Blindly Indicted is Katie May’s entry into the Paranormal Prison shared world series. This is my first Katie May book, but it isn’t going to be my last one, because I liked what she did with Nina, Blade, Damien, Bronson, Cain, Abel, and Rion.
We open with Nina escaping from the horrible place where she has been held for her entire life. Not only has she been held there, she’s been tortured. And when I say torture, I mean pretty much daily since she was a young child. And terrible things like having the skin flayed off her back. Luckily, she was able to get away from there, and now she’s running. The problem with running? She’s blind, so it doesn’t matter that she memorized the route that she and Kai came up with. But, she has a power that not many people know of. She can slide into people’s minds and use their eyes to see. It doesn’t even have to be a person, she can also slide into the eyes of animals, which is how she’s been seeing to escape. But then, something happens, and the next time she’s aware, she’s being accused of murdering someone she’s never heard of. To cut to the chase, she ends up in prison, where they stick the political prisoners, the Labyrinth.
Then we have the Labyrinth. It’s basically split into two factions. One faction is the shifters, and the other side is led by Blade, along with his lieutenants, Bronson, a shadow wolf, Damien, a mage and assassin, Cain and Abel, who are twins. Cain is a sex demon and Abel is a trickster demon. Nina gets brought to the throne room, where she is presented to Blade, and all of a sudden, Nina manages to take a look at Blade and discovers that Blade is Kai, the man who was supposed to come back and rescue her, and the first love of her life. This is a total shock to everyone involved, and things happen. And did I mention that Blade is actually a dragon? Yeah.
So, I like Nina, but she’s really naive considering everything that she’s gone through. Then again, she’s been living in a locked cell in a torture compound for her entire life, so it’s not all that surprising that she’s naive. But she’s also really smart, I think, and she has a really good heart. She also sees things in people that no one else does and she gets people to see themselves the way that she sees them. I think that she makes a lot of changes in her world without necessarily trying to, she just does.
This is a reverse harem, but most of the sexual stuff happens one on one, without the other guys around. There are a couple of times when there are two of them, but mostly, Nina has a separate relationship with each of the guys, forming the true center of the group, including Rion, who yeah, I know I haven’t mentioned much. You will just have to read to find out more about him. While Blade and his dudes have formed this inner circle of a gang, they aren’t necessarily friends or even friendly with each other. They all recognize that they are strong, and that they are all stronger together, but that doesn’t mean that they are friends. I think that Nina changes that around. She makes them more of a family group, I think.
While I enjoy RH where everyone is getting busy as a group, I also like it this way. I don’t think this particular story would’ve worked as well if they were all in one big group at once.
I love Nina’s cat. I was very suspicious about it when he first showed up, but seems like a very nice kitty.
