K and Nicole are taking us back into space and back to the lonely planet where only 10 Morts have survived the end of their world and we get to get up close and friendly with The Mad Lieutenant.
Draven has some issues. No, fuck that, he has some subscriptions. Of course, he has earned them, so I won’t give him too much of a problem about it. He is the only Mort to have survived the deadly disease that killed off nearly all his people. But it came at a price. He was locked in a containment cell for days on end, ranting and raving, and trying to claw his way out and claw his skin off. It wasn’t pretty. Not pretty at all. Because of that, he now has problems with claustrophobia, people touching him, crowds, and so many, many other things. And you know that you have problems with a lot of people when the 9 other beings who live in the world with you are more people than you want to deal with. He doesn’t get what is with all the other Morts wanting mates, because he doesn’t want one, and he’d be more than happy to let all his friends get one. Then he goes into the infirmary where the other human women are still in stasis, and one woman wakes up.
Molly has her own issues. When she wakes up and finds a strange looking male she gets a little freaked out, of course. Then they touch, and there’s a mutual freaking out, so Molly ends up singing to him. When the Commander tells her about mating, she tells him that she will mate with Draven. She and Draven come to an agreement about having each other’s back and helping to keep each other safe. But then the first human/mort baby is born, and problems ensue.
I have always had a soft spot for Draven. I think it’s because he tries really hard to be this big rough and tough Mort, and he is, really, but he’s also really fragile and vulnerable. He has been through so much, and just the mere fact that he is as functional as he is is pretty awesome, considering. Not only that, he’s figured out a way to make his issues work for him.
I like Molly. She has gumption and strength. I also thought that she was really, really brave because she kept going through everything that happened. And I know that she would probably say that she was just doing what she had to, but she still managed to handle it, and if you ask me, that shows true bravery. Plus she stands up to her fears and moves along with them. I think that Molly is one of those women that knows what needs to be done and is going to arrange everything in the world to make sure that it happens the way that it needs to. She’ll listen to you and your objections, they just don’t matter to her. She’s going to just make sure that everything goes the way she thinks they ought to. And the thing is that she does it nicely. It’s not like she barrels you over, she just nicely lets you know that it’s going to work the way that she wants. And the thing is that she’s pretty much right.
I think that Molly and Draven are really good with each other and for each other. They make a really good team and they end up working really well together. I think they may be my favorite couple right now.
I can’t wait for the next one to see how it’s going to work.
I’m interested in the discoveries that were made in this one, and how they are going to affect the rest of the world.
The hook for the next book. OMG!
OK, that’s all for this one. Go check out this fantastic world! Happy reading!
