Jane Henry-The Bratva’s Baby

When it comes to the dark in dark romance, there’s a continuum. What’s dark for you isn’t necessarily what’s dark for me, and what I think is medium dark may be enough to curl your hair. And along that continuum, you can stick various authors, who all have their own ranges. Why am I bringing this up? Because Jane Henry wrote a dark romance that I enjoyed called The Bratva’s Baby. Is it the darkest thing I’ve ever read? Nope. Is it dark for Jane Henry? Yup. See what I mean about continuums and ranges? Jane isn’t a dark writer, and that’s perfectly OK. I like her forays into dark romance, and for me, that’s all that matters. I don’t generally get all picky about breaking down classifications, I’m more picky about finding authors I like and books I want to read, and Jane’s an author I like and I want to read her books, so it’s all good here.

OK, now that I have all that out of the way, let’s talk story, shall we? Yes, pretty please. So, Kazimir is a high ranking member of the mafiya, the Russian Mob. In fact, he’s isn’t just a high ranking member, he’s in the very, very tippy top of the high rankers. So, when he goes out into the field for a mission, you know that there has to be a good reason for it. In this case, it’s Sadie, a small town librarian, who is said to be worth millions and millions and millions.

Sadie is very happy living in her small life, she’s a small town librarian who is happy with being alone with her books. Men make her nervous. And then one day, HE walks into her library. Kazimir wants to have information about some biographies, and he gets her to walk him back to where they are. Then he manages to take her to dinner and next thing she knows, she’s on an airplane to Russia.

I spent the first parts of the book not sure whether or not I would actually like Kazimir. Sometimes I seemed to really like him, sometimes I thought that he was a complete asshole. And to be fair, he really was a fucking asshole sometimes. I also think that he is a little naive about certain things, which is a weird thing to say about a member of the Russian mob, but he just seems to have a blindspot. I understand why he has a blindspot, I would too, in his case, but still, blindspot. Huge fucking one. I like Sadie. I think that she has spark and spirit. I also think that she might occasionally fight a little too hard for her own good, but that’s her choice and her right and I won’t take it away from her. I don’t know that I wouldn’t be the exact way in her case. I mean, she’s been abducted from her home, has been taken to a country where she doesn’t speak the language, and then she has to do things that she doesn’t want to do.

russian-matryoshka-stacking-babushka-wooden-dolls-meaning

I like Nikita and how she seems to be more loyal to Sadie than she is to Kazimir or Dimitri. Of course, I wouldn’t have any loyalty to Dimitri, but he’s a nasty fucker.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check it out! Happy reading!

About Eva

Raisa Greywood-The Jaguar Rogue

So, Raisa’s latest Shifter’s Mate book came out last week, The Jaguar Rogue. This one is the story of Soledad, who we have met in both Renata’s and Daiyu’s books, so we are at least familiar with her. But now, we are going to get up close and personal with Soledad and her mate, Markon.

Now, we’ve seen that Soledad is a fierce fighter, a pirate, swift, cunning, and ferocious. She’s also highly motivated. You see, she led her 2 younger sisters and her brother from Brazil to Atlanta so that they could go to Ximera. All three women matched to mates, but Markon, an idiot, declined his match. But then, Soledad and her sisters were separated from their brother and stolen away. When Soledad woke up, she discovered that sisters were gone. To say that this sent her and her jaguar into a rage would be putting it lightly. To say that beings were maimed, dismembered, killed, and eaten would probably be a little closer to the mark. So, she’s decided that she’s going to find her sisters and find the people who took her sisters and eat every single bit of them in revenge. After all, her mate doesn’t want her, so you know, what’s a girl to do? A little interstellar piracy and revenge sound like just the thing.

Meanwhile, Markon is off looking for Soledad. Partly because he’s been ordered to by the First and partly because he’s now become obsessed with his mate. He had a mate before, and he might not have wanted one now, but the First, being who he is, decided that Markon was going to have one, and voila. So, he’s finally gotten Soledad right where he wants her, after everyone thinks she was killed during the exodus of Earth, and he’s going to get and keep her. He has a special collar to keep her from shifting and he’s going to keep her caged, if necessary. Except, there’s one thing that he did wrong. He underestimated Soledad, badly. FTR, if you have a tricksy space pirate jaguar that you are trying to keep from running away, taking all their options away from them isn’t the best choice. But, he does get Soledad’s mating bite. Now, you see why I think that Markon was an idiot? And a huge knob? Seriously, he deserved everything that happened to him. And Soledad’s brother is now stationed on Markon’s ship, and when he found out what happened, he kind of laughed at Markon, told him he deserved it, and said that he might’ve done worse to him if Markon had actually succeeded at his plan. I totally would’ve too.

I like Soledad. Of course, I’ve liked all the heroines in this series. Renata is still my number 1 fave, but Daiyu and Soledad are tied, and it’s right close. I mean, if Renata is 100, then Daiyu and Soledad are 99.999999999, so super close. All of the ladies have had some particular strength, and Soledad’s is that she’s fucking crazy. And I mean that in the best possible way. Between her and Markon, there is precious little sane. It makes them perfect for each other. I think it will also make them quite formidable. If the Council needs the people who will get their hands dirty and do the things that no one else will, Soledad and Markon will be the people to do that. Of course, if Markon tries to leave Soledad out of it, she’s going to go out, beat him to it, and then lead him on a merry chase. He’d love it and hate it and they will both love every single second of the chase, and the belting that he would give her ass.

And the part that made me laugh the hardest? The epitaph on Soledad’s memorial. Here lies that fucking pirate. May she rest in pieces.

bouwer-snarl

Seriously, Markon is so lucky that Soledad didn’t take his arm off. I would definitely’ve considered it.

I loved the idea of Soledad playing with the dragons. It sounded awful cute.

And I really want to see the jackal and the First mate. I need for that to happen.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this one. Go check out the whole series. Happy reading!

“Why would I let the world see him? He’s imperfect. No, he needs to stick to the shadows where he’ll not bring shame to this family.”

William Cavendish is…different. Too much so for his merciless father to bear publicly. He was hidden away from the world his entire life until, in one dark moment, he did the unthinkable to save his beloved brother, gaining his own freedom in the process. But liberty has its own price. William struggles with a world he doesn’t understand, emotions he’s never experienced…and an alarming taste for the dark side he’s discovered dwelling within him.

Formally educated in law, Tamara Bennett is unlike most women of the day. Not bad for the daughter of a lowly lady’s maid. When she learns a secret society was responsible for the torture of her closest acquaintance, Victoria Cavendish, she vows to employ any and all means—legal or otherwise—to bring the society to its knees. At her side is Victoria herself, as well as Victoria’s husband, Nicholas, and his brother—the intriguing and troubled William.

Delving ever deeper into London’s darkest shadows, an undeniable attraction blooms between William and Tamara, bringing them closer and closer…until their actions stir up perilous forces determined to tear them apart.

About Anna

Anna hails from the rural countryside near London.  She previously worked as an accountant, and while she still does a bit of accountancy on occasion, the majority of her time is now spent writing and looking after her family.

An avid reader herself, Anna turned to writing to combat depression and anxiety after her diagnosis in 2015. She loves travel, hunky heroes with dirty mouths, demure but spunky heroines, and dramatic suspense. You will find all four woven into each of her magical stories.

K. Webster-Enzo

Welcome back to K. Webster’s Taboo Town, population: Me. Today we’re getting to know the latest citizens of TT in Enzo.

This book is the story of Enzo, Jenna, and baby Cora. Jenna is a foster child after her mother abandoned her. She’s grown up in the system, and she’s grown up quick. She’s spent most of her 16 years in the foster system bouncing from house to house until her current foster parents bring in a banshee baby in to foster. They foisted her off on Jenna, and then decided they were getting out of the foster parent biz, but not before Jenna and baby Cora bonded tightly. Two years later, Cora and Jenna have still been bounced all over the place, but they are always together, but Jenna is about to age out of the system, and she’s planning on adopting Cora, no matter what anyone else says.

Lorenzo, AKA Enzo, is the caseworker who has just taken over Cora and Jenna’s cases. He’s drawn to Jenna, but she’s underage and one of his kids, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to help her as much as possible. Enzo knows how hard it is to be a foster child, because he was in the system too. He keeps telling Jenna to hang on, until he realizes it’s better to tell her to don’t drown and then figure out how to help her.

I love these little Taboo Treats. The stories are quick and dirty. If you only have a little bit of time to sit down and read, they can be the perfect fix for that. They are also all interconnected with each other, but you can read them as a standalone if you want. K. lists her suggested reading order, but if you don’t read them in that order, it doesn’t really matter. I’ve read them all as they’ve come out chronologically, and you don’t always realize where the book is in relation to the other books. Does that make sense? Makes sense to me.

Anyway, there are some scenes here that we’ve seen in other books, but I liked seeing them through Jenna and/or Enzo’s eyes because it brought a new depth to the scene and enhanced the story to know that I’ve seen this bit somewhere else in someone else’s story.

I do love Jenna. She’s such a tough cookie. She’s so strong, but still has a wonderful soft center. She’s loyal and loving and she’s super fierce. She will be a force to be reckoned with. Enzo is a good man. He has very good reasons why he’s doing the work that he does, and I think it makes him more invested in the situation because he’s BTDT. He really cares.

On a sidenote, my son had wicked ear infections when he was little, and has had 2 sets of tubes. He had a speech delay because of how bad his ears were, so I so felt for Jenna and Cora every time she got sick.

catering secondary hero_queso_891x480

OK, well, the one point I really wanted to say that I liked and thought was really awesome was more spoilery than I wanted to put, so I’m not going to say anything other than I really liked that part.

It was nice seeing Sophia from Crybaby and seeing her all sassy. I love that she and Jenna became friends, because they both need it.

OK, that’s all I have to o say bout this one. Go check out all the Taboo Treats. Happy reading!

Renee Rose & Lee Savino-Alpha’s Secret

Renee Rose and Lee Savino, fresh off staring and whispering, have given us another book in their Alpha’s world. This time our focus isn’t on a wolf, we get a big ass grizzly bear and a fox in Alpha’s Secret.

Our main characters are Grizz and Jordy. We’ve met both of them before. Grizz used to work at Fight Club until the wolves found out that he was also working with the vampire King. Jordy we only met for a minute back when she was helping Foxfire and Tank. She’s paying for it now though.

So, Grizz is on a mission. And luckily the King is OK with it, at least for right now. Grizz also works as a bouncer at the vamp’s BDSM club, so he gets to see all the fun and games. He doesn’t quite understand it, but he sees those who like it really liking it. Then, he sees a beautiful little redhead submissive being beaten, and not in a fun way, but a vampire. When Grizz stops it, Benny the Leech gets all pissy about it. Later, Grizz rescues the tiny submissive from yet another evil vamp, Augustine, where he has her locked, naked and shivering, in a cage, going through sub drop. He just can’t leave her there, so he takes her back to his den.

Jordy’s family of fox shifters is paranoid, inbred, and assholes. When she helped outsiders, her family decided that she was a safety risk, so they sold her and Augustine ended up as her “Master”. He mistreated her, neglected her, and allowed her to be harmed. Then, Grizz saves her, and she, for the first time in her life, feels safe, even if he is a big, scary, growly grizzly bear who is growling and grumbling, when he isn’t purring for her.

I’ve always liked Grizz, even when it looked like he was up to something bad. Well, he was up to something and he was keeping secrets, but there was a point to it. But this book made me like him more. He is, however, a huge lying liar who lies through his lying mouth. Now, granted, he’s only really lying to himself, but he’s still a huge fucking liar. That’s ok, as Mulder always said, the truth is out there. And Jordy, AKA Kit, is more than happy to drop some gospel truth on his ass.

A lot of people would look at the submissive personality that is Kit and think that she is weak. In fact, I think that she felt that about herself for a while, but, she is a lot stronger than anyone thinks she is. Submissive doesn’t mean weak. I do think that she’s a great character and I really liked watching her journey through the book and the choices that she decides to make are really interesting and I understood where she was coming from with them.

We do get to see the Tucson pack, at least for a minute or two, and we get to spend a lot of time with the Terrific Trio, Parker, Laurie, and Declan. I really like those guys and I so want to see them get some kind of HEA. They are pretty tightly bonded, so I’m not sure how it would work, but Lee and Rose could come up with something.

I’m really interested to see what’s coming up in the series. I feel like there is more to come with Grizz and Jordy and that their story wasn’t completely told. Not like the book was unfinished, but that there was just more to come, if that makes sense.

animal-animal-photography-bear-213988

I really like how Grizz figures out that he’s not quite as vanilla as he thought he was and he discovered that he likes a little slap and tickle. Or ropes and spanking, you know, whatever.

OK, that’s all for this one. Go check out the entire series. Many of them are in audio as well, so you can listen to them if you want. Happy reading!

The Dynamic Duo-Robot Daddy

The Dynamic Duo of Allysa Hart and Rayanna Jamison are back with another Fantastical Daddy. This time, we don’t have Santa, a genie, or an ogre, we have a Robot Daddy.

Stella is a genius. She works in robotics and AI. She’s also stuck being the maid of honor in her younger sister’s wedding. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, her younger sister is marrying Stella’s ex. Her ex of less than a year. Yeah. That totally sucks. When she has to go down to her family’s house for the engagement party, she has to bring a boyfriend, because she lied to her mother and sister and told them that she had an awesome boyfriend. Which, yeah, not so much. When she calls her best friend and lab partner Brian and asks him to go with her, he can’t because he’s sick. He says it’s too bad she can’t make a robot boyfriend. Once she’s good and drunk, she apparently comes up with the best plans ever. The next morning, she goes to work, looks at her drunk plans, and makes Build-A-Boyfriend mark A, also known as Robo-Rob, the perfect boyfriend who is supposed to make her parents love him, her sister jealous, and her ex angry. Rob has one goal though, and I bet you can guess what it is.

This is a cute, sweet, and pretty short story. There is a lot of humor and a lot of jokes. That’s the Ally factor. She tends to write a lot of sweet stuff. The sex is also super hot, which I’m pretty sure is all Ray. There are all kinds of ’80s movie quotes, and if you are a child of the ’80s like me, you will probably get most of them. There was one that I had to look up, but I haven’t watched as many current movies as many times as I have Monty Python or Short Circuit. This really is a feel good story, full of light and happy. There is some angst and drama, but it helps to highlight the happy. It’s like adding in some salt into your sweets. It helps bring out the flavor better.

OMG, Robo-Rob’s dick. It is fantastic. I mean, just the idea of it is super wow. Kinda scary too, but I wouldn’t mind experiencing it just one time. Or maybe twice. Oh hell, probably 3 times just to make sure that the first two weren’t a glitch.

I love Robo-Rob’s last quote to Stella’s mom. My husband and I watched that movie a lot back when we were dating and first married, so it kind of made me feel all nostalgic.

OK, that’s all I have to say on this one. Definitely go read it. It’s totally worth it. Happy reading!
