Measha Stone-Indebted Heart

Indebted Heart is the 3rd book in Measha’s Windy City series. This is a series that centers around a friend group. So far, we’ve seen Kelly pair off with Kendrick and Jessica pair off with Royce. Now it’s Alex’s turn.

Alex is kind of the big brother of everyone in the group. He’s good friends with Jessica, Kelly, and Erin, and now their significant others. He wanted to have a little bit more with Jessica, but she wasn’t having it. He is in advertising and hates it. He is also part owner of kink club, called Top Floor. None of his friends know about it, well, except for Kendrick, who runs security for it, but he’s not telling anyone. So, he’s working 2 jobs, and living 2 lives. Then there’s his dad, Paul. He and his dad are really close, and his dad has been sick. But Paul also wants Alex to do a favor for him. He wants Alex to show around Alyssa, who he says is a daughter of a friend, who has always lived in a small town, but is now moving to Chicago.

Then there’s Alyssa. Sure, she’s lived in a relatively small town near St. Louis, but she’s not sheltered. She’s had to take care of herself for a long time, and among other things, she’s found out that she’s a sub. Her first Dom, and current friend, knows this guy named Bradley who owns and manages a kink club called Top Floor, and he arranges an interview with Alyssa to be a waitress. While she’s there interviewing, a guy rushes into the interview, and then ends up leaving.

When it’s time for Alyssa and Alex to meet, it turns out that they met at the interview. Because of course they did.

I like Alex, most of the time. I do think that there are times he’s a little hypocritical, in a do as I say and not as I do kind of way. Alyssa does call him on it, which good for her. But again, he kind of tells her that it’s OK for him but it’s not for her. See, hypocrite. There were reasons why Alyssa made the choices that she did.

Alyssa is seriously independent. She’s had to be over the years. That independence is both good and bad. She’s also stubborn AF, which is also good and bad. When you combine them, you get a woman who has to fight, no matter what. The thing is, she fights even when she knows that she shouldn’t be. Fighting is just her default. When that is your default, it’s really hard to get past it. And it’s been her default for most of her life. Alyssa was doing some hard things, and she felt that she had very good reasons to do what she did. I don’t agree with her reasons, but they were really important to her, and I can understand why she made those choices.

I love Paul, Alex’s dad. He is a good man. He’s a good man who has made mistakes, but who hasn’t? He owned his mistakes and he did what he could to make things better. To me, that is a really good man. A better man than someone who has never made any mistakes or who has never owned up to them. I think that Alex could do a whole lot worse than to grow up like his dad.

I can’t wait to see what happens with Erin. I’m betting her story is next.

Grace Goodwin-Viken Command

Back into space we go with Grace and her Interstellar Bride Program with Viken Command. Today, instead of going to a Battlegroup, we are going to the planet Viken, where good things come in threes.

The planet Viken is separated off into 3 sectors, and after the triplet kings, who were each brought up in a different sector, got together with their mate, the trend has been for each mating to involve a male from each sector to one female. And it’s this world which Whitney has been matched to, and is looking forward to going to.

We meet Whitney right as her bride testing has finished up. She gets a little salty with Warden Egara because she really wanted to have an orgasm and she didn’t get it. I’d be salty too, you know? Whitney also askes Egara a lot of questions, which she answers. I’m glad Whitney did ask, because I’ve been curious about some of those questions. Anyway, Whitney volunteered for the IBP because her family pulled a huge Ponzi scheme. She wasn’t involved in it and she worked really hard to avoid all the drama, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t painted with the same brush. She got dragged in by the cops and questioned, and no one really trusted her anymore. So, she’s going to get the fuck off Earth, and she’s not into fighting, so being a bride and meeting her perfect match sounds like the way to go to her. So, off to Warden Egara and the testing center she goes, has one super hot dream, and then gets sent to Viken.

Alarr, her matched mate, and his partners Oran and Teig, are currently on Viken. Not just on Viken, but at a fancy resort where newly mated people go, working as guards. It sounds like it would be perfect, and it kind of is, but that’s not their real job. Their real job is working for Intelligence for the Coalition fleet. Someone is stealing and selling Coalition weapons, and it’s been tracked to this resort. So, the guys go, because they are Viken. But then, Alarr gets matched and his bride is on his way. When he tries to tell Helion, his commander, Helion tells him that he has to stay at the job, no matter what, and having a new mate coming in will just be even better cover. Yeah.

I’m going to just say how much I hate Helion. I’ve never really liked him at all, and the more we see him, the less I like him. I just want Prime Niall to pound him into the ground with a huge ass hammer. I wonder if Grace would do that for me. I would be so thrilled.

Anyway, I felt sorry for Whitney. She wanted to have someone to love her and make her the most important person in their life, and sometimes it looks like the boys are going to do it and sometimes it doesn’t. It keeps her a little off balance, and considering that she’s already off balance just by being on a new world and after everything that’s happened, she doesn’t need anything else to cause her to have problems.

I like the guys. They are all honorable guys, who are just pulled in 2 directions. Both the job and Whitney are important, and they are kind of put in a bad place so that they have to choose the way they do, even if they don’t want to choose that. (I hate Helion. It bears repeating.) They aren’t walking an easy path.

I am looking forward to finding out more about Zeus, the half human/half Prillon warrior who is the head of the new Battlegroup. I bet there is a helluva story there.

OK, that’s all for today! Go check it out! Happy reading!

Renee Rose-Dead Man’s Hand

If you’ve missed the Tacones, you can now be put out of your misery. Renee has taken mercy on us, and released Dead Man’s Hand. This is Gio and Marissa’s story.

So, back a couple of books ago, the Tacones were supposed to be meeting the Bratva in a local cafe, one that the Tacone family has used over the years. Only this time, it wasn’t as easy a meeting as it could’ve been. No, it was an ambush, and the Bratva tried to kill all the Tacones. Most of the Tacones made it safely, but Gio got shot. Now he’s better, at least physically, but he doesn’t know what he’s alive for, he’s dealing with PTSD, and he’s having nightmares every night, and sometimes, the woman at the cafe, Marissa, is the one who gets shot and even killed.

Marissa’s family has owned a lovely little cafe for years. She’s helping her grandparents keep the cafe going as well as working at a restaurant. She’s working every chance she can, and it’s wearing her thin. But then, her little cousin Mia needs a $30K operation, and they need the money right then and there because they don’t have insurance. So Marissa turns to Gio to get the necessary money. And that starts a wonderful chain of events. Well, some wonderful and some terrible. But things happen.

Marissa and Gio are both broken people, for different reasons. Their brokenness shows up in different ways. In Marissa, it causes her to not trust anyone. She’s afraid of what will happen if she does trust them. That frustrates Gio, because he wants her to trust him, and she takes 2 steps back for every one she takes toward him. Of course, she’s torn between what’s going on with Gio and her family, which isn’t a nice place to be.

Part of Gio’s problem is that the family has changed what it’s doing, which means he doesn’t know who he is in context to what he’s always done with his family. That part right there leaves him confused and not sure what to do, and then add in the PTSD from the shooting, and you get all kinds of confusion. Luckily, he has Nico who can help him get some stuff straight. And Marissa kinda smacks people around for him when necessary.

I’m really looking forward to Paolo’s story. I think that he’s the last of the Tacone children to get into a relationship. I’ll have to doublecheck to be sure.

Dead_man's_hand

The scene when Gio teaches Marissa and Mia to play poker is cute af.

I really don’t care for Marissa’s Nonno.

OK, that’s all there is for today. Go check this out, as well as all of Renee’s other books. Happy reading!

Jeanne St. James-Crossing the Line Preorder Blitz!

Crossing The Line: A Dirty Angels MC/Blue Avengers MC Crossover by Jeanne St. James releases on November 2nd!

When the wrong man turns out to be the right one…

Nash, a longtime Dirty Angels MC member and lead singer of Dirty Deeds, has a secret. For years, he’s hidden his bisexuality from his brothers, fellow bikers, worried how they’d take the news. But Nash isn’t the only one keeping secrets from his brotherhood. So is Cross, a police officer and member of the Blue Avengers MC.

As opposite as they come, when Cross spots Nash across the bar, he can’t resist the unexpected attraction. Then lines are crossed, boundaries blurred. And they need to survive in two different worlds where men who like other men aren’t usually accepted, and where bikers and cops don’t mix.

Reality and fantasy are two different things. The fantasy being Cross and Nash can be together, that they can make it work. The reality being their situation is impossible. Cross will never give up being a cop. Nash will never give up being a biker. What either of them would have to walk away from is more than anyone should ask for. In the end, fighting reality could be a losing battle in a war they might never win.

Note: A standalone, Crossing the Line is a crossover gay romance involving a member of the Dirty Angels MC and one from the Blue Avengers MC. It includes forbidden love, enemies to lovers, cop vs biker, alpha vs alpha. As with all my books, it has no cliffhanger and an HEA.

About Maddie

A USA Today and #1 international bestselling author, Maddie is a lifelong reader who became a romance junkie as a teen with her first romance novel, The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss. From then on, she was hooked, and gobbled up everything she could get her hands on, whether contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi. If there was romance to be found between a strong alpha male, and a sassy, adventurous and ofttimes defiant yet loving woman, Maddie was all over it. As an author, she stays true to those themes writing steamy erotic romance, with a side of kink, and adding elements of intrigue, danger and suspense to her plots.

Maddie started writing as a hobby. Her stories stayed private while she raised a family and worked full time as a registered nurse. It wasn’t until 2012 that she decided to take the plunge and submit her first book for publication: Captain My Captain. She went on to publish eleven novels the first year.

Tabitha Black-Primal Mate

Tabitha has come out with the second book in her Alphas of Sandor series, Primal Mate. It’s an Omegaverse book, and is on the lighter side of the spectrum. It’s also a huge honor for me, because Tabitha named her after yours truly. I mean, how awesome is that? I told my mom about it, and she was like, yay? She wasn’t sure if she should be happy for me or not. Definitely happy. Very definitely. I was walking on Cloud 10 for days. My husband laughed at me. Oh well. It’s a great story and I am just so honored that Tabitha took me and put me in her book.

So, Clara is an Omega. Her father is a powerful man in the city, and she has been living as an Alpha. Her father doesn’t know that she’s an Omega, she and her mother hid it. So, for the last several years, she’s been taking suppressants and pretending to be an Alpha. She’s done all kinds of practicing on everything from how she looks at people to how she walks, that it’s all second nature and so that no one will ever doubt her. She even goes to the market nights at the local Omega Facility so that it looks like she’s looking for her perfect Omega mate. Well, one night she goes to the market night, and she certainly finds something. It’s just not what she would expect.

Meanwhile, we have Evander, best friend of Arius, the king of Sandor, and rather cheerful Alpha. He knows Clara, as pretty much everyone in society knows each other, and he sees her at the latest market night. When he talks to her, he notices that he smells something, he smells his mate. So he goes looking for her, only to come back to discover it’s Clara, which makes no kind of sense at all.

Clara is incredibly independent. She works very, very hard to try to please her father, who is a prick. She works really hard at her medical research. She wants to continue to be independent and continue her work, which she really loves. She wants nothing to do with being an Omega. It’s not who she is, it’s not what she is, and she is kind of resentful about being one, not that she can really control her dynamic that way. So she is not necessarily all that happy with Evander, not at all.

Evander, on the other hand, is pretty thrilled. He has been looking for his mate for years and years. And the fact that Arius has found his in Saskia and is incredibly happy has just shown Evander that it can happen, and he really wants that. So when he finds Clara, he’s just super thrilled, and he totally expects that she will be too.

I really like that Tabitha shows the differences between Clara’s expectations and Evander’s expectations. They both come from the same rung of society, and she’s been living as an Alpha, so she would have roughly the same kind of experiences, but their expectations of what would happen when they found their mate, if they found their mate, if they wanted their mate, were quite different. Really fascinating.

I think that Clara’s father’s name, Neros, is really interesting. I mean, I know about Nero, the emperor of Rome, and the crazy that was him, so I have to wonder if Neros is supposed to hail back to Nero.

lamborghini-huracan-3080405_1920

I hated Clara’s father from the very first time she talked about him. It sounded like he would just be a total jackass.

Funny thing, in the book, Clara drives a green car. In real life, I have a green car. I don’t know if I had talked about the green car where Tabitha would’ve known about it, because I didn’t have it on a permanent basis until the beginning of this past month. And it’s close to that color green too. It made me laugh when I read that part.

OK, that’s all I have to say on this one. Definitely go read it! Happy reading!
