Chiah Wilder-Wheelie’s Challenge

Chiah Wilder is a new author to me. One of the things I’ve loved about being a being a blogger is the fact that I get the chance to see a lot of new authors come across my Kindle. It’s an honor and a privilege for me to be able to read their books and for me to share them with you. So today I’m sharing Wheelie’s Challenge from Chiah with you. And can I just say how awesome the name Chiah is?

So, this is a MC book. I think bikers are pretty much the ultimate bad boys. They live by no one’s rules but their own and they have no problems with showing that and telling everyone that. It’s not easy for a biker to hide who he is, like it can be for the mafia guys or other alpha types. I think they are just more in your face that other bad boys are, which can make MC books much more interesting to read. One of the big rules that MCs have is you don’t betray a brother. Period. If you do, then you can end up in trouble. But…

So, today’s book. We start out with a woman being killed by her abusice husband. This may not seem like it’s a big deal, but it really is. There are a lot of things that are about to happen becaue of it. Ten years later, we get to see Sophia and Wheelie. Wheelis is a member of the Insurgents MC. Sophia is not his ol’ lady, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting her or her from wanting him. That would normally wouldn’t be a huge problem, but the fact that her husband Tigger is one of his brothers makes it a problem. You just don’t fuck a brother’s lady.

Sophia is stuck in a terrible marriage. Tigger is an abusive fuck. Sophia walks on eggshells around him so that he doesn’t get angry and doesn’t hurt her any more than he already has. Because the Prez and the VP know what’s going on, they have made it mandatory that she shows up at certain events. They think that Tigger is getting it under control, and you just don’t interfer in a brother’s relationship unless there’s a really good reason.

Meanwhile, in another part of the country, Russ Elmore is getting out of prison. He was put there nearly 10 years ago for killing his wife, Kendra who just happens to be Wheelie’s sister. Wheelie has pledged to kill him, but Russ is going to do what he can to make sure that he gets there first.

There’s a whole lot that happens in this book. There’s revenge, love, hate, violence, and justice. Overall, I liked the book and the characters. I think that I disliked each of them at some point in time or another, but that’s the way it goes. It makes books more enjoyable when you have some kind of emotion because of the characters. I do wish certain people had done things sooner than they did, but they finally did. But, I do think that there were also some other motivations behind what they did, but since things finally happened, I won’t complain.

OMG, Russ is a nasty piece of work. Tigger didn’t die soon enough or hard enough.

I got mad at Wheelie when things were discovered, but I can understand why he needed a minute to figure out stuff, because dayum, that was a heavy load to handle. I wish that Sofia hadn’t trusted Russ though because it made it easy for her to doubt herself.

Jordan Marie-Devil

Jordan Marie is a new to me author. We all know how much I love finding a new author. This book is the first book in a new series, and it’s a spinoff from another series that she wrote. I haven’t read the first series, obviously, since this is the first book of her’s that I’ve read, but I had no problem knowing what was going on. It worked out well.

So, on to Devil and our story. Devil is a member of the Savage MC, based in Tennesee. One day when he’s out stocking up on beer and condoms, lots and lots of condoms in the large size, he runs into a beautiful woman. He tries to invite her to a party where the beer and condoms will feature heavily, but she tells him that it’s not her kind of party. When he tries to convince her that it really is, he finds out that she’s a nun. Really not her kind of party. But he can’t get her out of his mind, which means that Devil is going to have to just go track her down.

Torrent may be a nun, currently, but she isn’t really nun material, in any way, shape, or form. You see, she’s just there to hide out. Her dad is the prez of another MC and he has problems . Among other things, he is pretty sure that he has a mole. He wants for Torrent to be safe so he sent her into hiding. Torrent thought that hiding would  be something like being hidden away on a private tropical island, but nope, it’s a nunnery. Seriously, who wants to go into hiding in a nunnery. When she notices Devil sitting outside the convent regularly and watching her, she likes the attention. Eventually, she can’t help herself and she starts talking to Devil. Not only that, she starts sneaking around with him.

OK, we know what time it is. There are a lot of terrible things that go on in this book. Torrent doesn’t have a really nice time of it for most of the book. I feel pretty sorry for her and for everything that she has to go through. Devil doesn’t have a party through it either. I mean, really. Neither one of them have an easy time. I enjoyed the story overall.

I did guess one of the twists, but I don’t think it was really obvious. It was more of a it would be interesting if… situation and less of a I know that this is what’s happening… But, I still felt vindicated for having figured it out. Yay me. Guessing it didn’t lessen my enjoyment any. Guessing a twist rarely does for a lot of reasons. One reason is I like to see how the author got from point A to point B. I don’t necessarily know how I got there, so seeing what the author does to get there makes me enjoy it more. Unless I guess the twist in the first two chapter, then I generally give up.

TL Smith-Sinister Love

Well, here we are, another day, another book. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my reading life and getting to read all kinds of fantastic books? I get to find a bunch of new authors and find books that I might not otherwise have seen. Today’s book is the sequel to Distorted Love, Sinister Love by TL Smith. And this one is as good as the first one, and kept my mind going crazy trying to figure out what was going on. So yay, that is great.

Warning, there will be spoilers for Distorted Love, so if you have read it first, go read it before reading this review. I can’t not spoil parts of DL, just because of the way it left off. You guys know that I try really hard not do that, but sometimes it’s pretty unavoidable. So, you’ve been warned.

Winter Travers-Maniac

Today’s book is the third book in the Winter Travers’ Fallen Lords MC series, Maniac. Before I get too far into the start of this review, I do want to point out that the book does cover a suicide attempt and memories of sexual assault. If you feel like this is a trigger to you, please be conscious of what you read.

These books really aren’t standalones. You really need to read the series in order so that you know what’s going on and so you can really keep up with what’s going on. You could read it on its own and still enjoy the book, but you would enjoy it so much more if you go in order.

So, Maniac. Wren is a friend of Cora’s. Cora has been staying with the Fallen Lords because her brother is one of their higher-ups. So our guys have been keeping her safe. When she finds out about her friend Wren needing help because of the Hell Captains MC, she gets the Fallen Lords to bring her to the clubhouse so she can be safe. The Hell Captains have cruelly used and ill-treated Wren. In fact, she’s a bare shadow of herself. She’s scared of all the Fallen Lords, and even of pretty much anyone but Cora. She seems like a shadow of a person, instead of anything else. Wren is soul-weary and just is ready to be done with it. Everything that happened to her is weighing heavily on her and she’s just ready to lay down her burden, so she tries to kill herself.

Manic has been appointed as her babysitter to make sure that she’s guarded and protected. He isn’t exactly a willing volunteer, but he’ll do what the Prez tells him to. When he breaks into the locked door in the bathroom of his room, he finds a nearly dead Wren.

Next thing we know, Maniac and Wren are living in a small, one-room cabin in the woods near a small town. There are two reasons for that. One is that it’s a place for letting Wren heal, both in body and in soul, and the other is that it’s a very safe place for her. The Fallen Lords are still trying hiding her from the Hell Captains and they are looking for Wren.

OK, I like reading MC books. I dunno why, but I’m not going to argue with it. I like the dynamic of the alpha men who are good men but not good guys but not necessarily bad guys either. The women in the books generally are pretty strong characters as well and can stand up against and to the men. Wren may seem like a departure from that, but she’s really not. She had horrible, terrible things happen to her and even the strongest person is going to break at some point. In fact, I’d go so far as to argue that Wren is a lot stronger than a lot of people because she made it out of a super-shitty situation. That’s my opinion on the matter, at least.

One of my favorite scenes in this whole book is when Maniac goes to get vengeance for Wren. I think it’s great how it happens, but all the one-liners and byplay that goes on between the Fallen Lords make that scene just kind of completely awesome.

Amo Jones-The Devil’s Match

This is the newest entry into Amo’s Devil’s Own motorcycle club series. And OMG, The Devil’s Match is incredibly insane. I’ve read all the other books and I thought for sure that Raze and Millie’s story was going to be the most intense story out of the series, but I’m pretty sure that Frost and Ella’s topped it. Because, damn. Really, damn. It was intense, it went to places I really didn’t expect it to go.

We first met Ella in Razing Grace. It turns out that she’s Raze’s sister and also has ties to the Devil’s Own MC. When Raze and the MC need to make a hostage trade, she goes to the MC while Millie goes back to Raze. That’s where Ella meets Frost.

We’ve seen Frost in all the other books. He’d be the first one to tell you that he’s an outright psychopath, diagnosed with psychopathy when he was just a child, then thrown away by his family. It doesn’t really bother him, because see above psychopath. He’s loyal to his brothers and will do anything he can to make sure that they are taken care of and that no one attacks the MC. He’s done some bloody and twisted things which he’s mostly liked doing.

Ella looks sweet and innocent. She looks like she is everyone’s little sister and like she’s never done anything wrong in her life. Except, you know, she’s Raze’s sister and he and Miles raised her, so you know that she can’t be quite as sweet and innocent as she looks.

So, here we go. You know the drill. This story. I mean, wow. It turned me around and turned my mind inside out. Definite mindfuckery going on in this story, and in the best way. It covers a few years, so you get a good look at their lives over a longer time than we sometimes see in books. We also get check-ins on our other couples, which is nice to see how they are all doing, mostly. There is a lot of sex, a lot of cussing, and a lot of sex, and a lot of violence. There are all kinds of secrets and machinations that show up. Then again, it couldn’t be part of this series if there weren’t. The reveals we get almost leave more questions than they did answers. You know that means I’m counting down the moments until the next story comes out.

I have to say that I was really surprised about Ella. My other glimpses of Ella really did make me think she was sweet and innocent, so my jaw hit the floor when we see the first discussions of Ella and her true self in the very beginning of the book. It was just a damn. Makes me wonder what else Amo is hiding up her sleeves. I mean, I know it’s going to be hot, because well, Amo Jones. I know it’s going to be dark because see Amo Jones. I just can’t wait to see it. Do you think I can get a time machine to take me to the point when it comes out?

Anyway, I’m looking forward to see what’s up with Miles and Willow, because you know the two of them are going to cause some serious shit that no one is going to want to miss. I’m dying for a further glimpse into Willow’s mind. That ought to be really good.

Amo Jones-Razing Grace

Contrary to what may be popular belief about my blog, I do review more than just ARCs on my humble little blog. What does that have to do with today’s blog? Today’s blog is about a pair of books that I actually bought. The first part of the duet I got as a Christmas freebie but as soon as I read it, I knew that I had, just absolutely had, to buy the next part. It was that good, just so good. So, Razing Grace 1&2 by Amo Jones here we go. (Everyone say thank you to Tyi for introducing me to Amo.)

Before I get into it, I didn’t realize that RG was part of a larger series, The Devil’s Own. I bought the first two of the books and I’ll be reading them this weekend.

Millie is a nun. She has sisters that she loves, and at the wedding of one of them, she gets betrayed and grabbed by some very, very bad guys, and dragged down to a dungeon. She is trapped in the dungeon of one of the bases of The Army, led Kurr. She hears screams of others, smells their deaths, and is left in a cold, dark cell. Except for when THEY visit her.

They are the 6. Six men who each wear a different mask and whose faces she has never seen. All she knows are the names they go by, Executioner, Joker, King, Royal, Soulless, and Angel. Our virginal Sister Millie, who has spent her life being the very good girl and who doesn’t even cuss or drink, is told that she will be visited each night by one of the 6 to be trained, and on the 7th night, they will all have her. They won’t do anything to take her virginity though, since she’s worth more when they sell her as a virgin. She doesn’t know that part of it yet. All she knows is that they are doing things to her that she doesn’t want in her head, but her body seems to want, and each day, it breaks her a little more and makes her a little crazier.

One day, Kurr and a priest come to visit her. The priest wants her. He killed someone in front of Millie, and he wants to handle Millie. He suggests that he’s going to buy her, have fun with her, and be done with her.

Meanwhile, 000, the Executioner, whose real name is Raze, has decided that Millie is HIS. He wants her and he hates what has to happen to her, but only because it’s other guys touching her and that he can’t publicly claim her. There are too many things that he can’t control and too many plans in motion that he can’t upset.

OK, I can only gloss over the second part because to do anything else will mean that I spoil everything. And really, you don’t want me to do that. I don’t want to do that. You may come after me with some horrible thing if I spoil it, and Amo Jones might call me horrible names. So, let’s suffice it to say that Millie still has horrible shit happen to her and she is still the crazy broken person that we came to know and love in the first part. Raze is still the crazy-ass mother fucker who we met in the first one and probably came to love. Well, I came to love, at least.

This series is seriously dark and has some very serious trigger warnings. Heed them. It has heavy doses of non/dub-con, and while I am all for some dark non/dub-con goodness, with heavy doses of kink and mindfuckery, there are people out there who don’t like that kind of thing, and for whom noncon sexual activities can be triggery.

I did really love these books. I seriously couldn’t put it down while I was reading it, and stayed up way too late at night to finish it. It is compelling, well-written, intriguing, and angering. The books left me satisfied and in a book hangover. You get both Millie’s and Raze’s POVs in the books, so you have some idea of what each is thinking, even though we don’t see a whole lot of Raze’s thoughts. He’s much more a doer than a thinker. I’m fine with that. He’s one of those main characters who wouldn’t work so well if we had a window into his inner angst. So, here’s where we part. I’m going to leave you a picture of the lovely Audrey Hepburn as a nun as a spoiler space. In my head, Millie had that Audrey Hepburn-ish kind of thing, so it works well, at least for me. If you have a different pic in your head, please don’t spoil mine for me.

Beautiful, right? Wasn’t she just graceful and elegant, and all of those things?

I love the title of the series. I am always thrilled with authors who play with words when they title a book. The title Razing Grace does that on so many levels. It’s that kind of cleverness and wit that drags me into a story and makes me want to read it before I even get into it.

In the second book, in the prologue, we get Raze’s POV, and when I read it, I was so scared of what was going to happen because of what happened at the end of the first book. I was both glad that it wasn’t what I thought it was and terribly saddened when I figured out what it was. However, having that be the prologue and epilogue to the book was perfect. And if you think that I’m being vague, you’re absolutely right. I’m being very vague.

The end of book one killed me, completely. The end of book two, I was right there with what happened and why it happened, and I totally support their actions. I found the way Millie handled it to be very appropriate. I would probably have done that too, in her place.

OK, that’s really all I’m going to say about these books. I have the first two in the series to read, and I’m waiting for book 2 of Crowned By Hate, which was the first book of Amo’s that I read, and which is one of the biggest mindfucks I’ve ever read, and we all know that I love to read mindfucks.
