Jane Henry-Mac

Hot Scottish men? Sign me right up! And Jane delivered with Mac, the second book of her Mountain Men series, covering the Scottish Mafia. And in my imagination, Mac is chopping wood wearing a kilt, in proper Scottish fashion.

So, Mac and his brothers are plotting revenge against their enemies for their actions against Paisley. They have finally decided that what is going to happen is that Mac is going to seduce Brynn, the only daughter of the family, and then ruin her. So, to do that, he’s going to do everything he can to get her to notice him, and he’s going to use all the information that he’s been gathering for months and months against her. So, he manages to “meet” her and then starts to get to know her. He finds out a few things about her that he didn’t know, and arranges to meet her that night.

Meanwhile, Brynn is just trying to live her life and start her fashion design business. She’s keeping it secret from her dad, because she knows that he won;t approve. He’s a huge raging asshole. But, before Brynn and Mac get to go out on their date, her dad tells her that he knows about her business, and she’s betraying him, so he’s giving her an option. He can arrange her marriage to one of his nasty friends. Or, she can seduce Mac and then ruin him.

Interesting set up, right?

So, I like the play of both of them setting out to seduce the other and ruin them, especially when they both realize that the seduction thing is much less than a game and much more real than they expected it to be. It begs the question, how much of seduction is real and how much is fake?

I like Brynn and her creativity. I think that she is really just talented. I also like how loving she appears to be. She was really concerned about how Mac’s family would act about her, but she really drew them to her. Well, except for Mac’s dad, but he’s a prick, so who cares.

I think that Mac might have been a man whore, but he got better. He is very loyal to his family, and will do whatever he needs to do to make sure that they are protected. He seems quite clever and like he can think through a lot of things that could happen so that he can make a plan to handle everything.

And oh, I think that I have figured out who the author in the book is. I can’t wait to see.

OK, that’s all for today. Go check it out! Happy reading!

K Webster-Shift of Morals

There is a collection called the Kingdom of Wolves. They are all about shifters, and they are all standalones. They are not all MM, but some are. Shift of Morals is one of those books. It exists in the same world as K’s Brigg’s Ferry Bay books, and we get to see some of the characters from those books. But, keep in mind, those books are contemporary, and this one is a PNR.

So, we have Cyrus. He is a park ranger at a small park outside of Brigg’s Ferry Bay. He’s also the alpha of a small shifter pack. When I say small, I mean very small. There are only a handful of them. One of the members of his pack is Remy, who has just turned 18. Remy is constantly butting heads with almost everyone in the pack, but most especially Cyrus.

Years ago, Cyrus and his pack found a young boy who was bloodied and torn laying next to his dead and mutilated mother and sister. Remy survived, mostly, but he can’t speak because of throat damage. And a total fuck ton of anger issues. Right now, he wants to have some freedom. He hasn’t gone to school, he doesn’t have a lot of contact with the outside world. Cyrus and the rest of the pack has kept him safe and away from everyone, especially since they don’t know who attacked him. But, that protection makes Remy really angry. He knows why they want to keep him safe, but he wants them to give him some freedom, and I don’t blame him, at 18, you want that.

Some new people move in down the road, and things start to change, including the fact that Cyrus and Remy now are drawn together, strongly.

To be honest, this isn’t my favorite K book. I like the story, I like the premise, and I liked the characters. But, there are a few places that I felt like there were some shortcuts taken that didn’t quite work. I actually have no problem with shortcuts, and there have been plenty of times in which the same kind of shortcuts have worked really well for me, but in this one, I felt like they didn’t work well and they kind of left me blah.

Will I reread this one? Probably. I enjoyed the read and I can understand why K went the route that she did, I think, and as the author that is totally her right. I will never tell an author how they should or shouldn’t write their books. Their books are their art, and I wouldn’t want someone to tell me how to write if I were in their place. All I can do is talk about how I feel about any particular book, and try to do it in a way that doesn’t spoil the book for anyone else.

Anyway, that said…

I like Cyrus, he really is very protective of his entire pack. I like the fact that the pack has this psychic link that keeps them all in touch with each other, because we get to see how connected and caring they all are towards each other, even Remy.

I did want to smack Remy a couple of times, but he’s 18, angry, and kind of stupid. We’re all kind of stupid at 18. Remy does know how bad the world is, but even knowing that he wants to explore his boundaries, and I think that Cyrus should’ve let him do that.

That’s all for this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

I found him when he was a boy.
Bloody. Mangled. Near death.
If I’d been a merciful alpha, I would’ve snapped his neck and ended him right then.

Except, I didn’t.
Something in his big brown eyes tugged at my heart strings.
I kept him. Healed him. Raised him to be fierce, loyal, and brave.

Now that he’s an adult, everything’s changing.
He’s no longer the soft, scared beta I once thought he was.
No, there’s an uncontrollable anger inside him.
A rage-filled hate I don’t understand.

As a dangerous pack begins tormenting us and destroying our home, I feel him pulling from me as he seeks justice.
He thirsts for revenge, even if it means leaving our pack and going solo.
But, as his alpha, I won’t let him go without a fight.

Each time he pushes, I pull him right back to me.
I’ll keep him locked in my arms or pinned beneath me forever if that’s what it takes to keep him.
A shift of morals has begun.
One I don’t understand, but certainly don’t resist.

I’m the most powerful wolf on Beacon Island. I don’t have weaknesses.
Until now.
This wild, reckless young man changed everything when he stole my heart.

Blurb:
Betraying the most powerful man in New York wasn’t something I ever envisioned when I first started playing games with Winston Constantine. But he’s engaged in far more dangerous games than ours, and his enemies are out for blood.

Winston has my heart, the Morellis have incriminating photos, and I’m left with nothing except three stepbrothers who want to hurt me and a future in doubt. I knew Winston wouldn’t be my prince charming, but that didn’t stop me from falling for him.

After all, the slippers fit, and I let myself believe I’d be dancing with Winston forever.

Until too much truth comes to light.

Until I realize instead of ruling the board, I was just a pawn.

In the end, I have only one question. When his game with me is over, will I be able to pretend as if the glass slipper wasn’t a perfect fit?

Raisa Greywood-Breaking Donatella

This is part of the Leave Me Breathless collections. There are 4 collections that make up the Leave Me Breathless books. Go hit up their website to find out about all the collections. Breaking Donatella is part of the Black Rose Collection, which is all about the dark romance, BDSM, suspense, dark sided things that we all know that I love.

So, we have Cristian Moretti. He’s the head of the Moretti mafia family in Italy. They have been at war with the Rossi family for centuries. The current head of the Rossi family is dying, so Cristian has a deal for him. He tells the old man that he will marry his granddaughter, Donatella, and that will let Cristian merge the families and become super-rich and powerful. Old man Rossi says, oh no, you can’t marry my granddaughter, she’s been dead for years. Cristian is all like, yeah, that’s what you think.

Ella Rose wasn’t born Ella Rose, she was born Donatella Rossi, but when she and her mom ran from Italy, she became someone else. Now, she’s an adventure writer and television personality. She does BASE jumping, diving, rock climbing, and, on this occasion, roller derby. She’s fierce, she’s strong, she’s got all kinds of lady balls. She knows her family history, but she figures being on televison and famous will protect her. Besides, who is going to connect a pierced, tattooed woman with a bright pink mohawk to a dead Mafia princess. Cristian, that’s who.

Cristian manages to kidnap Ella, who wakes up naked, with a collar on, in a private airplane. He tells her what’s going to happen, and she attacks him. He shocks her with the shock collar she’s wearing, and then she manages to get the chain of her cuffs around his neck and nearly kills him. Cristian whips her with his belt, she stoically takes it. He asks if she’s ready to say she’s sorry. Ella tells him that she’s sorry that she was gauche enough to not kill him. He shocks her again.

At this point, Cristian’s plan is to keep her prisoner, break her, and have a perfectly submissive wife who will allow him to take over the Rossi family. He also needs heirs, and getting heirs from her will cement his dynasty. All he has to do get her to marry him, willingly, and oh yeah, put this historical Bridal Collar on her. That collar has been put on women from both families, when they are taken as spoils of war, and the only way to take it off is for the women to be beheaded, since it is literally welded on to their neck.

It’s important to note that the best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry, and this is definitely one of those times. When Cristian made all of his grand plans, he didn’t know what Ella was like, and I think that he would’ve made different plans if he did, but maybe not, because he’s kind of a stubborn man. He thinks that he knows best and that everything is going to go the way that he wants.

I love Raisa’s heroines. She writes some of the most amazingly strong female characters. I mean, just fucking kickass women. Women who try to choke you out with the chains on the cuffs you put on them. Women who manage to escape from locked rooms without going through the door. Women who ask you to kill their grandfather as part of their wedding present. I just really love these women that Raisa writes. Now, that doesn’t say that other authors don’t write strong women, because they do, but there’s just something about Raisa’s characters that is just special. And Ella? I have a definite crush on her.

OK, that’s all for this one. Really, you NEED to go check it out. Yeah, there’s some serious dark things that happen in this, but then there’s Ella. Fanfuckingtastic book.

Addison Cain-Corrupted

So, if you’ve read here for a while, you know that I love omegaverse. You may also know that Addison Cain’s Alpha’s Claim series was the first omegaverse series I read. And Addison has finally come out with the 5th book in the series, Corrupted. She’s been teasing us for so long with it, and finally she took mercy on us. And? The next one is already up for pre-order, and I’ve already hit that button, thank you very much.

We’re in Bernard Dome with Brenya and Jacques. She’s been forcibly pair bonded to him and she’s not really all that happy about it. She hates Jacques, and now she’s stuck with him in her head all the time. He, on the other hand, is thrilled as fuck. He thinks that he’s madly, passionately in love with her, and he has this omega now, and it’s perfect. He also thinks that Brenya is madly in love with him, even though it’s pretty obvious that she’s not. She just barely tolerates him, and the only thing that gets her through is a blank, quiet spot in her soul. She falls into that space when Jacques gets too overwhelming and is able to handle everything.

Meanwhile, Jules, who was also bonded to Brenya at the same time, is sitting in a cell. He’s just sitting in the same space, not moving, not doing anything. Just sitting. And, as we all know that Jules is Shepherd’s right hand man, I think that Jacques should be very worried about this. But, nope, Jacques is sure that he has everything under control because he has a rabid dog on a leash.

Over on the other side of the world, in Greth Dome, we have Shepherd and Claire. She’s getting healthier and she’s happy, but she doesn’t want to leave the house. Shepherd isn’t going to put up with this, so he’s being his normal autocratic assholeish lovable self. #AlwaysAndForeverTeamShepherd He has plans, lots and lots of plans.

I have ever liked Jacques, and I’ve never made any secret of it. He wants to be what Shepherd is, but he isn’t that smart. I mean, he thinks that he is, he thinks that he’s all that and an extra large bag of chips, but yeah, not so much. This book didn’t make me like him. In fact, I may even dislike him more than I did before. There is only one action that he took in this book that I am happy about. Other than that, he can just go and kick rocks.

I am #TeamJules 1000000%. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for him because he is just so very much together and so steady and stoic. I’m pretty sure that there is a whole lot underneath that we haven’t seen yet. Jules was a good friend and good support to Claire in her early days with Shepherd, and that’s part of my soft spot for him.

Brenya? Yeah, she is pretty fucking awesome. She’s not in a good spot, and she doesn’t handle the world she’s currently living in well, but that’s not a huge surprise. I mean, living in this rarified lap of luxury where pretty much everything goes has to be so weird for Brenya, who is very much by the book rule keeping kind of person. She has figured out how to deal with the world where she grew up. She liked that world. She understood the rules, the edges, and the boundaries. But there are no rules where she is, and the boundaries shift constantly. She can’t cope. But, for all of that, she’s still pretty fucking awesome. She is brilliant, and she manages to make connections that no one else would make.

I am, as always, madly in love with Claire and Shepherd, and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen with them next.

I have so many thoughts, but I’m not putting any of them here, because they would be spoilers. Just know that the book is great, and there is so much going on in it, and I’m still trying to see if I can guess what Shepherd’s plans are. I’m pretty sure that I can’t.

Misty Walker-Adler’s Hart

We’re back in Brig’s Ferry Bay, the lovely Maine town that Misty and K Webster created. Well, we’re back in that world, at least. Adler’s Hart takes its time to get there, but it’s worth it to get there, so buckle up and get ready.

We start with Adler. He’s in Ketchikan, Alaska, and has just finished his season of fishing. It’s been a long season, winter is coming, and he’s suposed to leave the following day. That means that it’s time for him to go to the hook up app that he uses and find a one night stand. He only allows himself to hook up with someone the night before he leaves, and then he moves on. He’s very much one and done. So this night, he pulls up the app, and finds the perfect man just waiting there. He’s younger, he’s pretty, and he’s just perfect.

Hart is home from college for break. Home to Alaska from LA, talk about your changes. Among other things, he’s helping his parents, because his dad hurt his back, so when he gets a notification from a hook up app, he’s more than a little shocked. When he looks at the information about the other guy, he’s all for it, and arranges a meet for later that night. When he tells his parents that he’s going on, they warn him that a big snowstorm is coming in. And, whe nhe gets out to the vehicles to grab a car, his dad’s truck won’t start.

Of course, being the smart people that I know you are, you can see all the foreshadowing happening here. Of course Adler and Hart end up snowed in together, in a crappy hotel room, for many, many, many hours. There’s all the happy sexy funn times that you might possibly want, but there’s more than that too. They spend time talking to each other and learning more about each other. Eventually, as it does, time passes, and they are able to get home. Hart goes back home to his parents and Adler gets in his truck and heads south.

I felt so sorry for Adler. No one has ever loved him and given him the time and attention that he needed. His parents hated him and tossed him out, people have hurt him, and then his friends and business partners either died or left. OK, the last one isn’t as bad as the others, but he already had this whole unlovable feeling going on, so that just added on to it. The thing is, he’s just a really nice guy though. He’s really got a good heart and he just wants things to be good.

Hart is super sweet too. He doesn’t like being in a small town, and living in a small town, I can get that, but he loves his parents and he wants to do what he can to help them. OK, he doesn’t want to be stuck in the small town he grew up in, which is different. I like Hart, and I like that he spends the time with Adler and that he really sees Adler in a way that no one else does.

These guys have their issues, but they are a good couple, and I enjoyed their book a lot.

Nothing under the pic today. Go check this out! Happy reading!

Measha Stone-Kept by Him

It’s a new day and we get a new Mafia bride from Measha. Kept by Him is the second in her series of Mafia Brides books. It is connected to the first book, but could be read as a standalone, if you really want to.

Lena’s father is the head of a Polish Mafia group. Her older brother married a woman and they did something to a Russian Mafia family. Len had absolutely nothing to do with it, and she has stayed out of the whole business. But, that doesn’t matter all that much when it comes to Mafia families. One day, when she’s out with her friends, she starts to get a headache and feel a little off. So, she heads out to her car so that she can visit her brother, but before that can happen, some guys grab her, and the next thing she knows, she’s woken up in a small room and it’s not good. She’s been taken by a different family, and they are holding her in the area where they store the women they traffic.

Micah was the second son in his family until his brother died. Now he’s the heir. He finds out that his father has taken Lena and he has to figure out how to handle this situation. When Lena’s brother and father come the next day, Micah’s proposal is that he marry Lena, and then everything will be equal. The peace can be restored in between their families. And Micah is fine with that, but his father? Well…

I like Lena. I feel really sorry for her too. She is angry about everything, and she really has every right to be. She’s totally a pawn in this situation, no choice in anything that is going on with her. I think that she knew what the reality of her world was, and she expected it to happen, but she was hoping that some things wouldn’t happen the way that they did. And I think that she was really hoping that her family would get her out of what’s going on now. It’s one thing to have an arranged marriage, it’s something else to be given as spoils of war, and that’s basically what happened here.

I think that Micah has some really interesting traits. I do think that he should’ve stood up to his father at the very beginning. Hell, even before the beginning of this book. I think that the old man’s brains were leaking out of his ear. He had some serious issues. I mean, serious issues. I think that Micah has a really good grip on the future and what it’s going to take to make the future happen the way that he wants it to.

OK, that’s all for this one. Nothing under the pic today. Go check it out! Happy reading!
