Avalon is a huleon. She’s a human/mauleon hybrid. And she’s being blackmailed by her uncle to go steal from the mauleons. Not only is he blackmailing her to steal, but he’s getting her to steal a royal artifact from the mauleons, and one which will probably keep the war going for right now. Everything seems to be going reasonably well, until her teammates throw a flare right at the roof that she is hiding on. It catches the roof on fire and catches the attention of the 4 mauleons who are right under the roof that she’s hiding on. And whoops, that’s not a very good thing to have happen. The next thing that Ava knows is that she’s sentenced to death, and not a very nice one. She’s to be impaled on a spear, paraded through town, and then shot in the head.
Takk, Timin, Zo, and Kondio are a squad that have been together for a long time during this war. They have been through a lot together, and they are good friends as well as teammates. Takk is their leader, and he has led them well. Now, he’s gotten them to place where they have the honor of killing this thief. Only, there’s just something about her. Something that won’t let them participate in her death. So, they decide they are going to steal the thief.
Of course, it’s never as easy as it sounds, because that wouldn’t be so fun, would it? We get to watch while Avalon plots and schemes, trying to figure out how to get away. She almost does a time or two. And I’m sure we can all guess exactly how well that went over for her, can’t we?
I like Avalon. I also feel sorry for her. She’s been abandoned by everyone who should’ve ever taken care of her. And because she’s a hybrid, she gets shit on all sides. Too mauleon for the humans, too human for the mauleons, and just ignored and mistreated by everyone around. I don’t think anyone has ever just taken care of her or try to help her. Instead, she gets jerkoffs like her uncle who force her and blackmail her into doing things. Or people who beat her so that she will become the best thief possible. She does have Nibbles, but she hasn’t had him long. And Nibbles is so very, very, very cute.
I think of Takk, Zo, Kondio, and Timin, I like Zo and Kondio the most. Of course, that may be because they warm up to Avalon first. But Zo really takes care of her and worries about her. Of course, he spanks her too, but hey, that’s all part of the taking care of her too, so it works out well. Timin took a while to warm up, but I wonder how much of that is just trying to get through all the bullshit from the war and the residuals from his injury. I think that one of my favorite non-sex scenes is when Avalon is taking care of Timin. He doesn’t really want her to, but she’s there just caring for him.
Takk took me a minute to figure out how I felt about him. I could tell that he was an honorable male and one who was just trying to do the best for his friends, but I think that he sometimes saw things in a much more black and white way than it needed to be seen. I dunno, maybe it’s just me.
Watch for Easter Eggs that Cari has planted, because she does that.
