K. Webster-Enzo

Welcome back to K. Webster’s Taboo Town, population: Me. Today we’re getting to know the latest citizens of TT in Enzo.

This book is the story of Enzo, Jenna, and baby Cora. Jenna is a foster child after her mother abandoned her. She’s grown up in the system, and she’s grown up quick. She’s spent most of her 16 years in the foster system bouncing from house to house until her current foster parents bring in a banshee baby in to foster. They foisted her off on Jenna, and then decided they were getting out of the foster parent biz, but not before Jenna and baby Cora bonded tightly. Two years later, Cora and Jenna have still been bounced all over the place, but they are always together, but Jenna is about to age out of the system, and she’s planning on adopting Cora, no matter what anyone else says.

Lorenzo, AKA Enzo, is the caseworker who has just taken over Cora and Jenna’s cases. He’s drawn to Jenna, but she’s underage and one of his kids, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to help her as much as possible. Enzo knows how hard it is to be a foster child, because he was in the system too. He keeps telling Jenna to hang on, until he realizes it’s better to tell her to don’t drown and then figure out how to help her.

I love these little Taboo Treats. The stories are quick and dirty. If you only have a little bit of time to sit down and read, they can be the perfect fix for that. They are also all interconnected with each other, but you can read them as a standalone if you want. K. lists her suggested reading order, but if you don’t read them in that order, it doesn’t really matter. I’ve read them all as they’ve come out chronologically, and you don’t always realize where the book is in relation to the other books. Does that make sense? Makes sense to me.

Anyway, there are some scenes here that we’ve seen in other books, but I liked seeing them through Jenna and/or Enzo’s eyes because it brought a new depth to the scene and enhanced the story to know that I’ve seen this bit somewhere else in someone else’s story.

I do love Jenna. She’s such a tough cookie. She’s so strong, but still has a wonderful soft center. She’s loyal and loving and she’s super fierce. She will be a force to be reckoned with. Enzo is a good man. He has very good reasons why he’s doing the work that he does, and I think it makes him more invested in the situation because he’s BTDT. He really cares.

On a sidenote, my son had wicked ear infections when he was little, and has had 2 sets of tubes. He had a speech delay because of how bad his ears were, so I so felt for Jenna and Cora every time she got sick.

OK, well, the one point I really wanted to say that I liked and thought was really awesome was more spoilery than I wanted to put, so I’m not going to say anything other than I really liked that part.

It was nice seeing Sophia from Crybaby and seeing her all sassy. I love that she and Jenna became friends, because they both need it.

OK, that’s all I have to o say bout this one. Go check out all the Taboo Treats. Happy reading!
