Freak is the 7th book in Winter Travers’ Fallen Lords MC book. I’ve read all the books and reviewed at least a couple of them on here. I’ve fallen in love with the Girl Gang, and I think that Alice is my favorite one of the ladies. We have two new ladies to add to the Girl Gang in this book, Wendy and Carnie, although I could make the argument that they were already honorary members, after becoming Mayra’s friend in Boink. Anyway, this is Freak and Carnie’s story. I do have to say that the whole time I was reading this, I had Freak on a Leash by Korn going through my head. I have like 3 versions of it, so it was really mix and match in my head.
Carnie and her sister Wendy have hurried from their small town in UT to the Fallen Lords compound. They became friends with Mayra and Boink while they were in hiding. Bobby, Carnie’s scuzzball ex is stalking her, and she knows that Boink and his brothers will know what to do with him, because they did before.
Wrecker, the prez, puts Freak and Slayer on guard duty for the sisters. Freak gets Carnie, and Slayer gets Wendy. And they are a whole other story. In fact, I’m pretty sure that they are the whole next story.
Anyway, being a motorcycle club book, there is, of course, drunken antics, including an appearance from Capitan Karmen. And there is definite Alice craziness, which isn’t typical of a MC book, but is typical of a Fallen Lords book. And for all of Alice’s craziness, and let me assure you, she is quite delightfully crazy, she is a wonderful person who does what she can to make people feel better and more at ease. She adopts Carnie and Wendy and it’s like they are old, dear friends immediately. We can’t forget the appearance of strange and lovable parents as well.
I like Carnie. It took me a minute to get a true read on her. I’m not exactly sure why, but she just felt shielded for a little while. It could be that it’s because she feels guilty about what is going on because of Bobby. Ugh. Bobby. I think that she is very loving though. Her love language is definitely feeding people and it’s something that she loves to do.
Freak is pretty much an open book. He was very easy to get a read on. I think that he was very open to falling in love, and Carnie showing up the way that she did must’ve seemed like a sign. I think that he got into his head a little bit though. Kind of made him a little jerky there for a second.
I really like these books because while there is tension and drama, there is also a hefty helping of sheer humor and friendship. All the ladies are close friends, and they accept each other as they are. That’s kind of hard to beat, you know? As long as Winter keeps writing these books, I’ll keep reading them.
I love the way that Carnie’s mom talks to the Big Bad. It was just hilarious.
Carnie smacking Wrecker’s hand was just sooo funny.
OK, that’s all for this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!
