Casey is the second book in Nia and Claire’s Guarded Heart series. The first book was Morgan, and this one takes place mostly concurrently with Morgan. I would suggest that you read it before you read this one so that you can truly understand everything going on.
So, here’s our story. Casey is Morgan’s roommate, and that has brought her to the attention of Malik and Iosefa, two of the cadre. They are pretty sure that she is their fated mate. She is pretty sure that they are a massive pain in her ass. In fact, she tries very hard to ignore the fuck out of them, which vexes our guys. They want to get to know her and woo her, but that means that she is going to have to trust them, and trust is one thing that Casey does not do much of. She trusts Morgan, and that might be it. Oh, she trusts her godmother too, but that’s it.
Casey is a federal agent, and she’s trying to find the person who took down her brother. That’s part of the reason that she has such a hard time trusting people. Trusting means that she has to let people in, and she’s pretty sure that she has good reasons to not do that.
Then we have Malik and Iosefa. They are helping to guard Morgan while still trying to get to know Casey, and occasionally busting criminals, which has gained them a fan club, which really annoys Casey for some reason. They are so drawn to her that they will occasionally sneak away and follow her, which leads to its own problems, right there.
I like Casey. I think that she is a really strong character. She knows what she can do, she knows what she wants, and she’s not about to give up on anything. I think that she’s also annoying AF sometimes. She’s so determined to not let anyone in that she misses that there are people who actually care for her and who want to actually get to know her and love her. She would rather just shove Malik and Iosefa away, because they don’t fit into where she wants them to be.
I like the guys. I think that, for 95% of the time, they are really good, honorable guys. They are going to do everything they can to maintain their mission, as well as try to secure their fated mate. It’s that lasts 5% of the time where I didn’t like them quite as much. There were a couple of times that I thought that they overstepped a bit, and I would’ve been upset at them if they did what they did at my house, and I’m not nearly as secretive and private as Casey is. I understand *why* they did it, I just would’ve been upset in Casey’s place. Would I have done it in their place? Umm… Yeah. So, maybe I’m just a smidge of a hypocrite, LOL.
Anyway, I really can’t wait until the next book, because I know that it’s going to be really good.
I think that more needed to happen to certain people in this one. It just feels like they didn’t get their just desserts.
OK, that’s all for this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!
