Lily White-Violence

Violence takes us back into Lily’s Inferno world. Today, we get to see the first of the twins, Ezra and find out his story with Emily. Let me tell you, there were times when this story broke my heart and made me teary. And if I didn’t already hate Ezra and Damon’s father, and frankly, all the fathers of the guys in Inferno, I would well and truly hate them after this.

So, Emily has been one of the group that includes the Inferno boys for pretty much their entire lives. Their parents all run in the same circles, which means that the kids all run in the same circle. And Emily knows that she’s going to spend the rest of her life with the Inferno boys, whether she wants to or not, because she was betrothed to Mason when she was born, and they will be married before the two of them turn 30, no matter what. Emily’s mother has been after her for her entire life to act like a lady, to stay chaste, to not do anything that could embarrass the family or Mason’s family, and by her senior year in high school, Emily has taken that to heart. She’s quiet, doesn’t date, and keeps mostly to herself. Then comes Ezra, and everything changes.

Ezra, usually at least, starts breaking into Emily’s life and knocking down her walls. Sometimes it’s Damon, because the boys are identical and they like to play games, and Emily doesn’t always know when it is one of the other. She always asks, and they always tell her that it’s Ezra, so she chooses to believe it is. Anyway, he talks her into playing with him for the last 6 weeks of school. It’s only 6 weeks. And now, Damon joins in, for the fun of it. And it’s mostly good, except for when it isn’t. Every other weekend, the twins disappear and come back bruised and more and more fucked up. It makes Emily mad, and she tells the twins that she will always be there for them.

Fast forward 10 years, and it’s time for the full formal engagement between Emily and Mason. She hasn’t seen the twins in years and years, and there they are. And things get… complicated.

It would kill Ezra to know that I feel sorry for him and his brother. In fact, I feel sorry for all of the Inferno boys. Their fathers are complete and utter dickholes that should be shot right in their left testicle. With a really, really, really, really, really big gun. Anyway, I do feel for him because the people who were supposed to take care of the twins went out of their way to hurt them. I can understand Ezra’s feelings about Emily. It’s the easy way for him to feel. His father has done what he can to beat any kind of feelings out of him, so going to angry and violence is the easy way. You don’t have to think anything, you just get mad. I think that Ezra is a very loyal person, not just to his twin brother, but to all the other Inferno boys. It’s not an easy job, I think, to be loyal to them, because, like I said, they are all kinda fucked up. I think that I actually like Ezra.

Emily has such a beautiful loving heart. She cares so deeply for her friends, and even more deeply for Ezra and Damon. She’s willing to sacrifice herself for the boys, either separately or together. I understand why she makes the choices that she does. I would probably make the same choices in her place. I think that she definitely strong, and she will do everything she can to make sure that Ezra is safe and OK.

One of the things I really like about the way that Lily writes these books is that the female main character seems to break the fourth wall and really talks to the reader. It lets you really be pulled into the books.

I want to know what’s going on with Emily’s brother. There’s a story there, and it’s going to be good, I think.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!
