Leann Ryans-Bear’s Honor

So, Leann has written another one of her barbarian Omergaverse books. Bear’s Honor is the second one in the series, and it is an enjoyable read. Leann tends to write on the lighter end of the ‘verse, and this one fits right into her groove.

So, Rune is another of the Omegas that Raider’s people stole from their village. She is living with the other Omegas in Raider and Lyric’s house while they are trying to figure out who they are going to mate. The other unattached Omegas aren’t having any problems, but Rune is. She likes the quiet and likes to be left alone. But sadly, that doesn’t get to happen. All the Omegas have to be escorted everywhere they are going, because there are only 3 of them and a whoooooooole lot of Alphas. Plus, they don’t know the language of their new village well, if at all. Rune doesn’t think that she’s going to be anyone’s first choice, because she’s not a dainty little Omega like some of the others, so she’s perfectly happy to be by herself and away from everyone. She makes it to the healer’s house and the healer offers to train her to be the next healer.

Meanwhile, Bear, Raider’s Second, has sworn that he isn’t going to take an Omega, but then there’s Rune. There’s just something about her that really attracts him to her, but he doesn’t want the rest of the tribe to think that he’s taking advantage of being the Second by taking one of the 3 unmated Omegas, so he has sworn on his honor to not do it. Idiot.

One day, when going to the market for the healer, Rune is accosted by an Alpha who tries to drag her away to his house. He won’t listen to her when she tells him no, so she tells him that she’s chosen Bear to be her mate. Bear makes her feel safe, and she feels drawn to him, so she’s pretty sure that’s all good. Except, Bear doesn’t know, and when he’s told that by other Alphas, he denies being chosen by her, which causes problems. So, to fix it, Rune calls for an old tradition to be put back into place. It allows everyone to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt who should be mated.

Bear really is an honorable man, but an honorable idiot. A big idiot. Everyone tells him how much of an idiot he is, and he just passes over it and tells everyone that he’s being honorable. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for honor and all, but he’s one of those that take it 50 steps too far. He’s a good man though, a really good man. He does everything that he can to make sure that his people are taken care of and is very responsible. If I were Raider, Bear would absolutely be the person that I would choose to be my Second.

Then we have Rune. I like her a lot. I totally get the wanting to be left alone a lot of the time, because I’m like that too. Too many people and my brain melts down. She doesn’t think much of herself, but she’s had her brother in her ear for years telling her that she’s not worth much, so of course she doesn’t think that. I, however, think that she’s worth a lot. She’s smart and caring. She is a quick learner too, I think. She’s just an all around nice person.

Amara is tricksy as hell, and I absolutely love her.
