Measha’s back at the Annex again with Obediently Ever After. You know, there are a couple of worlds I wouldn’t mind living in. One is the Black Light world. Another is the world of the Annex. It seems like it could be fun, and hey, everyone gets their happy ending, in more ways than one. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, say no more. The books are generally an adult twist on a fairy tale, but I don’t think this one is, unless you really want to play with the angel/devil thing with the names of Angelica and Damien. Oh well, it doesn’t matter one way or the other, I really enjoyed the book, so that’s the important part, right?
Angel is new to the Annex, and she’s about to go to her first party. She has fibbed, a little bit, or maybe a lot of bit, about how much experience she has, but she’s sure that she will be able to stay away from the stuff that she doesn’t want to do, because she has to sign off on any contract. Her new friends try to talk her out of it, because she’s only been there for a week, but Angel needs the money, so she’s going to do it.
Damien has never been to a party at the Annex, but he’s gotten an invite, so he’s going to go. He doesn’t mind looking at some of the stuff that goes on at various play parties, but he doesn’t want to go that extreme. He is more into the domestic discipline thing, so when he spots a woman who looks like she’s straight out of a ’50’s pinup pic, he knows that she’s the one for him.
I like Angelica, mostly. I think that she was a little naive in a few places, but mostly, her heart was good and in the right place. She thought that she was doing the right thing, even if it wasn’t necessarily the right thing. I like that she tried. I think trying your best and failing is better than just not trying at all. I do like her journey.
Damien is one of those guys that I just liked from the very start. There really is no point in the story when I get mad at him. I think that he is a very steady character and one that will do a lot of good for the people he loves and who love him. He’s a good man, a strong man, and one that I just liked.
I love that Angelica decides that she’s going to stand up for herself and start doing what she wants in her life. I applauded her for that action. Good for her.
Ok, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!
