redux

The party in this book is the kind of Valentine’s Day party I’d like to attend. Participating would be even better. But since I don’t have $2.5K/month and Black Light doesn’t exist in my world, I’ll just have to make do with the sexy books that come out of the club.

Livia Grant originally gave us Jax, Chase, and Emma who started and own Black Light. It’s the most exclusive, most private, and hottest sex club in Washington, D.C. People come from all over to come play in the dungeon. Last year, for Valentine’s Day, Black Light put on a Roulette event which matched random Doms and subs and random kinks. It went so well last year, that they decided to put on another event this year.

This year, they decided to open it up to more participants and open it up to M/m, F/f, and F/m couples, so everyone can play. We don’t see any of their stories, which I would’ve liked to, especially the F/m couple and Sybian orgasm torture. That would’ve been a fun show to watch.

Black Light: Roulette Redux is made up of 9 kinky authors who have gotten together to write 9 hot, sexy stories that are brought to you by the letters BDSM, the number 69, and the color pink.

We get to see a little bit of everything from our players and get to enjoy all the dark and delicious things that happen. The book starts and ends with Jax, Chase, and Emma, written by Livia Grant and Jennifer Bene. That ties each of the stories together and makes it a cohesive whole, and turns 9 stories that all take place in one 3 hour time slot into one book. One of the things that I like about these stories is that the introduction gets all the couples set up and certain events happen, and in the stories, you still see those certain events happening, but you get them from the POV of the featured couple. It really emphasizes that all these stories are happening simultaneously.

Jennifer Bene and Livia Grant-Introduction and Conclusion

We get a nice set of bookends with the intro and conclusion. The intro sets us up for the upcoming event and the conclusion wraps everything up quite nicely. Make sure that you read everything before you read the end because you there are spoilery spoilers in it and you don’t want that. Trust me on this.

Jennifer Bene-Unrestrained 5*

You know how I feel about Jennifer Bene and her stories, right? Well, I got to read this one in beta and told her how much I loved it. It was hot then, and it’s even hotter now.

Bianca is really excited about this year’s Roulette event. She wasn’t around for the previous event but has heard that it was fantastic. She’s looking for the right Dom, one who can give her what she needed, and one who can control her. Meanwhile, Silas is looking for the perfect and elusive sub. He likes to deal out pain and he wants someone who can handle the pain that he wants to give them. He’s not expecting anyone who can stand up to what he likes to do, but he’ll be happy if he can get a good scene. When they get together, will they realize what they have together?

This is a filthy story that will leave you aching on Bianca’s behalf. It was very hot and very sexy. I’d love to see more of Bianca and Silas, because I think they have so much more to show us.

Livia Grant-Brat 4.5*

Gabriella is used to getting her own way. She’s a socialite who is always in the public view and has gotten into trouble more than once. When she needs more money than she gets from her allowance, she just goes to see her “uncle”, who is the trustee of her trust fund and wheedles more money out of him. The only problem is that he’s now retired and left it to his son, Connor. Connor has resented Gabriella for years. His father was always running out to clean up Ella’s messes, and he’s not about to fall for her tricks. While she’s waiting to prove to Connor that she’s an adult, she sees an invite to a party that she decides she’s going to take and go to.

Livia is so devious with this story. I love the scenes she gives Connor and Ella, and how well they fit into the existing dynamic that the two of them already have. I thought that it worked really, really well.

Renee Rose-Forced 5*

Mariana has decided that she’s going to go visit her little sister in D.C. for V-Day. When her little sister tells her that they won’t be able to sit around and watch romcoms because she’s going to a sex club and is hoping for a good spanking. Mariana isn’t about to let her little sister go to a sex club without her, so she signs up for Redux too. Victor is standing outside waiting to go into the club when he sees a very confident woman saunter up to the entrance. He talks to her for a minute and is fascinated by her. When he rolls her name in the event, he’s quite delighted. Mari doesn’t know what she’s in for when she leaves the stage with Victor.

I loved reading Renee’s story and the three-hour tour that Mari takes in the world of BDSM. Victor was really careful with her and really did pay attention to what she needed and had no problem doing what was necessary.

Sue Lyndon-Doctored 4.25*

Natalie discovered 5 years ago what it feels like when all your secrets are poured out to the public. When kinky pix of her show up and ruin her chances of a beauty queen title and possibly mess up her father’s political career, she decides that she’s going to hide. The only thing that made any of that bearable was Hunter Knox. He was running against her father and he was nice to her and told her that he wouldn’t use her against her father. She’s had a crush on him ever since. When she shows up at Black Light for Roulette Redux and finds out that he’s there and rolls her name, she can’t quite believe it.

I’m sure that you can guess what kind of kink they get on at least one roll. If you’ve never thought about medical play, Sue may change your mind with this. And the pump that gets pulled out? Yes, please. I need one.

Maren Smith-Shameless 5*

In the real world, there are a lot of “doms” who take advantage of subs who just want to find their place in the world. In Maren Smith’s world, there’s one too. Hadlee had the bad luck to run across one and spent months in a very bad, very abusive D/s relationship with him. When things went sideways, she called Gareth, a DM at Black Light. He came and got her and has watched out for her since. She decides to go to the Roulette event to try to get back the joy of submission. When Noah rolls her name, he decides to ask Gareth to help him with the scenes.

There is a lot in this story. There are several layers going on, which is really impressive on Maren’s part since it can be hard to pack all that stuff into a short story. She’s a tease though, and when you read it, you’ll see why she’s a tease.

Alta Hensley-Edge 4*

Once upon a time, Melinda spent a lot of time at Black Light. She ran a successful business, and was pretty happy. Then she ran away from it all and got married. Now, less than a year later, she’s divorced and decided she’s going to go back to Black Light. Dean was her Dom and when he sees that she’s playing, he arranges it so that they are partnered up. He wants answers and he’s determined to get them.

OMG, while the sex is hot here, the real part of the story is the exploration of submission and trust. That part is breathtaking and makes the entire story. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the sex, but I loved the rest of it.

Measha Stone-Confessions 4*

Dani’s beloved brother was killed in action. His friend Grayson promised to watch out for Dani. The problem is that Dani doesn’t always want Gray to watch out for her or tell her what to do, especially when he tells her to stop going to sex clubs. So, she decides to sign up for Black Light’s V-Day event. She knows that’s where Gray plays, so surely he can’t disapprove of it. Except he does when it comes to her. Gray wants Dani to go home, but she refuses. When he draws her name. he’s prepared to make sure she listens to him.

I got a real zap out of this story. Measha is very creative when it comes to her Doms and their devious plans for their subs. She’s written some of my favorite D/s stories, and she brought that to Dani and Gray.

Maggie Ryan-Surrender 4.5*

Marty is a returning player. We met her last year and we discovered that she likes to top from the bottom. She hasn’t gotten over that habit. She knows how she wants a scene to go and heaven help the Dom who doesn’t listen to her. Owen, Black Light’s rope master, has been telling her that that’s not how you treat a Dom. This night is the night when he decides that enough is enough and decides to put his money where his mouth is.

I love the scenes they do, and I love that we get to see a master shibarist at work. Too bad we don’t have pictures of his work, because that would be totally awesome. Marty takes some hard lessons, but Owen makes it worth it for her.

Jane Henry-Taken 4.5*

Della is a type A person. She’s very controlled, very regimented, and makes sure that everything is done just so. She’s also a sex columnist and has decided to try the Black Light Roulette Redux event this year. When she gets there, she sees a person she never expected. Brayden, one of the Doms, looks over the subs and recognizes Della. She’s his ex-wife. He doesn’t know whether to hope he gets her or to hope that someone else gets her. There is a lot of history between the two of them and a lot that has to be worked through.

I have a deep and abiding love of second chance stories since I was divorced and then years later remarried my ex. It’s possible to be the right person at the wrong time. This is a great second chance story, and the epilogue really made it.

These are great stories, and a good way to get ready for Valentine’s Day, no matter how you are spending it or who you are spending it with. You’re going to be able to read it any time though, and I’m planning on reading it back to back with the first anthology, and really hope that there is another one next year.

Alta Hensley-Scoundrels & Scotch

If I were a drinking woman, which I can’t be, I would be a Scotch kind of woman. The few times I’ve tried Scotch, I’ve liked it, so there it is. I also am a huge fan of scoundrels. I mean, my first crush was Han Solo, you can’t get much more of a scoundrel than him. Harrison Ford, yummmmm. Hmmm, maybe my head version of Victor Drayton will now be Harrison Ford in a super sharp suit. Anyway, what does my little digression have to do with anything? Well, that’s because Victor Drayton, the hero of Scoundrels & Scotch is always sharp looking in his expensive suits.

S&S is the third book in Alta’s Top Shelf series. It’s also the one I’ve been looking forward to the most. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the other two books, and Harley has a special place in my heart, but Victor Drayton and Drayton’s Dolls is something I’ve been looking forward to reading since they were first mentioned.

So, Victor is a performance artist. He uses a very particular type of material to create his art and his pieces tend to be very sexual and taboo in nature. His material is his Dolls. These are beautiful young women who he has trained, dressed up as dolls, and displays as his art. He has taken them all over the world and shown them in all kinds of ways. He’s also a founding member of Spiked Roses, New Orleans’ premier kink club. Together with the rest of the founding partners, he has agrred to strict rules for the staff, so that they don’t have problems like they had before. That includes a zero tolerance policy for drugs. Anyone who tests positive for drugs is immediately fired. No ifs, ands, or buts, they are out on their butts.

Ivy is one of the waitresses at Spiked Roses. She works hard, does as many Tastings as she can, and loves her job. She also got busted doing drugs. She says that she’s not a junky, but she does have a good reason for doing them, on occasion. The problem is, that even if she only does them every now and again, she tested dirty for drugs and that means that she is going to be fired. However, Victor is willing to offer Ivy a job.

Victor wants Ivy to be one of his Dolls. He knows that she will be a beautiful Doll and covets her for his collection. More than that, he also wants to possess her in other ways. As one of his Dolls, he will be able to have her whenever he wants, as well as spank her, or use one of his other, more creative punishments. She will be perfect for his collection and for his art.

Ivy takes him up on his offer and goes off to be one of the famous Drayton’s Dolls. She learns what being a Doll is all about and puts a lot of work into becoming a Doll and being a credit to Victor’s artistic views.

Time for you to choose, dear reader, which path you shall take. We know which one I’m going to take, in fact, I’m off to blaze it for you. Aren’t I such a nice, nice person? S&S is, thus far, the darkest of the series, less mindfucky than V&V was, but darker overall. The kink is very kinky and damn hot. The story did make me sad on occasion, when you read it, you will see where I got sad, and I’ll be you get sad there too. Honestly, go read this story, especially if you love to read kinky kink that is put into a good story. Each of these books can be read as a stand-alone, but you will enjoy them more if you read the entire series. They aren’t in any kind of larger story arc, but they do interconnect, so you will get the world a little better if you have read the other books.

lolita doll

Pretty, pretty dollie, right? When I was out looking for pictures for this post, I ran across all kinds of doll pix. You have to be really careful when you put in search terms looking for pix like this. Some of the pix I found were… horrifying. But, some of them were like this, beautiful and perfect. I now have a doll folder on my computer in my smutty pictures files.

Anyway, Victor’s punishments are really interesting. I love the whole doll stand. That was just wow. That was just such a wicked, wicked idea.

I liked seeing Harley, like I said, he has a special place in my heart. I hated seeing him for the reason that we did, because that was terrible, and that’s why I thought that the story was darker overall than even Harley’s book.

I was sad for Victor for what happened, although, he was a tad bit short-sighted, or maybe just obsessively focused on what he was doing with his art. I hope his further artistic endeavors are as interesting. I’d love to get a glimpse into what he and Ivy are doing in later books.

So, this is all I have to say about this one. Later tonight, you’ll get the first half of my review of Alien Alphas, and tomorrow will be the other half, plus a brand new to me author. Keep your eyes peeled for that. Meanwhile, happy reading!

Alta Hensley-Villains and Vodka

Alta Hensley has come out with another book in her series about Spiked Roses and it’s super duper rich owners. Villains and Vodka is all about Harley and Marlowe

So, each of the founding members has their own thing, Harley is the assassin, and he makes sure that the club stays safe because he has a scary rep. Fuck with the club and you’re fuckin with Harley. Fuck with Harley and you won’t be a worry anymore. He keeps to himself, doesn’t have anything to do with any of the lovely ladies who work at the club or go to the Tastings. He just comes to the club each night and drinks his ice-cold vodka and watches the people around him.

While Harley is watching the people, Marlowe is watching him. She has a major league lust on for him. She knows that she should probably avoid him, but she has a thing for the bad boys, and Harley is the baddest boy on two legs. Marlowe keeps trying to work at the tables that Harley frequents, but she is always stopped. But, when she finds out that Harley is coming to an upcoming Tasting, she makes sure to sign up for it and she’s going to catch his attention and make sure that the two of them end up signing a contract together.

The theme of the Tasting is Who’s Afraid of the Dark? That means that there are going to be a lot of things dark, scary, kinky, and exciting going on. Marlowe is positive that she’s not afraid of Harley’s darkness and is willing to walk that line with him.

OK, time to split up, at least temporarily. This is a dark and lovely one. There is really interesting kink and a good romance on top of that. Alta never stints on anything in her books, and she sure didn’t here. Harley may be one of my favorite bad boys ever, and I really love this book. I may want to smack Harley, but that doesn’t make him any less my favorite.

raven-bird-birds-bryce-canyon-87078

OMG, OMG, OMG. When I say dark, I mean this leads right into the dark, but in the best way. I’m not going to talk too much about what makes the dark dark, because… Well, you just have to read it for yourself and see why.

Marlowe has her own problems and her own secrets which she’s not willing to share. She is a former cutter, so there’s that warning to anyone who may be triggered, but Alta handles it really well. She doesn’t glamorize it in any way. I like that she doesn’t shy away from it being in the book, but isn’t shaming Marlowe for what happened. That can be a really tricky thing to handle.

I loved this book. It’s going to fit right into my book rotation for those days when I need some darkness and mindfuckery. Yes, I have a collection to fit that mood. I can’t wait for the rest of the series, and I’m really excited about the upcoming story. The Dolls are going to be interesting, I think. Meanwhile, happy reading!

Alta Hensley-Bastards and Whiskey

We’re reviewing another great book written by the fabulous Alta Hensley! Alta writes some lovely dark books, and this is one of them. We were introduced into this world back in Royally Mine with Roman and Cherie’s story. This story has a different couple, Kenneth and Anita. This is a lush story with bad guys you love to hate and a good guy you are going to hate to love.

“But I saw it first hand. I saw that the men got what they wanted, or they took it. Not necessarily by force, but by the power of money, gifts, compliments, promises of a future of never having to work again. They hung a carrot of a new life only girls like me dream of, which meant that yes, they got whatever wanted. You were all nothing but a room full of bastards and whiskey.” Anita to Kenneth, talking about a Tasting Room party. This is one of my favorite quotes from the story. Anita gets all the best lines. Poor Kenneth.

Anita is a young woman from Muckaluk, NV. She’s lived her entire life there, in a trailer behind an abandoned gas station. Anita never thinks of Muckaluk as a town, she just calls it exit 222, mile marker 51. Her grandparents brought her up, and when they died, she got left with nothing but their trailer. She works as a caretaker for her friend, Virgie. Virgie has led a long and interesting life, including spending time in New Orleans.

Virgie doesn’t want to see Anita spend her entire life in the middle of nowhere. She wants Anita to follow her dreams. When Anita tells Virgie that she has no dreams, she immediately calls the daughter of the woman who owned the boarding house she stayed in when she was in NOLA, arranges for a room for Anita, and then takes her to the bank and Greyhound. All of a sudden, Anita is on her way to NOLA.

Kenneth is one of the founding members of Spiked Roses. It’s a gentlemen’s club where the word no is never heard. You have to be a multi-gazillionaire to join, but once you do, just about anything goes. Kenneth is a lawyer who helps to settle all the lawsuits that the club racks up. At the beginning of the book, he tells all the other founding members that the club is close to closing, and puts forward some… interesting ideas. One of those ideas is the contract.

The idea of a contract is that instead of the members randomly fucking staff and then getting sued by employees when the relationship breaks off, they will sign a contract, which basically states that the member owns the women. That contract will negotiate everything that will happen between the two people during their relationship. It will also arrange a financial settlement for the employees for after the relationship ends. Then his other big idea is the Tasting Room.

The Tasting Room is a party room. In there, they have special, themed parties. The women who work at Spiked Roses are able to go to parties and contract with members and get $$$$$$$. The contractual period and the remuneration depends on the theme of the party. The woman can make serious bank and never have to work again.

When Anita gets to NOLA, one of the other women in the house gets her a job at Spiked Roses. Kenneth interviews Anita for the job, and she impresses him. He watches her all the time but never does anything. Then, she volunteers for a Tasting Room party with the theme of Dark. And that’s where she gets into big fucking trouble.

OK, here’s where we part ways if you don’t want any risk of spoilers. I spent a good part of the time wanting to strangle Kenneth. He is a self-professed bastard, and damn, if the title doesn’t half fit. He does get better, and I did stop wanting to strangle him, and once he got out of his own way, he turned into a good man. Anita is a strong woman who stands by her friends. She and Kenneth are really oil and water for a lot of the book, and while they have sex early, it’s not the best time for them, and it’s pretty close to hate fucking at that point. Anyway, sex, spanking, language, more sex, and other fun perversions exist in this book. If you aren’t willing to take a sip of this whiskey, I can suggest some other stories for you.

cigar and whiskey

OMG, the guy who buys Anita’s contract at the party she goes to in the Tasting Room? He is loathsome. He’s a nasty piece of shit and the one that you are really going to love to hate. He pushes Anita to a point where she just can’t take any more, which makes her run away. Frankly, she went a wee bit further than I would’ve. I would’ve done more than just run away with $100K. She had a good reason to do the party and a good reason for the money.

Kenneth does at least realize that he feels something for Anita and chooses to be the one to track her down because any others doing it could end with her getting hurt. Even while he’s trying to remain a bastard to her, he still feels something, so he acts more like a bastard to Anita than he might otherwise do.

I really like Anita a lot more than I like Kenneth. Funny little note, my husband’s name is Kenneth, and when I get mad at him I tell him he’s an asshole. I may start calling him a bastard now. Love you, honey!

Anyway, I loved this book, and I’m waiting to see what Alta does with the rest of the series. I know that there are going to be more, so I’m looking forward to them.

Pretend my ARC disclaimer is here.

Royally Mine Review

I’ve talked about Royally Mine off and on for the past few weeks. It’s an awesome anthology by 22 great authors. How can I know this for sure? Well, for one thing, I’ve read ARCs from several of the authors. I haven’t read the entire book as of yet, since my TBR is currently stacked up sky high, but I can tell you about the ones that I’ve gotten to read. There are a whole bunch of stories in the book that I’m really looking forward to, including ones by Annabel Joseph, Jenika Snow, and Sue Lyndon. Without any further ado, let’s get to the reviews for the ones I’ve read.

Decadence by Jennifer Bene

Normally, my girl Jennifer writes some dark shit. I love her dark stuff. The darker the better. I’ve reviewed her Thalia series here, which starts out pretty dark. Decadence is not dark. It is, however, one of the most joyously filthy things I’ve read in a while.

What do two sex addicts say to each other? My current answer is “Thank you, come again.” Finn and Aubrey are those sex addicts. The story starts out with Aubrey talking to her therapist and Finn being forced to go to a therapist. However, he sees Aubrey and ditches his therapist to follow her to a bar, where they have a close encounter of the 69th kind in the bathroom. Neither one of them knows the other is a sex addict, which leads to some great banter between the two of them.

These two characters are totally fun. Finn swears that Aubrey is perfect just the way that she is, and sets out to show her that she is. The bacchanal scene? Yeah. It’s hot. Like, Death Valley hot.

This story is great, and the happily-ever-after is fantastic. It works well for Finn and Aubrey, even if it’s not a typical HEA. I liked it. I really enjoyed this story, can you tell?

thank you come again

Consumed by Addison Cain

Now Addison, she writes dark too. And this one is dark. She takes us back to an Omegaverse. This is NOT the Omegaverse from Alpha’s Claim, but a brand new world. It still follows the same rules though.

Morgaine is an Omega who has no clue who or what she is. All she knows is that when the Alphas come to her village, she gets sick and she hides. That works well until one day when it doesn’t and the Alphas take her away. She still has no clue what an Omega really is, and the Alphas who originally take her do nothing to help her, they just traumatize her. They keep telling her how they love and protect Omegas, but if you ask me, there is no love and protection there, just cruelty. Simin comes to her rescue. He’s a former enemy of her people, and he looks like a barbarian. But, he saves her.

Yeah, I know Simin isn’t Conan, but you get the whole idea.

I had never read any Omegaverse stories before I read Addison’s stories for the first time. I really enjoy the dynamic. Addison left this one on a bit of a cliffhanger (I think she’s a closet sadist), but the story is to be continued. She’ll be picking it up and publishing the rest of the story. I can’t wait.

Royalty, American Style by Livia Grant

Livia has an interesting take on royalty. Instead of going with some blue blood, she goes with baseball royalty. Colton King (I see what you did there) is at the top of his game when it comes go baseball. He’s also a bad, bad boy. He’s a lover, and he loves a whole lot of women. Unfortunately for him, he got conned into doing a Bachelor style reality show. He’s going to be in a house with 6 beautiful women who are all competing to be his special someone. Enter Harper Gardener, unemployed chef-extraordinaire, who got the temporary job of cooking for the show.

With just one taste of Harper’s cooking and one glimpse of her, Colton is attracted to her. Harper, on the other hand, is just out of a bad relationship and her life plan doesn’t include falling in love with Colton King. When that’s what happens, everything turns upside down.

I loved this story. Colton really goes out of his way to do everything he can to protect Harper. It’s really sweet. Their HEA is well deserved.

Bad Boys and Bourbon by Alta Hensley

When they were children, Cheri and Roman were promised to each other. They were each other’s first loves, first kiss, and first time. Then Cheri, the daughter of a count and countess, decided that she couldn’t handle all the circus that royal life would entail, so she left Roman, a prince and ran away. Years later, she gets dragged to Monaco where she is presented to Roman so that they can get married.

When they get back together, sparks fly and the action turns very, very steamy. Alta writes steamy really well, and this story is definitely that.

This is the start of a new series by Alta. The new books are all going to be themed around alcohol. The bad boys are also going to be part of an exclusive club called Spiked Roses. As this series is an Alta Hensley series, expect to see spanking and sex. And some more spanking. And some more sex.

Mafia Princess by Natasha Knight

Gregorio Santa Maria is the head of his Family, along with his brother. When the Antonino Family call him up because Allegra has run away from Florida, he has to go find her. He doesn’t want to do babysitting duty, but since the Families are associated, then he has to do it. So he and Enzo, one of his men, go and find Allegra at a bar.

When he takes her to his house, she does everything she can to escape. Allegra makes it very clear that she doesn’t want to go back to her half-brother. He’s not a very nice guy, and their father is in a coma, so her half-brother is the one in charge. Of course, since this story is included in a romance anthology, you can guess what happens, they get their HEA.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this particular story is that it is entirely written from Gregorio’s point of view. That’s not something you normally find in a romance story. You may get a dual point of view that goes back and forth between the Hero and Heroine, or one entirely from her POV, but very, very rarely one that is solely from his point of view. It was a nice twist to the traditional romance story, so great job Natasha!

Her Royal Master by Renee Rose

Renee Rose writes great spanking stories that just happen to have a great love story that goes with them. Or may those are great love stories that have great spanking stories that go with them. Whichever way you choose to look at it, Her Royal Master fits right into her wheelhouse.

Chelsea is a journalist who happens to be rooming with an Italian model. On the day of the model’s big job, she gets sick and talks Chelsea into going to the job for her. The job? To be a sub on Prince Kaspar’s yacht for a few days. Now, Chelsea doesn’t know that until she gets there, and then it’s too late to do anything about it. When one of the prince’s friends does something that freaks her out, Darius, Kaspar’s black sheep cousin comes to her rescue and saves her from the wanna-be Doms.

After spending a hot weekend together, Chelsea runs off the yacht, and straight to Los Angeles, and promptly becomes miserable.

I really enjoy reading Renee’s books. She twists sweet and spice together really well and brings it all home really well. She also creates wonderful worlds and I can easily see them. If you read The Russian in Heroes Undercover, then you may recognize the DJ from this story.

Royally Fucked by Lee Savino

With a title like this, you pretty much know what you are going to get, from the get go. Lots of fucking and lots of royalty. Theo, the son of a Greek hotelier and a disinherited Swedish princess, is the epitome of bad boy. He has had several sex tapes show up and the public is familiar with the dimensions of his cock, thanks to interviews with former sex partners. He’s also got the reputation of a sex god. His grandmother, the Queen of Sweden, has all of a sudden decided that she wants to meet him for the first time ever, and the board of his father’s hotel business wants to vote him off the board. In walks Vesper.

Vesper is a fixer. If you have a PR problem, you call Vesper. She can make it go away and rehabilitate your image. When she starts her job, she lays out a long-term plan, only to find out that she has one week to update Theo’s image and make him look good.

Of course, when you put a sex god in a room with an attractive woman and it’s a Lee Savino story, sparks are going to fly, and you are going to get lots of sex and an HEA. Of course, it’s never that easy, is it?

jaguarxj220-05

This was a nice story. One reason that I liked it was because Vesper was a strong woman who took no shit from anyone. She managed to stand up to Theo, even when he tried really hard to fire her, and to get him to consider doing what she told him. But, she didn’t run him over and roll him down either. That’s a very fine line to walk, but Lee made it work well. By the way, when you try to review something named Royally Fucked on Amazon, you have to write it as Royally F***ed, or you don’t get your review approved.

Well, that’s what I’ve got. I received ARCs of all these stories, and you have now received my honest reviews, you lucky people.

Coming up this week, the spoiler post for Kate Daniels 1-3, a review of a new-to-me author, and a review of B. B. Blaque’s Beautiful Insanity: Twisted, and let me tell you what, it lives up to its name. Stay tuned, and happy reading!

33 Free Books

Everyone loves free books! Thirty-three authors have gotten together to offer up 33 free books!  The offer is good through the 12th, so check it out, especially if you like smexi romances.

The books include Born to Be Bound, the first book in Addison Cain’s Alpha’s Claim series, The Invitation by Jennifer Bene, who I love and it’s a book I enjoy, and Wicked Ways by Cari Silverwood. Cari is a new author to me, but I really enjoy her. She just put out a steampunk, dark erotica, science fiction story called Acquired Possession. (Check out my review!)

There are also other authors I enjoy, Skye Warren, Maren Smith, Maggie Ryan, Alta Hensley, Lee Savino, and Meredith O’Reilly. Honestly, I can personally recommend about 1/2 of the authors and their books, either because I have read them or have read other books by the various authors.

If you like your romance with a dash of spice (or maybe a little more than a dash), check out the giveaway.
