Renee Rose & Rebel West-Kept by the Zandian

Renee and Rebel are back with the latest book in their Zandian Brides series with Kept by the Zandian. This series takes place on Zandia, after the Zandians have taken it back. Human women are in high demand to be brides, so escaped slaves work hard to get to Zandia, and Zandians will go out and rescue women. The goal is to repopulate Zandia, and since there aren’t that many Zandian women of breeding age, it’s a really good thing that humans are compatible with the Zandians. Eventually, I think that this is going to be a problem. I hope Zander is prepared. Of course, with Lamira around, he’ll probably be ready for anything.

So, this one is Drayk and Taisha’s story. Drayk is a Zandian warrior and captain of his ship. He will do anything his king asks of him. On top of being a warrior and a ship’s captain, he is also a judge on Zandia. He takes that responsibility very seriously. He wants to do everything he can to make sure that he is impartial and doing his best for Zandia. Because of that, he’s never going to take a mate, especially not a human. Human women tend to make the Zandian males more emotional and less logical. He can’t be impartial if his emotions are overly engaged.

Taisha has been a slave all her life. But the woman who was in charge of the house in which she lived told her that it was time to escape. Not only that, she told Taisha how to escape, what ship she should get into, and everything else she needed to know. She also gave Taisha some poison that could take down the Occretians nearly immediately. She manages to escape onto Drayk’s ship.

I like Taisha. I felt really sorry for her that she felt like she had to keep proving herself, no matter what. I think that she was smart, capable, and insightful. She saw so much that other people didn’t see, and that allowed her to make choices and decisions that most people wouldn’t have. I think that her intuition serves her quite well. I don’t blame her for anything that she does, for so many reasons. One is that she was raised a slave, so she is going to make particular choices that Drayk wouldn’t understand.

I like Drayk, most of the time. I think that he’s a good male who really does value his planet and his people. He is very dutiful, which isn’t a bad thing. However, he did make me really mad at him a couple of times. I just wanted to smack the big, purple, horny dude because he doesn’t seem to have the sense his mother gave him sometimes.

It was nice to check in with some old favorites and to see how they are doing now after all the changes.

I love what happened when Taisha went to get the records. I hope that this is a good sign of things to come.

OK, that’s all for today! Go check it out! Happy reading!

Rebel West & Renee Rose-Kept by the Zandian Available Now!

Human females cannot be trusted.

She killed to escape her former slave master.

Stowed away on my ship. Injected me with poison.

Now she’s been remanded to me for probation.

It’s my job to watch her. Rule over her. Discipline her.

It’s up to me to decide if she’s worthy of asylum on our planet.

And I’m dragging my feet on the decision.

Because stars know, I like her right where I have her.

In my home. In my bed.

Kept by me.

Our soothsayer told me: Run away. Beg asylum from the Zandians.

Bring this coin to Lamira, their human queen.

So I escaped slavery. Killed an Ocretion. Stowed away on a Zandian ship.

But I injured one of the warriors I meant to beg asylum from and he now doesn’t trust me.

Sara Fields-Frantic

Today we have another Omegaverse, by Sara Fields this time. But, before I talk about Frantic, I want to clarify something that I said in Friday’s blog, because I got a question about it. If you want to skip the clarification, go for it, and go to the section marked with ***.

I’ve taken to calling myself an Omegaverse junkie. I’ve read all of the MF on Amazon, I think. There may be a couple of books that just came out that I haven’t gotten to yet. I’ve read a good chunk of the MM there, as well as reading more on AO3, especially since I’ve found out that I can download the stories I like and send them to my Kindle. So, here’s the section that got the question. “This one happens to be MF O-verse, which means that there is some dubon/noncon in there, and it is dark. You don’t see that as much when it comes to MM Omegaverse, which I still find to be a really interesting thing. It’s not bad, it’s not good, it’s just different, and different makes the world go ’round.” And here’s the question that I got. “- Is the MF a mistake or oddity? I don’t understand why it’s so different from MM Omegaverse.

Short answer is that MM tends to be lighter and more consensual from the very beginning. Not in all of them, there are always going to be outliers. But, they tend to be more traditionally “romantic”. So, when you are comparing them to the MF, which tend to be darker, more dub/noncon, you notice a real difference. Probably the difference between the two mostly leads back to Addison Cain, who is a dub/noncon, dark romance author, and thus writes what she likes. Again, I’ll emphasize that Addison didn’t create Omegaverse, and there were probably MF stories before she wrote them, but none for sale on Amazon. The authors who are now writing MF followed in Addison’s footsteps and write them in the same way. For some good examples of MM, non-shifter, mpreg Omegaverse, that will let you see the differences between the two of them, check out Piper Scott’s His Command series or her Single Dad’s Support Group series. The SDSG is a spinoff of the His Command books. I have read all her books, and she writes both shifter and non-shifter. I hope that clarifies it some. If not, send me questions, and I’ll continue to answer them to the best of my ability and within my opinions.

*** OK, back to Sara.

Frantic is the second book in her Omegaverse RH series. It is a sequel, but not a serial. Having read the first book will help you to understand what Triss is in trouble for, but you don’t have to have read it to get this story. There’s enough explanation in this one for you to get the basic idea as to what happened.

We open with Triss entering her first estrous. She’s been staked outside the city, away from the suppressants so that it will happen. So, she’s just desperate to be fucked. She’s begging the Betas who are in charge of her punishment to please fuck her. The people of the city are standing on the walls watching her, laughing at her begging and being punished. Then, all of a sudden, 3 Alphas appear from out of the wilds and decide that they are going to fight over her. Triss, in all her desperate horny horniness, sidetracks them by begging them all to fuck her. That’s how she meets her Alphas, Garret, Lothgar, and Ravick. Two of them are from the wilds, one is from the city. They fuck her stupid in front of the city, and then they are all knocked out.

I didn’t particularly care for Triss in the last book, but I didn’t hate or seriously dislike her. She had her place in the last book and her role to play. She had her motivations, which were pretty much as old as time. I think her punishment fit her crime, at least when it comes to being staked out in estrous waiting for an Alpha or three to come fuck her. However, the city, being the city, is never going to see it that way. Frankly, I think that they are definitely the true villain in the series. And I don’t even know that it’s just one particular person in the city, although it looks like there is one person who might want to change that, but the traditions and power structure in the city is definitely set up so that they are the bad guys. The largest dynamic, by number, is Betas, so it makes sense to me as to why they would want to make sure that they stay in charge by making sure that the suppressants continue to work. If people get their natural instincts back, the Alphas are going to take over, so keeping the traditions and power structures in place works. That’s why it works that they treat known Omegas the way that they do. And it’s not very nice. It’s a ghetto, in the original sense of the word. It just reinforces that admitting a dynamic is a bad thing to do, and pretending to be a Beta is always going to be good.

Anyway, I do like Triss in this one. I don’t know that I would call her story so much a redemption storyline as more of a discovery about her and who she is under her actions. Although, there is more than a soupcon of redemption in there too. I like Garret, Ravik, and Lothar too. I think that they are going to be interesting in the world in the upcoming books.

Nikki is interesting. I’m looking forward to learning more about her, as well as more about Ellie. I like her a lot.

OK, that’s all for this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

Merel Pierce-Sacred Omegas: December

Today, I get to one of my favorite things when it comes to my blog. I get to introduce a very brand new author. Merel Pierce has just published her very first book. It’s the first book in a new series, called The Sacred Omegas. This book is called December. With Omega in the title, you can probably guess that this is an Omegaverse book, and it very definitely is. This one happens to be MF O-verse, which means that there is some dubon/noncon in there, and it is dark. You don’t see that as much when it comes to MM Omegaverse, which I still find to be a really interesting thing. It’s not bad, it’s not good, it’s just different, and different makes the world go ’round.

Anyway, let’s talk about December, shall we? So, the world that December lives in isn’t a very friendly world, especially if you are a woman. Even more especially if you are an Omega. December is a woman, but she doesn’t know yet that she’s an Omega. Don’t worry, we’ll get to that. Right now, what she does know is that she feels sick, in pain, and is currently in a transfer station owned by Nikolai, who is basically the prince of the city. He is high ranking Russian mob. In fact, he’s so high ranking, that he IS the Russian mob. December is just sitting there, trying to mind her own business, locked in a cage, waiting for whatever is going to happen, when she starts to feel sicker, and all of a sudden, a brutish Alpha sees her, and decides that he’s going to drag her out of the cage. And he does. By her neck.

Luckily, Nikolai happens to be around at just the right time and in just the right place, and he sees what’s happening. He gets one good whiff of December and realizes that he has an Omega on his hands, so he rescues her from the asshat who is trying to throttle her. When he gets her to the medical center, he finds out that she has a suppressant implant. It works like those birth control implants do, only suppressants instead of contraceptives. It’s failing, and it’s making her sick. So Nikolai has it removed and decides that he’s going to make her an offer she can’t refuse. He needs an heir, she’s an Omega, it’s a match made in heaven. She owes him money, and if she gives him a baby, he’ll call it even and let her go.

Of course, it’s never that easy. If it were that easy, it wouldn’t be a dark romance, and it wouldn’t have dubcon/noncon elements, would it? There are some really shitty things that happen, and some really good things, and Merel does really well at balancing things out and not burning us out.

I like December. I think that her name is so unique. She’s very canny and street smart. At one point, in the beginning of the book, Nikolai likens her to a feral animal, and I think that is a really good description of her. She’s just as likely to bite your hand as she is to let you pet her. Of course, she hasn’t ever had anyone in her life who has treated her all that well, so when she is in a place where she’s warm, has good food, and is relatively safe, but has an unknown character running around, she’s doing what she can to protect herself, which can include making herself agree to whatever the Alpha in the room wants.

December is also incredibly strong and resilient. I mean, her past would definitely grind anyone down, but I think she let it polish her and give her more strength. I think the only person who sees how incredibly strong she is is Nikolai, and I think he misses it on occasion.

Nikolai is a good man, in my opinion. He has his own code of honor and morals, and he keeps to them. They may not be mine, but they are his, and it works out for him. I think he’s also very, very focused on what needs to be done. He plays things close to the chest, and he’s a planner. I think that he’ll be good for December in the long run, just as she is good for him.

I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series. I think that Merel did a good job on this one, and she will only continue to get better as she keeps writing and publishing. I do have one tiny quibble, but that is just a me thing, not a quality thing. I think she slightly overused the word meat when it came to describing cocks, but like I said, that’s a me thing and doesn’t affect the book’s quality or even my enjoyment of it in any way. And, to be fair, meat is a good description of the cock. At least she didn’t call it a love rod or a fuck muscle or anything like that, lol.

wolf-62898_1920

I hope that we see more about Dantè. What little we saw of him seemed truly intriguing. There seemed to be more there than what met the eye.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

Natalie Bennet-Macabre & Obscene Dual Cover Reveals!

Series: Dahlia Saga #1-#2
Author: Natalie Bennett
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: May 28, 2019
Cover Design: Opulent Designs

Everyone knows the stories about naïve girls being taken by beautiful monsters.

Often the monster is a tortured soul with a fucked up past, but even then, that monster is redeemable.
This is not one of those stories.
My monster revels in the carnage he creates.
Our story is not one where good prevails and the villain becomes a hero.
My reality is dark.
His demons are darker.
And though I love my monster, this is no fairytale.
There is no happily ever after.

Love is a tragedy designed for two.
What would you endure to see it through?
I was nothing.
He was both madness and paradise.
I was innocent.
He was twisted, harboring sadistic secrets.
I was a malignant obsession.
Now I am his most prized possession.

Grace Goodwin-Cyborg’s Secret Baby

Grace’s newest book, Cyborg’s Secret Baby, combines 2 of my favorite things in her series, Atlans and the Colony. I love me an Atlan, and the guys at the Colony just have a special place in my heart.

Anyway, this one is a little different, instead of starting out with the Bride being tested, we get to meet Warlord Jorik immediately. He’s been stationed on Earth, in Miami (everyone say hi to Warden Egara!) as a guard for the processing center. He really could take or leave most of Earth, but Jorik has discovered a new and abiding love for ice cream. Or maybe not for ice cream, but definitely for the beautiful woman who walks past him every day and who works at the ice cream joint down the road. Each day, after he gets off work, he walks down to the ice cream shop and tries something new. He also flirts with Gabriela, the woman he knows is his mate, and is just about to talk to her about being his mate, but then terrible things happen.

Gabriela is really excited about seeing the giant Atlan every day. He flirts with her, she’s flattered. Then a guy walks into the ice cream shop and tries to rob her. Of course, her Atlan Warlord isn’t going to let that happen. The next thing she knows, she and Jorik are at her house, and getting all kinds of freaky. And it is good. And they are both positive about how they feel about the other. But then, the terriblest thing happens. Jorik is sent away from Earth, and Gabriela can’t go with him.

Now, if you’ve read the title, you can pretty much guess part of what this book is about. There’s a baby. It’s a secret.

I have to admit, I really wanted to read this book, but from the blurb, I knew that parts of it were going to be sad, and I was dreading the sad parts. Not in a I don’t want to read this book kind of dread, just in a I know this is going to be sad, but I know that Grace always gives us HEAs, so it’s worth it kind of way. Does that make sense? And I was right.

I love all the Atlans in this book, each and every one of them, because Atlans. So awesome. Jorik is a wonderful male, and he is so caring when it comes to Gabriela, and so loyal when it comes to his comrades. He goes through a lot and still comes through as the same wonderful being as he started out as.

Gabriela is very brave. She had to be. She would probably say that it wasn’t brave because she was just doing what she had to do, but I think that is brave. Standing up and doing all the things that you have to do no matter what, and she really was at the no matter what stage, is always going to be brave. And she’s so brave and so strong. I really, really liked her. Can you tell? I think that she might be one of my favorite Grace heroines.

ice-cream-770994_1920

I had a feeling about that person. I didn’t know what the feeling was at first, but there it was.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out. Happy reading!

Megan Michaels-Hard Daddy

I’ve never reviewed one of Megan’s Daddy books on here, but her new release, Hard Daddy, gives me the chance to do that.

Some of the other Daddy books I’ve written about are fairly light and sweet. That’s not Megan’s jam. She’s on the darker and not nearly as sweet side. Don’t get me wrong, her Daddies are still loving, and they take care of their little girls very well, but, well, they are also stern disciplinarians, and really serious, and more hardcore. And damn, but it works so fucking well.

Mace is a former SEAL and Mafia hitman. Now he’s just a simple IT guru. OK, maybe not simple, he runs a very successful business and makes a lot of money doing it. And best of all, it’s away from his family and the Mafia, and is a straight job.

Kyleigh has a shitty boyfriend who she just found is in the Mafia. They are on their way out to dinner when she tells him that she wants to break up with him. Instead, he drags her into an alley, and tries to rape and kill her. Luckily for her, she screams loud enough to attract Mace’s attention and he is able to save her from the jackass’s attentions. Mace decides the best way to keep Kyleigh safe is to take her home and hide her at his house for a few weeks.

Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Well, at least it’s not that easy for Kyleigh. She is stubborn, and bound and determined to get home, to her own home. She’s willing to do just about anything, including climbing out a 3rd story bathroom window. Now, since this is a Daddy book, and Mace is a guy, you can probably guess that Kyleigh isn’t the Daddy here and her ass isn’t going to fare so well.

I like Kyleigh, she’s got a lot of sass and is stubborn AF. I have to wonder how bright she is sometimes, because she doesn’t necessarily seem to learn all that quickly, even with object lessons at hand, so to speak. I think that she does well under Mace’s care, even if she says she doesn’t like it. I think that Mace will be good for her. More importantly, I think she will be good for him.

Mace is a little high-handed sometimes, and I would probably try to kick him in the face a time or two. OK, maybe I should wonder about Kyleigh’s brightness at learning lessons, if I’m willing to try to kick him in the face a few times. I think that maybe he jumps into things a little fast where he should have asked a question or two a couple of times, but since it works out well in the story, so I may be wrong. It does happen, on occasion. LOL.

All in all, this is a smoking hot story with a very hot pacifier, and one that is a great addition to my Daddy collection on my Kindle.

soup-1116028_1920

I love the way that Megan handles humiliation in here. It’s almost as good as how Emily Tilton does, and we all know that I think she’s pretty much the queen at that. The small hand towel? Genius.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!
