Lili Zander & Lee Savino- Draekon Pirate

Lili and Lee have come out with the 3rd book in their Draekon spinoff, with Draekon Pirate. These books are the ones about the original Draekons. They don’t mate in pairs, they are one on one. This is the story of Fourth and Diana.

So, Diana, and her friend Lisa, were two of the human women who had been stolen away. But instead of being tortured like all the other women we’ve seen so far, Diana and Lisa have actually been thriving. That’s because they were saved by some pirates. In the months since they were rescued, Diana has worked herself up to second in command of the ship, and Lisa is part of the bridge crew. They are happy, and they have discovered a family.

Fourth, like most of his brothers, has been sent to rescue the human women that were kidnapped. So, he pulls up to this pirate ship, disables it, walks on to it, and almost gets hit by a thrown knife that he barely catches. That’s when he finds out that the women really don’t want to leave. They are perfectly happy.

BTW? Diana is really good at throwing knives. Like scary good. She grew up in the backwoods, way off the grid. So far off the grid that those prepper nutcases are like dayum. Her father taught her how to hunt and survive, which has really helped her.

Anyway, so Fourth, who has renamed himself Mirak, is fascinated by Diana. There’s just something about her that makes him want to know more about her. And it didn’t hurt that she tried to knife him the first time she met him. And Diana can’t get Mirak out of her mind either. (I originally had mound there, which works too.)

I think that Diana is a lot of fun. There’s just something about her that I really like. She has her own serious issues, mostly spawning from the way that she grew up and the way that the adults in her family treated her, but she’s also incredibly competent, smart, strategic, and just fierce. I think that she really blossomed on the pirate ship. It really was the perfect thing for her.

Mirak really needed to figure out who he was after waking back up. I think that he was really kind of lost after waking back up and was a little bit scared of everything, even if he wasn’t going to admit to being scared of anything. Because, you know, big scary dragon.

pirates-587988_1280

OMG, the horridness that came out of Mirak’s mouth. Diana should’ve shoved a knife in there. DEEP.

OK, that’s all for this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

Jane Henry-Keenan

Keenan is the first book in a new series from Jane Henry. We’re in Ireland, and dealing with the clans. In this setting, the clans are basically the organized group families. In Keenan’s family, he’s the heir to the throne, so to speak. So, here’s our story.

Keenan is having a meeting with his father and their inner circle, including his father’s brother, the Father. At the meeting, the Father tells Keenan that he would find the answers he needs about a particular problem at the lighthouse. Now, the priest is a little obtuse, but he has to be, because he might be nudging the lines of confidentiality from the confessional. So, Keenan takes one of his men with him, and they go off to the lighthouse.

Caitlyn lives in the lighthouse. She’s never been anywhere but the lighthouse, in her entire life. Her father, who has been dead for the last month or so, always told her that there were people who would kill her if they knew about her, so she has always stayed in the lighthouse and stayed hidden. Which, she would be doing now, if only she could. But her father is now dead, and she’s eaten all the food in the house. In fact, it’s now been several days since she ate the last bit of food in the house. She’s searched all over the house, and there’s no money, no food, nothing. So, she decides that she needs to do something about it. First she decides that she’ll go to the shed to see if there is anything in here, and if there isn’t, then she’ll have to leave altogether, but she’s worried because she doesn’t even have shoes, and she doesn’t even know anyone there. But before that happens, some guys rush into the shed. She hits one and racks the other, and tries to get away. Too bad it doesn’t happen that way.

So, Caitlyn is really smart and she’s really insightful. I think that she sees things about people that no one else has seen about them. I think that’s because she spent her entire life alone, except for her father, so no one told her that she couldn’t see that, if you know what I mean. She’s very direct, and is willing to tell people exactly what she thinks and ask them questions that she really wants to know the answer to. I like the way that she talks. It feels a lot like Jane Austen or something, because of the way that she phrases things. It gives the book a very distinctive flavor.

I mostly like Kennan. He’s a good man who has to do bad things sometimes, but there’s a good man there. Of course, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t act like a jerk, and he doesn’t do things that hurt Cait, even if he doesn’t mean to. I think that he just isn’t used to dealing with someone who has a wold view like Cait does, and a lack of understanding of the world. But, I think that she’s really good for him.

You know, I kept putting things in here, but then I’d change my mind, so nothing here.

Dani Rene-The Devil’s Plaything

Dani has a new book out to get us through the quarantine. Today we have The Devil’s Plaything, which is a dark mafia book, although I would probably call it a cartel over a mafia, because it takes place in Colombia, but whatever, however.

So, here’s our story. We have Victor who is the head of the Cordero Empire. He’s not a nice guy. In fact, he’s pretty much a monster, just ask him, he’ll tell you. He likes to burn people alive, after chopping off their fingers, and feeding the person their fingers. See, not a nice guy. He’s just discovered that one of his men is stealing drugs from him and selling them to someone else. That is a major no-no. No one steals from Victor. He’s off to find the person who stole from him so that he can punish them. When he does find the person, he finds Hector, who used to work for his father as well. Then he finds something even better. He finds out that Hector has a beautiful daughter named Sofia. And guess who just became the repayment to Victor? If you guess Sofia, you would totally be right.

Sofia is a young woman who has faced death for a long time, and expects to walk along with death for a while longer. When her father doesn’t show up one day, she gets a call from her uncle, who tells her to run to a particular address, stay there until 0 dark 30, and then run. She’s supposed to get the fuck out of Colombia and never come back. Only Victor’s man catches her, and she ends up being taken to Victor, whether she wanted to go or not.

Victor is an asshole a great deal of the time. The thing is, I don’t think asshole is actually his default setting. Of course, nice guy definitely isn’t his default setting, but I think that reaching asshole is something he has to hit a button to get. And there are a couple of times when he’s not just an asshole, but he’s a huge fucking asshole who needs his ass kicked. No one is every going to do it, or tell him he can’t, but it really needed to happen. I think that he was blinded by what had happened in his past, and was transferring his experiences on to Sofia, and he made a seriously shitty choice.

I think Sofa is legit a queen. I think that she had to grow up a little too fast, and she’s definitely weary of the world, and I don’t blame her a bit for it. I would kind of be weary of the world in her case too. I think that she has a lot of strength, grit, courage, and bravery. I mean, she stands up to the man she calls Diablo, devil. Not only does she stand up to him, she defies him, she demands things from him, and she holds her own. Not all the time, for sure, but sometimes, yeah. And it’s a good thing that she has all those things, because she really needs them and she is sorely tested.

I’m looking forward to seeing if we get to see more of Javier, because I’m looking forward to his story.

colombia-4924705_1920

It was nice to see some old friends pop up. And I almost wanted it to turn into some kind of MMF thing, but I’m pretty sure that Victor wouldn’t be having with that. I do like Javier though.

OK, that’s all for this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

A. F. Zoelle-Bet on Love

A. F. Zoelle is a new author to me, but I think that won’t last very long. I enjoyed Bet on Me, and I’m looking forward to the next books in the series, because I’m pretty sure that they are going to be good. There were a couple of places that I thought that this one was a tiny bit problematical, but it wasn’t anything serious, and it may have been problematical from only my viewpoint. Like I said, it wasn’t enough to cancel out my enjoyment of the books, so there’s that.

So, Rhys is in Las Vegas to marry his witch of a girlfriend, Olivia. He’s not happy, and he’s sitting on his bed with his best friend and best man, Lucien AKA Luci, talking about it. That’s when he has the best bad idea ever. What would happen if he got married to someone BEFORE he had to marry Olivia? Just walk into a wedding chapel, find an Elvis impersonator, and get married? Obviously he was just little tipsy. And Luci was just tipsy enough to go along with it.

The next morning, Rhys wakes up with a naked body next to him. The problem? It’s not who he expects it to be. It’s not Olivia, it’s definitely Luci. The two of them finally figure out that they are well and truly legally married. And oh, Luci is wearing Olivia’s wedding ring.

So, I read a lot of MM, and I’ve read a lot about a gay man being in love with his straight best friend, and his straight best friend finally figuring out he’s not so straight, AKA gay for you or GFY. This one is almost like that, but not quite. In fact, as I was reading it, I realized that I couldn’t really come up with a trope for it.

Here’s the thing, these guys have been best friends since pretty much birth. There was some experimenting when they were teenagers, but they managed to shove it down inside themselves (that’s what he said) for whatever reason. And in the years since, they’ve both thought that they were straight and have been with women. So, here’s the question, are they gay, bi, pan? That’s not anything that AF goes into in this one, and you know what? I like that. They aren’t trying to figure out what the label is, they are trying to figure out what the relationship is and what they are to each other. I think it works quite well.

OMG, the scene at breakfast with Olivia and her family and the scene in the honeymoon suite had me laughing my ass off.

BLURB:

Sometimes all a lion shifter wants is a snuggly bunny to cuddle. And Kasim has been stalking his very kissable prey with the patience of a true hunter. But as the perfect moment to pounce arrives, life throws some obstacles in Kasim’s path and his hopes for something more with a certain some-bunny are dashed quite possibly forever.

The last of her siblings to find a partner, bunny shifter Bailey Bunson has been waiting for her fated mate. But when her dream of predestined love is ripped from her grasp, Bailey fears she’ll never know her own happily-ever-after. That is, until she realizes the unassuming lion shifter who’s been by her side might not be her fated mate, but is everything she’s ever wanted. Will it be too late for Bailey and Kasim?

KASIM

For weeks, he’d been sidestepping actually making love to her, even though she’d indicated she was more than ready. He wanted it to be special, memorable—unforgettable.

As if I am forgettable. His lion sniffed, tossing his mane with derision. Confidence was one thing his animal side didn’t lack.

“You look amazing,” Bailey said, stepping back from Rana.

“So, do you,” Rana replied.

They both did, but Kasim was obviously far more interested in what Bailey was wearing. The lacy purple dress hugged her curves and had a very high slit up the side of her left leg that made Kasim want to get on his knees and go exploring.

They switched sides, so Bailey could hug her brother, and Kasim dropped a kiss on Rana’s cheek. He was glad to see her so happy—she deserved it.

As Brice and Rana moved away to circulate among their guests, Bailey’s hand dropped down to squeeze Kasim’s butt, and his cock jerked in interest. Raising his eyebrows, he looked down at her.

“What?” she asked, summoning up an amazingly innocent expression, especially considering she hadn’t moved her hand. “Your suit jacket is long enough, no one can see what I’m doing.”

I know what you’re doing,” he admonished. Not that he minded exactly, but it was hard enough trying to keep his urges under control—especially with the plans he had for tonight—but they couldn’t leave the reception yet. It would be rude to sneak out this early.

Giving him one more squeeze, Bailey stepped forward and grabbed his hand instead. “Come on, I want some ranch!”

Chuckling again, Kasim followed her to the ranch fountain.

She was loading up her plate when Fred, one of his pack members, came up with a question. Kasim was so busy chatting with him, he almost didn’t notice when Bailey stepped away—and not toward the food—toward another man. Kasim glanced at her and frowned when she took another step away from him. He couldn’t see her face.

“Bailey?”

Another step and Bailey reached out, grabbing the man by the shoulder. Kasim froze. She wouldn’t ignore him like this. Wouldn’t grab another man, a stranger, unless…

“You’re my mate!” Her voice was high and shocked and tinged with joy, and it cut through Kasim’s chest like a knife. Stabbing him couldn’t have been more painful.

He stepped back, rocked by the pain. In his head, his lion went wild, clawing to be let out, to get to their bunny, to sink his teeth into her, and claim her before this usurper could steal her.

But he wouldn’t be stealing her, would he? He was Bailey’s mate. The happy ending she’d insisted she wanted from the moment Kasim had met her. Kasim had been the one to tell her how unlikely it was—how unrealistic.

He’d thought she was just immature, ignorant—childishly hopeful for a fairy tale.

She’d been right all along.

Silently, Kasim stepped back and melted into the crowd, moving as quickly as he could. If he stayed there for one second longer, while Bailey and her newfound mate stared at each other, he wasn’t sure he’d be able to control his lion.

His lion roared with pain as he fled.

RHYS HUNTINGTON

I went to Las Vegas to marry my fiancée but ended up married to my best man instead. Considering I’m straight, I never imagined I would wake up in bed with a husband. We obviously need to get an annulment to undo our mistake. The only problem is, it turns out my feelings for my best friend Luci aren’t quite as platonic as I thought.

What are the odds that my bad idea ends up being the best thing to ever happen to us?

LUCIEN “LUCI” ST. AMOUR

After Rhys and I secretly shared our first kiss as teenagers, I spent years suppressing my confusing feelings for him. But now that he’s my husband, it exposes the truth about the depths of my love for my best friend.

Could I really be lucky enough that he feels the same way about me?

Bet on Love is the first book in the Good Bad Idea series. This novella features a friends to lovers second chance romance. Full of cute sweetness and sexy fun, every story ends with a satisfying HEA and no cliffhangers. Each book can be read as a standalone or as part of the series in order.

Excerpt:

Chapter 2: Rhys Huntington

I got flustered by the sight of the sheets dipping low on Luci’s hips, his dark hair falling in front of his handsome face. It was a rare treat for me to see him without his glasses on, but it really wasn’t the right time to appreciate that my best friend was attractive.

When he rubbed his eyes, my stomach lurched at the sight of Olivia’s wedding ring of two alternating rows of round and baguette diamonds on his ring finger. He had always hated how feminine his long, slim fingers were, and being nearly the same size as Olivia’s annoyed him almost as much as she resented it. I secretly thought his hands were beautifully elegant like a pianist’s, but the presence of my fiancée’s ring set off my rising panic. “What’s the last thing you remember?”

His bleary gaze focused on me with an effort. “Wait, why are you naked?”

“Why are you naked?” Another surge of foreboding flooded through me as a memory of Luci’s hands running down my bare spine to cup my ass flickered in my mind. “Lucien, what the fuck did we do last night?” I had progressed to freaking out, because I only used his full name when I was scared or serious.

Eyebrows drawing together in thought, he answered in a questioning tone, “We were celebrating your marriage?”

I was unprepared for being blindsided by remembering kissing Luci at the altar. To stop everything from spinning out, I pressed my palm my forehead to steady myself. “Please tell me we didn’t do what I think we did.”

His blue eyes were full of confusion as he looked at my wedding band, then lifted his hand to see he was wearing Olivia’s. He squinted at it before fumbling for his glasses on the nightstand. After a long look, his voice trembled when he said, “I don’t think I can.”

Katie May-Blindly Indicted

Blindly Indicted is Katie May’s entry into the Paranormal Prison shared world series. This is my first Katie May book, but it isn’t going to be my last one, because I liked what she did with Nina, Blade, Damien, Bronson, Cain, Abel, and Rion.

We open with Nina escaping from the horrible place where she has been held for her entire life. Not only has she been held there, she’s been tortured. And when I say torture, I mean pretty much daily since she was a young child. And terrible things like having the skin flayed off her back. Luckily, she was able to get away from there, and now she’s running. The problem with running? She’s blind, so it doesn’t matter that she memorized the route that she and Kai came up with. But, she has a power that not many people know of. She can slide into people’s minds and use their eyes to see. It doesn’t even have to be a person, she can also slide into the eyes of animals, which is how she’s been seeing to escape. But then, something happens, and the next time she’s aware, she’s being accused of murdering someone she’s never heard of. To cut to the chase, she ends up in prison, where they stick the political prisoners, the Labyrinth.

Then we have the Labyrinth. It’s basically split into two factions. One faction is the shifters, and the other side is led by Blade, along with his lieutenants, Bronson, a shadow wolf, Damien, a mage and assassin, Cain and Abel, who are twins. Cain is a sex demon and Abel is a trickster demon. Nina gets brought to the throne room, where she is presented to Blade, and all of a sudden, Nina manages to take a look at Blade and discovers that Blade is Kai, the man who was supposed to come back and rescue her, and the first love of her life. This is a total shock to everyone involved, and things happen. And did I mention that Blade is actually a dragon? Yeah.

So, I like Nina, but she’s really naive considering everything that she’s gone through. Then again, she’s been living in a locked cell in a torture compound for her entire life, so it’s not all that surprising that she’s naive. But she’s also really smart, I think, and she has a really good heart. She also sees things in people that no one else does and she gets people to see themselves the way that she sees them. I think that she makes a lot of changes in her world without necessarily trying to, she just does.

This is a reverse harem, but most of the sexual stuff happens one on one, without the other guys around. There are a couple of times when there are two of them, but mostly, Nina has a separate relationship with each of the guys, forming the true center of the group, including Rion, who yeah, I know I haven’t mentioned much. You will just have to read to find out more about him. While Blade and his dudes have formed this inner circle of a gang, they aren’t necessarily friends or even friendly with each other. They all recognize that they are strong, and that they are all stronger together, but that doesn’t mean that they are friends. I think that Nina changes that around. She makes them more of a family group, I think.

While I enjoy RH where everyone is getting busy as a group, I also like it this way. I don’t think this particular story would’ve worked as well if they were all in one big group at once.

maze-2264_640

I love Nina’s cat. I was very suspicious about it when he first showed up, but seems like a very nice kitty.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

Felicity Brandon-Daddy’s Game

Daddy’s Game is the last book in Jared and Sophie’s story. And I have to say, I totally adore what Felicity has done with their story and their ending. It really satisfied me in all the good ways. As this is the 3rd book in the trio, there is likely to be some spoilers. I will always try not to spoil anything, but you know it is, especially with how Felicity writes her books, where the action picks up in the new book exactly where the action ended in the last book.

So, we have Sophie trying to escape from Jared. She wants to get to her children, Billy and Lucy. When Jared stole her away, he took her from them, and she couldn’t get him to understand that she had to be with her kids. But, her escape attempt didn’t work. Jared caught her, and brought her back. And, as you might guess, Jared wasn’t best pleased that she had tried to get away from him. After all, everything he’s done has been for her, and he loves her.

So, Jared brings her home, and punishes her, because she didn’t listen. She tried to leave her Daddy’s safety, and she didn’t obey. All those things are bad things, and all those things make Jared unhappy. And making Jared unhappy is a very bad thing. Sophie finds that out because he uses some ginger on her and spanks her.

OK, here’s my thoughts on Jared. No, I still don’t like him. I think that he’s completely fucked up and his cheese done slipped cracker, left the kitchen, and is outside on the porch. I don’t think that he actually knows anything about love. I think he knows about obsession. I think he knows about possession. But love? No. He could probably find the word in the dictionary and read it, but I’m pretty sure that he wouldn’t understand it. He does understand fucking with people’s minds. He understands that part real well. He messes with Sophie’s mind so much. I think that’s his true goal. Yeah, he wants to own her entire body, but it’s more that he wants to own everything about her, especially her mind. And he’s willing to twist everything around her so that he can get into her head. I mean, he wants to get her submission, and I think that the only way he might totally get her submission is to twist her brain around so hard.

Sophie is incredibly strong, stubborn, and singleminded. She wants her kids, which means that she needs to get away from Jared. Her body may like some of what Jared is doing, but her mind doesn’t. She doesn’t want this. She tells him, but he doesn’t listen to her, not at all. So, after one unsuccessful escape attempt, she knows that she’s going to have to take her time and figure out what she needs to do. And not only is she going to have to figure out what to do, she’s also going to need to try not to actually lose herself while she’s doing it. I think that’s the hardest thing that Sophi has to do. It’s not to escape, which isn’t going to be easy. It’s going to be having to fight off Jared’s games while still looking like she’s playing his game and giving him what he wants.

I really loved this series. I loved being able to hate Jared. I kinda disliked Sophie at times, but I have to really admire her strength and determination. There’s a lot of grit in there, and I think that even with the short amount of time she was with Jared, that he knocked some of the stuff that hid that grit and made her stronger. I really like her in this one.

ginger-1714196_1920

I can’t even say how much I love the ending of this. I think that Jared learned some things that he needed to learn.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!
