Anthology-Something Wicked

By the pricking of my thumbs, Something Wicked this way comes. -Second witch Macbeth, Act 4 , scene 1

This anthology is made up of 14 stories by 14 authors, some new to me, some not. They are all a version of a fairy tale, but definitely not the ones that you know. They aren’t friendly. They aren’t happy. If there is whistling and singing going on in these stories, be sure that it’s not the good guy doing it. I will say that most of the stories have an ending that could be considered happy, for a given definition of happy, and for some particular people, but I’m not really sure that I would call them HEAs.

Usually, when I get an anthology that’s more than 8 or so stories, I only mention my faves, just because it can get long, and ain’t no one got time to read a super long review, let alone write one. However, I feel the urge to give you my reactions on all of them. I don’t think it will add too many words to do that.

Missy Ann-Forbidden Queen

New to me author. Wow. I honestly didn’t expect the direction the story went. I mean, I figured for a twist, but this was a whole Mobius strip of a twist.

B. Celeste-Within These Shadows

Another new to me author. This was… disturbing in really disturbing ways. Good ways, but yeah. I would love to find out more of this world. I love the protagonist and the way that their POV was done.

Elizabeth Cash-Bittersweet Beauty

This is a prequel or intro or something like that. There is going to be more to this story, which makes me happy, because I need more of Beck, Bishop, and Jax.

A. A. Davies-Dama de Diablo

New author to me. Appropriate title. ‘Nuff said.

Anna Edwards-The Toy

Damn you, Anna. Just damn you. I really think that I want to hate you, but I’m pretty sure that I can’t because it was too good! That end, though.

Emery Leeann-Bite Me: The Cursed Evil Queen

Another new to me author. With some of the stories, it was easy to tell what the story was. It wasn’t in this one. When I found out who the person was before they are the person that they are now? Blew me away.

K. S. Marshall-The Deadly Hunt

Lots of new to me authors in this one. I honestly thought that this was going to go another way. It’s still living in my head and I’m trying to figure out some of it in my head.

Claire Marta-The Wish

I wish that Claire would write faster. I’m not sure who I trust in this story, but I can’t wait to find out what’s going on.

C.L. Matthews-The Underneath

This might be the least dark story in the entire anthology. I loved it.

TL Mayhew-Wicked Lady T

I think that I may have read some of Mayhew’s other stuff, but the consequence of reading so many books is that I sometimes forget who and what I’ve read. This might be the second least dark story. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Michelle Pace-Nights on the Round Table

I love the Arthurian tales. I can tell you most of them backwards and forwards and I know all about the various knights. This is not the Arthurian tale that you expect.

Michelle Brown-Unfortunate Souls

I was lucky enough to be one of the people who got an ARC of Michelle’s first book, and I’ve enjoyed watching her grow. Her short stories are wicked AF, and this one is no different. Amazing spin on her tale.

Ally Vance-Hellfire

I had a Disney song running through my head the entire time I read this, which is kinda weird, considering the tone of the story, but what can I say? I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens with the rest of the story.

Murphy Wallace-Prick

I love the whole Sleeping Beauty/Maleficient theme in general, and the take on the story in this one is fabulous.

I can normally pick which ones are my favorite, but I think that with each of these stories I found a new favorite. They are all twisted and dark and disturbing and wonderful and all the things that I happen to like when I’m reading. The anthology is really short for an anthology. Some of the stories are really short, and they are all pretty quick to read. That’s one of my favorite things about anthologies, the fact that many of the stories are pretty quick to read and that I can pick them up and put them down without losing the thread.

Ava Sinclair-Cry for Daddy

First of all, I’d like to apologize for my radio silence. I’m getting over a miserable cold, and I’m 5 days away from a move. There’s much going on in Clara-land, and trying to get everything going means that something falls by the way sometimes. So, if you’ll bear with me for a few days, I’d be ever so grateful.

So, for today, we have Ava’s latest Daddy book. Cry For Daddy is a darker book than some of the others that Ava has written, at least when it starts out. It has some really difficult moments in it, as well as some sad ones.

Maisie grew up in foster care. Her life wasn’t happy, and good things didn’t happen to her. Now she’s aged out of the system and living in a house with another young woman. One she’s never spoken to, really. When they talk, they do it by note, except for once. She works in a crappy restaurant where she’s a waitress and scrapes a living. But, when she’s not at work, she shoplifts or picks pockets. That little bit of thievery gives her the feel of control, even if she doesn’t really have a lot of control or power in her life.

What Maisie doesn’t know is that there is a man following her. He knows her every move. He knows her entire history from birth up to the current moment. He may even know her better than she knows herself at this point. He is obsessed with her, and he has plans for her. She doesn’t know yet, but he’s going to be her Daddy and take such good care of her. The best care of her ever.

I love the way that Ava did this. We don’t know his name. All we know is that he’s following her. I love that the chapters from his POV early in the book give us no clue about him at all. We just see him following Maisie and his inner dialogue is all about her and what he already knows about her and what more he is learning about her. It’s kind of a mindfuck, really, the way that it’s written. And it’s so totally fucking awesome.

I like Maisie mostly. I can relate a lot to her in a lot of ways. That always makes a book feel so much more real to me. I like feeling that intense connection to a character sometimes. I don’t need it all the time, and in fact, I couldn’t handle that kind of connection in every book. It would probably rub my insides raw, but in those books where it does happen? Wow. And this definitely was a wow.

There were parts that made me quite angry. I mean, I wanted to walk into the book and smack Daddy. There were times that I really think that he deserved it too.

view-4011285_1920

Normally I wouldn’t put a discussion about the title in my spoiler section, but I think that this is the right place for it. It’s the kind of wordplay that I really like in a title, and there are so many ways that the phrase cry for Daddy can be taken. I love that it’s all in the eye of the reader.

OK, that’s all for this one. I highly recommend that you go check it out. Happy reading!

No blog today…

I’m prepping for a move next week and I feel crappy today, so no blog today. Have some eye candy though.

Golden Angel-Defended

The 13th book in the Black Light world is a new one for the world. We’ve brushed up against the DD/lg kink a couple of times in the Roulette books, but never a full-on Daddy book, until now, with Defended.

Here’s our story. Melody, a sweet, loving person, has been arrested because when the cops busted into the party that she was at, someone took advantage of the fact that her purse was laying around, unsupervised, and dropped some drugs into it before the cops got there. When she handed her purse over to be searched, the cops find the drugs and arrest her. Now, she’s in court, waiting to see if she’s going to end up going to jail. Luckily for Melody, Kawan Park exists.

And why is this lucky for her? Well, Kawan is a high-powered lawyer, and he’s pretty much demolishing the cop who arrested her. In fact, he demolishes the man so much that the judge drops the charges and our plucky heroine gets to go free. So, yay for Kawan!

Kawan is a new lawyer working at the firm that represents Black Light. Because of that, he gets to be a member, which is great for him, because he’s a Daddy Dom. We know this law firm because 2 of the partners, Connor and Alexander, have shown up in their own Roulette stories. In fact, Jennifer Bene wrote Alexander and Sienna’s story in the first Roulette, Wet. Fantastic story. Anyway, I digress. Kawan has just moved to DC to join their firm because he had to get away from where he was living. He had a terrible break up with a nasty woman who he thought would be his little girl forever, but Krissy just wasn’t all that nice.

So, on his first trip to Black Light, he looks up and who do you think he sees? That’s right, he sees Melody. Melody’s roommate Peggy (booooooo hisssssss) has a boyfriend named Elliot. Elliot is a Domly type, and he has brought Peggy to the club to play, and Melody came with them. It’s a celebration for Melody not going to jail. When Melody notices Kawan, she drops to the floor, trying to hide. Which causes Peggy to laugh, Elliot to get mad (at Peggy), and Kawan to get protective.

I really like Melody. She really is just a sweet person with a truly lovely soul. She just wants to make everyone happy around her. I would really love to be around her, because she just seems like she would be a joy. She’s also wicked smart. She’s a PhD in science, trying to do something about diabetes and mental health in reference to gut microbes. So, she looks at a lot of smears under microscopes. But the reason that she went into this particular field is because of her mother. So, see, sweet and loving and wanting to make everyone happy.

Kawan is a good man. He really is honorable and just a decent guy. He really wants to have a little girl that he can love and take care of and spoil senseless. And spank, but that’s kind of a given, considering he’s a Daddy. I think that he also has a little bit of a hero complex going on. Not a big one, just a little bit.

Then there is Peggy. I pretty much hate, despise, and loathe Peggy. I didn’t like her from the very first word that the woman utters. Melody spends way too much time managing her and tiptoeing around her. Peggy needs to grow the fuck up.

analysis-2030265_1920

I love how Melody lays the smackdown on Peggy. It was totally awesome, and I cheered for her.

OK, that’s all for today! Go check out the entire Black Light world! Happy reading!

Loki Renard-Seeded

Seeded is a fun and filthy little story. It takes in the far future, one where the history is even crazier than our present. It’s a RH/menage kind of story, and there are definitely some interesting goings-on.

So, Lyra has worked really, really, really hard to get her job. She orbits the earth in a shuttle, doing all kinds of surveillance and such like. Then, she sees an anomaly out in space, so, being the curious sort, she goes off to investigate it. And that’s when everything changes.

You see, the mysterious anomaly is a spaceship called Virility. The crew of the Virility is all about breeding. They are out to inseminate as many species as possible. The goal is to make an ideal species that is a mix of everyone. And not only are they out there inseminating species, they are also inseminating space itself. Lots of fucking going on here.

They haven’t kept any of the women, at least until Lyra. Then again, none of the other women have tried to crash their ship right into the Virility. Talon, the captain of the ship, sees something about her and decides that he is going to keep her. But, of course it ain’t that easy. Lyra is bound and determined to get back to Earth, and she’s going to do everything she can to get there, including sabotaging things. Doing that brings her to the attention of Shank, the disciplinarian of the ship, and she gets punished for her transgressions. Then she meets Luca, who looks pretty human, and they become very friendly. Very, very friendly, if you catch what I’m pitching.

There is some fantastic fucking going on in this story. There’s also a chunk of humor in here. I spent some time just laughing my ass off. There were also times that were really sad. I did have tears going on when I read it.

I like that each guy met a need in Lyra, and she met a need each of the guys had. It is a really good relationship for everyone. I definitely think that she should be the captain of the ship though. It was pretty funny when she kept telling Talon that. And Major Tom? I’m a huge Bowie fan, so I had Space Oddity in my head after meeting that.

This is not one of Loki’s darker reads, but it is definitely worth it.

Depositphotos_19099781_xl-2015

The void monster thingie is really fascinating. And so is Lyra’s solution.

I don’t know whether I like before Lyra or after Lyra most. There are definitely differences and similarities in there.

OK, that’s all for today! Go check it out and happy reading!

Alta Hensley-The Truth About Cinder

Have you ever wanted a fairy tale that took place in a post-apocalyptic world where most everywhere in the world has dried up and water is more precious than gold? If you have, then Alta has the perfect story for you, The Truth About Cinder. As you might be able to guess from the name, this is the story of Sleeping Beauty. OK, it’s a dark, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, kinky version of Cinderella. And I gotta tell you, I much prefer Alta’s version over the Brothers Grimm’s version. More sex and spanking, for one thing.

So, pretty much all the water has dried up. There are a few places where water can still be found, and in those areas, communes have sprung up where people live. The communes aren’t very pleasant places. They are really just surviving, and you know how people are when they are in that kind of mindset, so just imagine how nasty the people were in some of those communes. Think something like Mad Max or Tank Girl. Outside of the communes, the rest of the world is a desert, with no plants, no animals, no nothing.

Into this desperate, desiccated world trudges Cinder. She left the commune she was born into, and has stayed here and there at various communes on her journey. She has an ultimate goal in her journey, and it has taken her quite a while to get to it. She is going to the Palace of Lazar. She wants to join the harem there. Everyone says that it is just a myth, but she knows deep in her soul that Lazar exists and she’s going to get there. It isn’t an easy journey, by any means, but it is worth it for Cinder. In fact, for Cinder, it’s so worth it that she nearly dies on her journey.

But when she wakes, she discovers that she has made it to Lazar, and a gorgeous man is there in front of her, telling her that she has made it and if she meets the requirements, she can join the harem. Donte is the man, and he tells her that if she doesn’t behave, he’ll be in charge of punishing her. He stands there while she’s examined to see if she’s a virgin then takes her to the baths and watches as she is groomed, and all her body hair is removed. Cinder is all about having him there, as she is drawn to him and he makes her feel safe.

Months go on, and Cinder is happy in the harem and being trained, but of course, nothing stays the same, and when you live in a dangerous world, even if you are living in a palace in the lap of luxury, no place is safe forever.

I really like Cinder. She knew what she wanted and she was willing to go out and get it. I mean, it had to have been scary to go out into the world from her birth commune, and then to leave one after another so that she could get to the palace. And she had to do that without knowing exactly where she’d be able to get more supplies or if what she carried would last her as long as she needed. I’m not sure that I would’ve been able to do it, especially trudging through the desert. I am not a trudging through the desert kind of woman. I am not a going to the desert kind of woman. It’s hot. I don’t like to be hot. We get to see a lot of that fire and strength in Cinder. I mean, yeah, she has her moments, but overall, she is a very strong character. That doesn’t mean she’s not submissive too. The two things aren’t mutually exclusive. You can be both strong and submissive. And Cinder definitely is.

Donte seems to be a really good man. He cares for the entire harem, and wants everyone to be safe. He is stern and disciplined, as well as being the disciplinarian. But it seems like everything he does to discipline the women of the harem is done in a caring way. In fact, there is one point when he’s been brought in to punish Cinder that he asks if she thinks that she deserves it and listens to her explain why she doesn’t. We really don’t get to know much about him, except through Cinder, since everything is from her POV.

OMG, that last scene with Maysa? I’m pretty sure that’s going to be nightmare fodder for me. That was… Yeah.

~Swipe right for abduction~

Two minutes ago I was lying in my hospital bed, waiting to die of cancer, reading an awesome sci fi romance on a mysteriously delivered e-reader.

Now I’m in another galaxy, cancer free. The aliens abducted me because they want me to a bride for one of their warriors. Weird. The whole thing sounds a lot like the story I was just reading…

Except the surly warrior who’s supposed to claim me doesn’t want a mate.

Sara Fields-Manhandled

Sara is back with another scifi romance, with aliens with gigantic magical cocks. I think magical cocks are probably the best kind of cocks, and I am totally jealous of Cara. One reviewer said that Manhandled was basically just porn, and frankly, I wonder what exactly is wrong with that? Especially when it’s very well-written porn, like this is.

So, here’s our story. Cara works for some really, really bad guys. She’s the mechanic of a ship, which got confiscated by the government, so now she’s paid her very last bit of cash to another ship to take her to Dryac. Dryac is pretty much the Wild West of space. No one really truly rules it, and just about anything goes there. She knows that she’ll be able to find a job, then she can get in touch with her handler at the Association and get back to work for them so that she can send money to her family and keep them safe. Of course, it doesn’t work out all that well for her because she’s a tiny human woman on a planet where there aren’t a whole lot of rules and there are a lot of huge aliens who think that human women are fair game. In fact, on her way to find a job, one of them grabs her and tries to have his way with her and then he is going to sell her. Whoopsie.

Then, along comes an even bigger alien who beats the crap out the first alien, then proceeds to belt the hell out of Cara’s ass. And when that was done, he decided that he needed to punish her some more. Which leads to him taking her home.

Bane is the name of the bigger alien with the magical cock. It vibrates, it spins, it hits all the magical spots. I mean, totally magical. He is actually a pretty nice guy for all that he belted a woman in the middle of the marketplace where everyone could see. Of course, nice guy doesn’t mean that he’s an overall good guy. I think that he’s as honorable as he can get, and he follows his own code and his own honor, which I am all fine with.  His world is not my world, and our rules are different for each other.

Cara is smart, funny, stubborn, and very, very canny. She’s a good fighter too. She’s also very dedicated to her family, and she will do everything she can to make sure that they are safe, even if she doesn’t like what she has to do. I would very much like to have her on my side if I were in trouble, because I don’t think that she would let anyone or anything stop her from getting to the person she wants to protect.

There is more than just porn in this book, there is a good story too. But, yeah, really good smut. Honestly, how and why would anyone complain about that? I think that everyone needs to have some quality smut in their lives.

market-691293_1920

I love how Cara handles her problems. I really wouldn’t want to mess with her, you know?

OK, that’s all for today! Go check out all Sara’s books! Happy reading!
