Anthology-Christmas at the Club

Merry Kinkmas! Today we have an anthology written by 17 authors that take place in several different worlds, and involve 17 different kink clubs. We have established groupings, new couples, Doms and Dommes, Littles and subbies, and good, clean, kinky, dirty fun. Christmas at the Club includes stories from Alta Hensley, Jennifer Bene, Samantha Cole, Pepper North, and Linzi Basset. As with any anthology that is this long, and it is long, I’m only going to mention a few. If you want to see what I thought about all the stories, you can check out my GR review.

Jennifer Bene A Not So Silent Night

This one includes the Infamous trio of Emma, Chase, and Jaxon. Chase doms Emma, and Jax doms them both. They weren’t the first MMf trio I read, but they are still my favorite. the Infamous trio is the basis of the entire Black Light series. Generally, they are written by Livia Grant, but Jennifer wrote this one, mostly because Livia has another story in here. Anyway, I was really glad to see these guys because they are always so hot. On top of being hot, we also get the real life issues of trying to be parents, trying to spend time with in laws, and trying to be the kinky fuckers that you are. I really loved the juxtaposition.

Livia Grant A Kinky Crossover

This is Livia’s story. It takes place in her Punishment Pit world, which appears to be in the same world as Black Light, as Jax has called Lukas to ask if they can come to Lukas’ Christmas party. Because of that phone call, we get to see another little bit of the trio, as well as getting to see Lukas and Tiffany. I love Tiffany’s spunk and the fact that she hasn’t lost that in the year of being married to Lukas. She also has some of my favorite lines in the entire anthology, including her answer to why she’s being punished. She tells the person asking that she’s pretty sure that the reason that she’s getting punished this time is because she married Lukas. Her entire thought stream about her clit at this point is fucking hilarious too.

Alta Hensley Villains and Champagne

This takes place in Alta’s Top Shelf series. Harley is my absolute favorite of all the Domes in that world. In fact, I need to go reread his book sometime in the very near future. I was just so happy to see him again. In this one, there’s going to be a party at the club. Harley just wants to go home to see his sub, Marlowe. Except Marlowe has just walked into the club. She really wants to go to the party. I love all the machinations that go into this story.

Maren Smith Keeping Kaylee

This takes place in Maren’s Castle world. Kaylee is the primary female character in the story, but it really involves all the Ladies of the Castle. They all have plans, because they all feel some kind of way right now. But Kaylee is the driving force. I have to admit that I really felt for Kaylee. It’s easy to end up feeling like you are the last priority on everyone’s list. It’s a really hurtful, sad, and lonely place. I don’t blame her for her plan to get Marshall to pay more attention to her.

Golden Angel A Sassy Christmas

This one takes place in Golden’s Stronghold world. We get to see Adam and Angel struggling to keep their kinky marriage kinky or even sexy after being parents for a year. Now, if you have been a mother, you totally get Angel in this story. I’m not dissing Adam, because parents are going to get him too, and he is doing the best he can, and he does pretty good. But for me, it’s all about Angel and how she feels. I remember feeling that same way when my now very adult son was a baby. I didn’t understand why I wasn’t ready to jump back into sex at 6 weeks, and I hated being touched for a long while. I nursed a very clingy baby, for a year. I almost never had any time when people weren’t touching me, so I totally felt Angel in this one.

There are a lot of other really good stories in here. The nice thing about an anthology is that there is a little something for everyone. Some of the stories are pretty short, but some of them are longer. If you want something that you can read in a few minutes before bed, you can find one with no problem.

Grace Goodwin-Claimed by the Cyborgs

Back to Grace and her Interstellar Brides. As you can tell by the title Claimed by the Cyborgs, we’re back on the Colony. And this one made me very sad sometimes. All three of the main characters, because we’re dealing with Prillons, are very broken, and I just couldn’t help pulling for them from the very beginning and wanting for their relationship to succeed. I had a real visceral need for them to get their HEA.

Like usual, we start at bride testing, with Danika getting tested. She’s a volunteer from jail. She’s only 23, but she’s spent 7 years in jail for committing a murder, and now she’s looking for something she hasn’t had, pretty much ever. She wants love, stability, safety, and a home. She doesn’t trust the program or the wardens when they say that is exactly what she is going to have, but she’ll try to hope. Danika ends up with a 99% match to a Prillon warrior, and the warden explains that means that she’s going to have 2 mates, the primary that she’s matched to, and a second that he chooses. Danika, all hopped up from her testing, thinks that’s just about alright with her. She really liked her testing.

As a side note, we didn’t have Warden Egara doing most of the testing. She’s training someone new, but we did at least get to see everyone’s favorite warden. I really want her to have a happy ending with a new warrior or warriors. I think maybe being matched to Prillons again might not be the best for her. Maybe an Atlan?

Anyway, on the Colony, we have Thomar and Varin. Thomar is Danika’s match, but he is refusing to take a bride, and it’s not because he’s a jerk or anything. He and Varin have only been at the Colony for a couple of days, and only because Dr. Sunnar is there, and he has been very successful in removing Hive implants. You see, Thomar and Varin were held by the Hive for over 2 years, and were tortured and experimented on. Among other things, the Hive implanted Thomar’s mating collars in the guys, and caused them to create a mind link. Thomar is in constant pain, and is pretty much always triggered. Varin can just barely managed to keep Thomar as stable as possible, and he helps bear Thomar’s pain, which is intense. To top it all off, Thomar really just wants to die. So the guys agree that they will refuse their bride.

When Danika hears that, she first is frustrated and kind of accepting, because she knew that this would happen. But when she learns more about Thomar and Varin, she decides fuck that, and that she’s going to fight for them. Thomar and she matched 99%, which means that they are perfect for each other, and she’s not willing to let that go. She decides that she’s going to get real up close and personal with the guys, because she is going to claim them, whether they like it or not.

Thomar and Varian are stubborn af, but they really don’t have a patch on Danika. I honestly don’t think that they could possibly out stubborn her, no matter how hard they try. Even combined, she manages to get her way. She doesn’t push, she doesn’t cry, she doesn’t manipulate, she just says that this is the way that it’s going to be, and it is. She also does everything she can to protect her guys. And that includes facing down Helion, the head of IC, who I really, really, really hate.

Danika is a survivor and a protector. I mean, don’t get me wrong, T & V are too, but Danika has always been that, and for the majority of her very short life, she’s had to be that, and there has been no one to back her up, so when she sees Varin and Thomar, and how much they really need someone who will protect them and stand up for them, they trigger her instincts, so, she does what she needs to. I think that she may be one of my favorite Brides.

In fact, I think that this trio may be one of my favorite pairings. I mean, I love pretty much every pairing, and we all know how I feel about Atlans, but there is something about the way that these 3 very damaged and broken beings come together and make one unit that is really special, and something that I don’t think we’ve seen as much in the IBP world until now. Yeah, there’s been broken characters, but the damage in this one is so profound.

I can’t wait to see what Grace has planned for the IBP world. We learned some interesting stuff in this one, so I’m really excited.

Top MM Books of 2020 Pt. 2

OK, we’re back with the second part of my best MM books of 2020. I have 2 books and 1 series of 6 books on this part of the list. And yeah, the entire series belongs on this list. It’s amazing. Remember, these are in no particular order. So, let’s get to it, shall we?

Nikole Knight-Fire & Brimstone Scrolls

When I first got the ARC for Revelations, the first book, it said that it was a RH, but I think that it is more like a poly series instead. It’s 4 guys, Riley, Noel, Jairus, and Gideon. Well, it’s Riley and his 3 guardian angels, but it turns into a relationship. It’s a slow burn series, and I mean seriously slow burn. I don’t think that there is any sex stuff until late in the 2nd book, and normally I’m not a fan of such a slow burn, but the story in this one really dragged me in. It is an intense series, with a lot of horrible things that happen to the main characters, and I mean terrible, terrible, terrible things. There are discussions of previous abuse and sexual assault. The series totally broke my heart at times, but the end totally made it worth everything. Honestly, I can’t even say how much I love this series. One really awesome thing is that we get a character is on the asexual spectrum, and we get to see how the relationship works there.

Gianni Holmes-Fable’s Foes

This is a gay MC Daddy poly book, with age play. Yeah. It may sound like something that shouldn’t work. I mean, you jam all kinds of tropes into one book, and it could get messy. And I’ve seen it happen. But it didn’t here. We have Fable, who is a Little, and who has to hide himself for so many reasons. Then he gets kidnapped. He gets rescued by bikers, because they were there to rescue someone else. Booker and Zak are two of the bikers, and they had been in a relationship of sorts, but they aren’t so much right now. But they are all attracted to each other. Part of the reason I like this one is that we get to see a main character who has something called Klinefelter syndrome, which gives him XXY instead of XY. He’s not trans, but he does have certain issues that go with it, and we get to see the effects of his disorder on his sex life.

Susan Hawke-Rules to Ignore

This is the 7th and last book in Susi’s Davey’s Rules series, and it’s Davey’s story. We kept waiting for this one to come out and it was well worth the wait. The whole series is a Daddy series, and the rules part comes from the rules that Davey sets for his Daddy. I think by the end of book 6, there are 90 some rules. Then we get to Davey’s book, and everything changes. We get to see Davey learning a lot more about himself than he had in the past, in a good way. We also get to see a non-traditional Daddy/boy relationship, and one that is pretty awesome.

Lee Savino-Mastered By the Berserkers

It’s been a while since we got to see some of Lee’s hot and hunky Berserkers, so I’m really happy to get back to it with Mastered By the Berserkers. This is the latest one in the Berserkers Bride series, which started by taking spaewives from a nunnery. This one runs concurrently with some of the other books (if I am recalling the timeline correctly, I didn’t go back and reread the entire series). (I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.)

SSo, we are finally getting to Sister Juliet’s story. She was the only one of the nuns to try to protect the young women in their care, and she got taken too. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she’s a spaewife, just like all the young women under her care are. When they got taken, there were a couple of Berserkers who paid her a lot of attention, Jarl and Fenrir. Any time that they saw that she needed something, that thing would just magically show up where she is. Once they finally got to the Berserkers’ mountain, many of the spaewives, especially the younger girls, live in one long house, under the care of Sister Juliet, who is a devoted Christian and who is deeply devoted to making sure that her young charges are safe, warm, and fed. Meanwhile, she’s hiding the fact that she is starting to feel the things that the other spaewives do.

Jarl and Fenrir know that she is their mate, but they’ve been careful aboout how they go about dealing with her. Their Alphas have made it very clear that the Berserkers aren’t to be just grabbing any spaewife that they want, it has to be the woman’s choice, and if things don’t happen that way, there will be hell to pay. So, they’ve been waiting for Sister Juliet, but one night, things come to a head, and they spirit her away. They take her far away to the other side of the mountain where they have built a house for her. Jarl and Fenrir are going to make her theirs now.

Like I said before, Juliet is a devout Christian, I mean, nun, right? Because of that, she has some issues with being with any man, let alone two men. Celibacy is a thing, and it’s a thing that she’s sure that she has to stick to, because she made a vow to her God. I think that she is a very good person. She really wants to stick with her beliefs, but Jarl and Fenrir have made it really obvious that she is their priority and that they really want her. She spends a lot of time really torn over how she feels over everything, and I can understand why she feels that way.

Jarl and Fenrir show just how much they have paid attention to Juliet, and how willing they are to give her what she needs and what she wants. I am really impressed by the measures that they are willing to go to so that Juliet will be happy. I truly approve of that.

I can’t wait for the next one in this series, because the Berserker Saga books were some of the first books I read when I started getting into indie books and romances back several years ago now. When I was a young tween, I read romance a lot. Harlequin was my friend, but I pulled away from that for a while, but now I mix romance in with all my other reading, in case you haven’t noticed, LOL.

I do think that the Alphas are just a teeny tiny hypocritical in this, and I’m glad that they get called on it, because they really should’ve been.

Celeste Jones-Their Blushing Bride

Celeste has decided that she’s going to join the save a horse, ride a cowboy (or 2) movement and join in the Bridgewater Brides world with Their Blushing Bride. You know me, I’m always up for a good menage, so the Bridgewater world is perfect for me. The only thing that would make anything better is if one f the books was MMF instead of just MFM. Don’t get me wrong, I like MFM just fine, and I’ll read it every day of the week and twice on Sundays, but there’s just something about MMF that’s just really attractive to me. But, that’s neither here nor there, so let’s talk about this one.

Miss Lily Snow is minding her own buisness in Butte Montana, walking along the street with a pair of children, when the wind steals her hat away from her. Two super hot, gorgeous cowboys rescue her hat and give it back to her. She barely has a moment to talk to them before the children catch up to her, and so does their father.

Rye and Keane are childhood best friends. Rye, being the 3rd son of a lord, spent his years doing all that British nobility stuff. Keane became a soldier and went to Mohamir and then to Montana. He wrote his BFF Rye to come out to Montana and told him all about the Bridgewater marriage plan. So, off they are to Butte, to find their bride. Which they do, when an errant blast of wind knocks her hat off her head and right into their path. Of course, they figure that she’s married, because she’s with two kids and a man comes up and joins them as she and the kids are walking away. They were only able to talk to her long enough to find out her name, Lily Snow, and they think that their chance with her is gone forever.

I think that Lily is a lot bolder than you might expect a woman in that particular era to be. You tend to think about late Victorian women to be uber proper and all prim. Well, Lily is not that. That’s not to say that she’s just all free and bold all over the place, it’s just more that she doesn’t let things really inhibit her. At least, that’s what I think. It also appears that she has a really sweet, good heart, and is one who just seems to be friendly with everyone. I wish we got to know more about her, but the book is pretty short, and a quick read, so we don’t get to know her or the guys as much as we might otherwise.

Rye and Keane both seem to be honorable men. They definitely want to make sure that ladies in distress don’t stay in distress any longer than neceessary, as is obvious by the fact that they rescue her hat for her. They are both sweet too, they may have some alpha male tendencies, but they really seem to very sweet on top of that. I like both of them.

No spoilers today, because it’s a really quick and easy read with just enough sass, steam, and sweet. Go check it out!

Raisa Greywood-Their Wanted Bride

So, Vanesa Vale has a series called Bridgewater. It’s a MFM menage. It takes place in Montana, mostly in the 1880s, but I’m pretty sure that there are contemporary stories too. I’d have to go check, but Amazon is being a PITA for me right now. Anyway, Vanessa has opened up her world a little bit and now there are several new authors stepping in. Their Wanted Bride is the first of those books, and Raisa’s offering to the world. (It’s currently up everywhere but Amazon, because apparently they are being a PITA for everyone).

In this world, there is a small country near Egypt called Mohamir. In that country, it is the custom for 2 men to take the same woman as a bride. Some American men went to Mohamir and fought a war, and liked the idea, so they brought the idea home to Bridgewater, Montana. Now, it’s accepted and expected that every marriage will be 2 men and 1 woman. Into this world come Justin and Caleb.

The guys have been best friends for their entire lives. They’ve gotten up to all kinds of tomfoolery and hijinks, as kids do, when they are kids. As they got older, they discovered the fun of taking a woman together, and then they heard about Bridgewater. Now they have a cattle ranch, and they’ve decided it’s time to take a bride. Or, rather Caleb did, and he convinces Justin to go along, not that he had to work all that hard. He placed an ad in a newspaper that said, among other things, seeking a bride who has her own horse and saddle. Caleb promises that they’ll have a bride by the time the weather turns.

Meanwhile, back in Kentucky, we have Madeline, who is living with her wicked step-mother. Her father died a few months prior, and her step-mother is bound and determined to marry Maddy off. Let me tell you, the evil step-mother is truly evil. She’s caned Maddy so hard that she now has scarring. And she’s working with a nasty scumbag in town to marry Maddy off. Maddy doesn’t know about that until she rides her beloved horse, Prince, into town and the jerk-off tells her that the evil bitch has sold Prince to him and the only way that Maddy can keep the horse is if she marries him. Maddy refuses to do that, and in desparation, looks at the mail order bride ads, and finds one that suits her, in Bridgewater Montana, so she sneaks away and makes her way there.

Maddy has balls of solid titanium. I mean, damn. I think that she is brave, bold, courageous, and strong. She has no problem doing what she thinks is the right thing. She is definitely a Raisa heroine. I really liked her a lot.

I like Justin and Caleb a lot too. They truly care for and cherish Maddy. Not only that, they support her and let her be her. In this case, it means that they understand that she wants to work and that she has skills that can help them out. She’s more than just their wife, she’s also their partner and helpmeet. That’s what Maddy wants to be, and they can see that, even if they would rather have a wife who doesn’t have to do anything and one who would let them take care of everything for her. Very great guys.

Sorcha Black-Cruel Idols

Sorcha has written a fantastic MMF story. It’s dark, intense, super sexy, and incredibly twisted. In other words, Cruel Idols is very definitely a Sorcha Black book. This is an enemies to lovers book, and I totally, totally agree with the classification. In fact, I may even suggest that there are times that there is a whole antagonistic relationship all the way through the book, even at the end. But, it totally works for this book.

So, we start with Sadie. She’s on her bike with her most treasured possession in her backpack. It’s a special book hardcover book that’s bound in leather and is written by her favorite author, Vandal Stokes. A friend of hers told her that he was living in a cottage outside their very small Canadian town. So, Sadie can’t resist getting her book signed. She knows that it’s a little stalker-y, but she doesn’t have a lot of stuff, and she scrimped and saved in order to get this book, and she really wants to get that autograph. Sadie rides up to the cottage and knocks on the door, but no one answers. She decides that she’s going to go jump in the lake that she can see in the backyard because she can do that without being a problem, so she thinks. But then, Vandal pops up and starts yelling at her. He keeps accusing her of reading his new novel and stealing it. Which she hasn’t done. They finally agree to sign a contract so that Sadie will stay at the cottage with Vandal and help edit his work, with no contract with anyone else until his book gets published.

Vandal keeps telling Sadie that he isn’t attracted to her. He also tells her that he needs to have someone babysit her sometimes, so his friend, another author, Zero, will come to stay with them. But Zero isn’t just his author friend or even just a friend. They are in a relationship, and not just that, but a kinky AF relationship, with Vandal as the Dom. Luckily, Sadie is kinky AF too.

Sadie is fascinating if you ask me. She can’t decide whether or not she likes or hates Vandal. She’s slightly surer when it comes to Zero, but even then, things aren’t as sure as they could be, especially after she realizes how Vandal feels about Zero and vice versa. She is kinky, submissive, and has an incredibly twisted brain. She really does fit in pretty well with the guys, and I think that she might actually push them in ways they wouldn’t have tried on their own. I also think that she fills a hole in the relationship that Vandal and Zero had that they weren’t aware of. I think that she makes Vandal deal with his emotions more and Zero be a little less impulsive.

Vandal is a dickhole. I understand where some of that dickhole-ishness comes from, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t part of his personality and the things that pushed that aspect just pushed it. I think that he needs to back away from his feelings about his father. They aren’t going to help him in any way, and maybe he should talk to someone about his paranoia. I’m pretty sure that Sadie will help him with that.

I think of the two guys that Zero is my favorite. I like how he can bridge between Vandal and Sadie, being what each of them needs. I’m not entirely sure that Vandal and Sadie would’ve really had any happy sexy times without him there to instigate it. I dunno, maybe there would’ve been, but I think that Zero really enables it.

I loved this book. I’ve loved everything that I’ve read of Sorcha’s, but there is just something about this one that is toe-curling and so good.

Sorcha Black-The Sharp Edge of Bliss

So, Sorcha Black is back. And she’s back in spectacular style with The Sharp Edge of Bliss. Sorcha classifies this as an enemy to lovers book, and it’s MMF. I’ll definitely agree to the MMF, but I’m not quite as sure on the enemy to lovers. I’m going to say that it’s probably the closest description, so I guess I’ll agree.

Here’s our story. Star is a young woman whose uncle uses her as payment. If he owes someone money or a favor, Star is going to pay it back. She’s been doing this for more years than she should’ve ought’ve been, but her uncle basically owns her and she has to pay him back for everything she owes him.

Today, she’s being dropped off in front of Mr. Rathburn’s house. She’s not sure how long she’s going to be there, she just knows that her uncle told her that Rathburn is her boss right now, and she has to do whatever he says. So, she walks into his office, expects that she’s about to be told to strip off, but she’s in for a huge surprise. Rathburn tells his associate, Otis, to go get the boy.

In walks an angel, or at least someone who looks like an angel, Blaise. Star is told that she’s there for him, and whatever he wants her to do, she will. Only, Blaise isn’t happy. He doesn’t want her, he wants Rathburn. But that’s not happening. Nope, Star’s there to make him happy, no matter what Blaise really wants. Rathburn has spoken, and really, don’t fuck with Avery Rathburn. You will not like the results.

This story is all told from Star’s POV. I don’t think that it would’ve worked if we went back and forth in perspectives. I think her innocence (which yeah, I know it’s odd to call a sex worker innocent, but she really has this whole childlike innocence going on) and naivete really let us see Blaise and Avery the way that they really are. She sees things that they don’t see about themselves. She’s also had to learn how to read people, for her own safety, and that gives her more insight too. I think that for as worldly and experienced Blaise and Avery are, Star is better at reading people than they are.

I would periodically get angry at Blaise and Avery because they would just assume that Star would know or understand something, even though she kept telling them that she didn’t quite get whatever. They just didn’t have the same experience set that she had, and it’s hard to understand her experiences when it’s not anything that they’ve ever had to deal with. I mean, they do try, but they just don’t quite get it, and it’s frustrating to me.

I really enjoyed watching Star grow into her power and become the strong person that she is.

I love Sorcha, and I love the way that she writes MMF. I’m going to have to go read about Sev again this weekend.

Cari Silverwood-Cyn

Cari has finally released the last book in her Beast Horde series with Cyn. I was totally ready for this book, and I’m not sad for the wait, not like it was a horribly long wait. But this was definitely worth every single second that I had to wait for the ARC.

Now, before I get started, I want to remind people that there are likely to be spoilers in this review for the first two books because of the way that Cari wrote them. So, if you’ve been waiting for Cyn to come out before you read the rest of the books, this is the time to do it, but wait until you read them before you go on with this. If you get spoiled after this, well, I warned you.

So, when we left our intrepid trio, Willow was gone and we learned more about where the beasters came from. The original beasters got dwarf, fae, or gargoyle DNA mixed into their system. The Maelstrom beasters, like Cyn, come from trolls and demons. Can you guess what kind of DNA that Cyn got? If you guessed demon, you get a flaming ovation. It’s like a standing ovation, but with flaming hands instead. Cyn, Rutger, Vargr, and their remaining beaster party decide that they need to go talk to the War tribe, because well, their name speaks for itself, doesn’t it? This is when we start to find out exactly how awesome Big Daddy is, and it really is.

Meanwhile, we have the Ghoul Lord Avidex who is up to no good at all, and who is doing nasty things. He’s also plotting and planning, and making interesting decisions. And maybe, just maybe, some things that he didn’t see happening may happen. It’s just one of those things that we have to watch and see.

So, Cyn has always been a fascinating and badass character. I mean, look at some of the things that she’s done in the last two books. She’s just gone out and fought and killed as necessary. There’s also the fact that she really doesn’t know much about herself before waking up and being the only person to come back from the GL. I, personally, have theories about who she was before she was changed with the nanites, but Cari didn’t ask me. I think that her explanation of Cyn’s history works, it’s just not my personal theory, but it’s her world, so it’s her canon, so…

Anyway, yeah, Cyn has been badass and fascinating, but I have to admit there were times that she was a little scary in this one. I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one who thinks that too. I know that Vargr does at times. I’m not sure about Rutger though. He keeps his counsel a little more and I’ve always had a harder time reading him and his feelings.

The thing about Cyn being a bit scary in this one is that she doesn’t even mean to be. She has reasons to do what she did, and they are very logical reasons. They make sense in the context of what happens. That doesn’t make her any less scary. Not in the least.

And before I go, I want to give a huge shout out to Little Mo. He’s the Samwise Gamgee of this world, and the series would be lesser without his character in it.

Loki Renard-Seeded

Seeded is a fun and filthy little story. It takes in the far future, one where the history is even crazier than our present. It’s a RH/menage kind of story, and there are definitely some interesting goings-on.

So, Lyra has worked really, really, really hard to get her job. She orbits the earth in a shuttle, doing all kinds of surveillance and such like. Then, she sees an anomaly out in space, so, being the curious sort, she goes off to investigate it. And that’s when everything changes.

You see, the mysterious anomaly is a spaceship called Virility. The crew of the Virility is all about breeding. They are out to inseminate as many species as possible. The goal is to make an ideal species that is a mix of everyone. And not only are they out there inseminating species, they are also inseminating space itself. Lots of fucking going on here.

They haven’t kept any of the women, at least until Lyra. Then again, none of the other women have tried to crash their ship right into the Virility. Talon, the captain of the ship, sees something about her and decides that he is going to keep her. But, of course it ain’t that easy. Lyra is bound and determined to get back to Earth, and she’s going to do everything she can to get there, including sabotaging things. Doing that brings her to the attention of Shank, the disciplinarian of the ship, and she gets punished for her transgressions. Then she meets Luca, who looks pretty human, and they become very friendly. Very, very friendly, if you catch what I’m pitching.

There is some fantastic fucking going on in this story. There’s also a chunk of humor in here. I spent some time just laughing my ass off. There were also times that were really sad. I did have tears going on when I read it.

I like that each guy met a need in Lyra, and she met a need each of the guys had. It is a really good relationship for everyone. I definitely think that she should be the captain of the ship though. It was pretty funny when she kept telling Talon that. And Major Tom? I’m a huge Bowie fan, so I had Space Oddity in my head after meeting that.

This is not one of Loki’s darker reads, but it is definitely worth it.

The void monster thingie is really fascinating. And so is Lyra’s solution.

I don’t know whether I like before Lyra or after Lyra most. There are definitely differences and similarities in there.
