Alta Hensley-Sinners & Gin

It’s been a minute since we got to have some top shelf booze from Alta. She’s decided to rectify that with Sinners & Gin. I’m not complaining or anything, I know that Alta had some life happening, and I’m always happy to get any book, whenever it comes out. So, yay! Let’s sit down with some gin and talk about this book.

So, we start back at Spiked Roses in NOLA. Matthew, who deals in a little bit of everything, has just had a big shipment of paintings stolen from him by a mafia boss. He’s not happy about having his paintings stolen, but that’s not the worst of it. Now, the worst of it is that each of those paintings had a metric shitload of diamonds behind them. Now Matthew is out the paintings and the diamonds, and he’s pissed AF. Which, really, can you blame him? I sure don’t. Anyway, he has a plan. He needs to talk to the other owners of Spiked Roses because he needs their help. He really doesn’t need them to do much, other than show up at this kitty party he knows about. The party is right up the guys’ alleys. It’s a kinky kitty party, with pretty subs dressed up as kitties.

Aria is at the party, but she’s trying to hide. You see, it’s her father’s party, and he would blow his top if he knew that she had snuck into his kitty party. So, she’s standing on the sidelines, dressed all sexy, wearing a kitten mask, sipping champagne, and just watching. Just as she’s about to leave, a mysterious man comes up to her and starts talking to her. Then he warns her that her dad is watching, and she had better act like she belongs at the party. Turns out it’s Matthew, who has been watching Aria, because she is the key to his plan to bring down her dad, who stole from Matthew.

Matthew’s plan is to take Aria and then ransom her back to her father for his paintings and diamonds. He sneaks her out through her bedroom window, wearing nothing but a robe, and being shot at by her father’s men.

Matthew is an idiot. I mean, just an outright idiot who needs to be smacked hard AF. He’s a smart idiot who’s sneaky and tricky, but he’s an idiot none the less. I think Tennessee should’ve given Aria a belt so that she could belt his ass, or at the very least, Tennessee should’ve done it. Maybe Matthew would’ve learned then. He doesn’t listen really well all the time either. I think he hears, but if what he hears doesn’t fit into his narrative, then he isn’t quite listening. I know it sounds like I don’t like him, but I kinda do. I think that he has a code that he sticks to. It’s not my code, but it works for him.

I like Aria. I feel sorry for her because she was stuck in that house with her father and she never got to live. Then she had to deal with Matthew being a pain in her ass and kidnapping her. But even as I felt sorry for her being trapped with her father, I decided that I admired her. She survived. That’s always the important thing, I think, surviving. She may have survived by having to hide away, but you know, whatever it takes.

I can’t wait for more of these books. I think that there is at least one more of the owners. I’d have to go check.

Eva Dresden-Destroyed

Destroyed is the 3rd book in Eva’s Omega Destruction series. The first two books have been pretty damn dark, and when I say dark, you know that I mean dark. But so good. So, so, so good. And the last one is no different. Eva took everything from the other books and built it into something that is just intense and perfect. It has its moments when it’s dark, but as is often the case with a trilogy, it does get a bit lighter as it goes. Just to warn you, there is likely to be spoilers from the other books, just because of the way that they were left.

So, here’s where we are. Quinn and Tobias are living in their house with their 2 beautiful children, as well as their staff. Tobias is still trying to get Quinn pregnant and forcing her to take fertility meds. They aren’t quite taking yet, and they are making her sick. She can’t keep anything down, can’t stay awake, and is just incredibly miserable. She keeps telling Tobias how sick she is, but he doesn’t just quite believe her.

She’s also struggling against the bond that he made her form with him. She’s fighting against having his feelings in her heart and head all the time. She keeps fighting because she feels like she isn’t fighting for her life, she’s fighting for her very self. And it’s hard, so hard on her to do it. Especially since she’s fighting herself almost as much as she’s fighting him.

I think that about 1/2 of the problems that Quinn and Tobias had in this book would have been solved with better communication skills. If they had stopped and talked about some of their issues, I think that they would’ve been happier sooner, and I think that some of the other issues would’ve been figured out sooner or not even able to form.

At one point, Quinn does something that makes Tobias understand some of what she’s been feeling in her life, and I think that gives him an epiphany. He really is a typical Alpha, and I mean, not only is he an Alpha, he’s the Alpha-iest Alpha around. He is so positive that he knows what’s best and he knows everything, and he will really just roll over everyone in his way. He may hear what Quinn is saying, but he isn’t really listening to what she is saying. She needs to get his attention to get him to listen to what she’s saying. She needs to smack him upside the head with a cluex4. Smacking him with the cluex4 makes him slow down, shut up, and actually focus enough for her to get him to listen. Of course, this is all metaphorical, and it had to happen a couple of times, to truly get her point across, but it eventually got there.

I also think that Quinn could’ve backed down a little bit more when it came to her fight. I totally get wanting to have her independence and not wanting to lose her sense of self in Tobias, but I think that if she had loosened up just a little, things would’ve been better.

I’d like to get a novella sometime in the future that is all about the Kahlers in the future. I want to see how everyone presented, and Tobias and Quinn as they age.

Renee Rose-Alpha Knight

Alpha Knight is the second book in Renee’s Wolf Ridge High books. These books are a spinoff of the Alpha Badboys books that she and Lee Savino wrote. Instead of taking place in Tucson, they take place in a small town that is primarily wolves, named, interestingly enough, Wolf Ridge.

Here’s our story today. Bo is a senior at Wolf Ridge, he’s a member of the football team, and works in his uncle’s auto shop along with his older brother Winslow. Bo is one of the Alpha-holes at school, but he generally stays on the straight and narrow. Then we have Sloane. She lives in the next town over, the one that is generally a little richer and a lot snobbier. She’s new to AZ. Her father was arrested for embezzlement and sent to jail, and all of the money and possessions are gone now. The one thing that isn’t gone is the debt.

See, her dad was in with some mobsters, and they want the money from her. Of course, she doesn’t have it, but she’s going to do what she can to get it. So, she starts stealing cars. Of course, then she has to figure out how to get rid of the cars. Enter Winslow. Unlike his little brother, he’s not on the straight and narrow. In fact, he’s a right prick and has been up to no good before. But now, he’s going to help Sloane fence the cars. Which doesn’t work the way that she really wants it to. For one thing, Winslow ends up shot and missing and with her money. And for another, it ends up with Bo pretending to be her long-distance boyfriend come to visit. And with both of them pretty much at each other’s throats.

I think that Sloane was very resourceful. She kept trying to do what she could so that she could keep herself and her family, especially her little cousin. I don’t recommend turning to stealing cars and fencing them off, but I applaud her initiative. She could’ve just wallowed around throwing her hands up and giving up, but she used what talents she had and did what she could.

Bo is an asshole, but I don’t think that he was as huge an asshole as he could be. I think that he has a really good heart, and a huge protective streak. As a shifter, he may not necessarily plan on protecting humans, but he does have that streak there. I think that he’s way too charming for words, and he does charm Sloane’s aunt really well.

Anthology-Black Light: Roulette War

We just had Valentine’s Day, which means it’s time for the annual Roulette book from Black Light. Black Light: Roulette War is the 4th Roulette book, and the start of a new Black Light season. The first two books took place at the only Black Light at the time, the original in DC. Last year’s book took place in Black Light West, and featured celebrities. This one takes place in both clubs.

Now, I was lucky enough to get to read an ARC, and I was so thrilled to read it. I mean, the Roulette books are always great and always kink AF. But do you know what those mean authors did? They didn’t tell us ARC readers who won! How mean is that? LOL. I mean, really, when it comes down to it, we’re the real winners, so I guess I can’t complain too much.

So, here’s how the story goes. Spencer, the DM for BL East, is at BL West with his wife, Klara. While they are there, Spencer decides to start some shit with Elijah, the DM at BL West. Now, we all know that shit-talking happens, especially among friends and co-workers, which Spencer and Elijah are. But sometimes it gets way out of control, which happened here. Spencer, who can get a little over sometimes, got a little over, and it escalated to the point where the guys are arguing over who is going to have the best ever Roulette. They finally get to a point where they place a bet on it, with Chase and Jaxon acting as judges. (Which pisses them off for reasons.)

We get the stories of 4 couples from each of the clubs. You can judge which one is the hottest for yourself, and which one you think should be the winner. Then you can find out which one the authors thought should win, andI’ll never tell. Ever.

Black Light East

Renee Rose-Prelude

Renee’s story is all about Ravil and Lucy, Master R and Lady Luck. He’s a member of the bratva, she’s a lawyer. She’s all about control, but she’s the sub today, and Ravil isn’t about to give her any control. The thing that I really liked about Renee’s story is that we get to see how much Ravil’s plan is to get inside Lucy’s head, and how quickly he does that. It’s like there is a trapdoor only he has. And it looks like Prelude is the perfect name for this one, and I’m really happy about that.

Eris Adderly-Breathless

This is Eris’ intro into the BL world, (other than the fact that all the covers are hers) and damn, did she hit the road running. Breath play really isn’t my kink at all, it’s a personal hard limit, but the way that Eris wrote about it? Holeeee fuck. And the latex with the gloves? Woooooowwwwww. Violet and Anson were one of my favorite characters.  That put everything over the top. Eris writes kink in such a good way. And she didn’t step back from Anson’s issues while she was writing him, and I thought that was interesting. (Also, can you find the Lit easter egg?)

Kay Elle Parker-Burn

Kay Elle s another newbie to BL. If you’ve followed the blog for a while, you’ve seen me review some of her stuff, and I’m absolutely in love with her books, so I was glad to see her here. I’m hoping that this means she’ll get to do a full book at some point. This is the story of Finn and Ava. I really adore Ava. She’s been through so much, but she was really strong, and Finn challenged her in just the right way. And the fisting and the trust? Wow.

Golden Angel-Inflamed

Golden wrote a full length BL Daddy book last year, and in that book we met Elliot. He gets to play with Lisa, who is excited to play with him, but he’s not all that excited to play with her. He thinks she’s manipulative. They have an incredibly hot scene. And by hot, I mean seriously hot. He sets her on fire. Fire flogging is a thing. Fantastic. I thought the way that Lisa chose her hard limits was hilarious. One of their scenes is something that lives in my head, so yeah, that was so hot.

Black Light West

And now, just as the event at Black Light East is ending, we’re gearing up for Black Light West to get started.

Jennifer Bene-Wicked

Jennifer is one of the original BL writers and is a total staple in Roulette. Her story gives us Pierce and Baby, whose real name is Tori. Tori is a little and Pierce is totally not a Daddy. He’s pretty fucking hardcore, and he really loves humiliation, so the fact that they rolled that works for him. I’m telling you, Roulette makes for interesting play partners and scenes. That scene is hot, but the face fucking that happens is just amazing. I always look forward to Jennifer’s stories because of the touches like that.

Sue Lyndon-Trained

Sue wrote a fun little story with Daddy Xavier and his Dolly, Rachel. Their first roll was pet play, and she made an adorable kitten. You know, one of the things I really liked about Sue’s story is that it is very sweet and it is truly lovely. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still sexy AF and Rachel and Xavier have a great connection, it’s just also low angst and low drama, just the perfect touch for the book.

Measha Stone-Unexpected

Measha’s story has Jack and Quinn. Quinn is new to LA and is looking for new people to play with, so Roulette. Where she gets Jack, and oh yeah, diaper play. Which is totally not what she wants. Jack is actually perfect for her. I love how he gets into her head so much and how she teaches Quinn so much about herself.

Livia Grant-Facade

Livia finishes out this year’s Roulette with her story about Sean and Stephanie AKA Karly Starr, former porn star. Stephanie has come to Black Light because she wants someone who will fuck her silly, without playing any of those silly BDSM games, but she signed up for Roulette, and Sean is going to make her play. These are two words I never thought that I would say on this blog: spontaneous fisting. And the breath play? Siiiiiigggghhhhh. I think that Facade is a really great title for this one.

OK, there you go. Eight fantastically kinky stories by 8 fantastic authors. When you read the book and get to find out who the winner is, you get some great 3 way sex with Emma, Jax, and Chase. Yay!

I’m already looking forward to next year’s Roulette, a whole year from now. I’d love to see an Mm, Fm, or Ff couple in the upcoming season some time, but I’ll be perfectly happy however the authors end up writing their books, so it’s all good.
