Yearly Wrap Up-Top Ten Important Books Pt. 1

When I say important books, I mean that the top 10 books that I read that were the most important to me. They aren’t in any particular order, because I rarely put anything in any kind of order.

K. Webster-My Torin

My Torin was one of the first books I read this year. I cried like crazy while I was reading it.  K. Webster writes taboo, dark, and then this heavily emotional stuff. And she does it so well. Each one of her heavy emotion books has gotten to me and has made me cry. There are a lot of reasons why Torin got to me. One is that I have an autistic son, and I worry about what his future looks like, so seeing a character like Torin in the lead of one of KWeb’s books gave me a serious happy. Another reason it really got to me is because of how well and how sensitively K wrote Torin. She didn’t go for the sensationalization or stereotypes, but made Torin a real person with a lot of depth and layers. Torin is going to live in my heart for a long time. (review)

Ilona Andrews-Magic Triumphs

I know that I’ve talked about how much I love urban fantasy, especially with a strong female lead. Well, Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series really fits into that category. I would argue that Kate is definitely one of the strongest female leads in urban fiction. I reread the entire series, complete with all the novellas, at least once a year. Magic Triumphs came out this year. I had it on pre-order from literally the day that Gordon and Ilona announced that it was available for preorder. I think it was nearly a year. Why did I do this? Well, one, I love this series so hard. And two, this was the last book in the Kate Daniels series. There may be more books that come out in the world over the years, according to Ilona Andrews, but no more in Kate’s series. I’m not even going to try to sum up the whole thing here. It would take more space than I have. I just realized that I don’t have a blog review for it. Hmmm….

Addison Cain-The Golden Line

We all know that I’m going to read any and every Addison Cain book, so what makes The Golden Line important to me? There are a lot of reasons why, but the biggest one is Simin. Addison was my first intro to the whole Omegaverse subgenre, with the Alpha’s Claim series. (BTW, I own those books in 3 formats, as ARCs, as audio books, and as purchased books. Yeah, I may be obsessed.) I love that series, and Shepherd is my man all the way, but what we usually see in the interactions between Alphas and Omegas is very intense and violent-ish. Lots of dubcon/noncon going on. However, it’s different with Simin. When he rescues Morgaine, he wants to handle her very carefully and respectfully, but she hadn’t been dealt with until then, so it was hard for her to believe that anyone would treat her that way. Simin was so patient with her and so caring. It was a different version of an Alpha from Shepherd, and that felt really important to me. Besides, I had been waiting on it forever! All Addison ever says about release dates is coming soon. Even to her ARC team and PA. (review)

Kit Rocha-Beyond series

Well, I’m sort of cheating with this one, since it’s a whole series and not just one book. And when I say the Beyond series, I’m adding in the novellas and the Gideon’s Riders books into the original 9 books. These books have gotten me through some shitty times. I can easily fall into the series and just get lost in that world. The worldbuilding for this series is great. They are another one that I read frequently. And I have loads of O’Kane swag, and will be getting an O’Kane tattoo at some point. I recommend this series to everyone. It has something for everyone. I also generally describe it as fucking to save the world. Read it and see why I say that. I know that I don’t have a blog review of the books, but check out these posts for an overview. 1 2

T.M. Smith-The Messenger

T.M. Smith was a new writer to me when I read this book. The Messenger was a revelation to me. Which is kind of funny, considering that main characters are the archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer. This book is a beautiful love story and a tragic love story. There are gay sex scenes, which people may think is weird and maybe more than a little sacrilegious when it comes archangels, but they are beautiful and sacred somehow. Yeah, they are hot, but there’s just such a reverence to them that makes it hard to not revel in them. There’s a deep spirituality to the book that felt really important to me, but it isn’t religious. I can’t wait for the next book to come out in the series, to see if the theme carries out. (review)

Well, that’s the first part of the first part of my yearly round up, if that makes any kind of sense at all, lol. Expect more over the next few days. Meanwhile, have a safe and happy holiday. We’ll be watching movies at my house and maybe making it to midnight. I have to wake up early tomorrow, so we’ll see, lol.

And to finish the year, let’s look at a pretty pinup girl.

2018 Yearly Wrap Up

Well, 2018 is wrapping up. That means it’s time for me to look back at all the books I’ve read over the year. Over the next week or so, I’m going to be posting the whole darkest, filthiest, most emotional, etc. books that I’ve read this year. Going to be some interesting books and there are going to be some crossovers from one list to the other.

So, keep your eyes open for that, as well as all the other interesting posts I do, including new ones from Loki Renard & Jane Henry, Cari Silverwood, Dani Rene & K. Webster, and Natalie Bennett. I’m so looking forward to sharing all of these things with you. I’m so excited that you all have chosen to follow and read my words over the last 18 months. It means a lot to me. I hope that you all continue to follow me over the next year.

I only have one resolution for this coming year. I resolve to continue to be as awesome as I was this year and to not change at all, because why mess with perfection?

So from me to all of you, Happy New Year! And may 2019 be all that you want it to be and more.

Felicity Brandon-Tamed

Stop! If you haven’t read the first book in this series, Taken, don’t go any further until you do. This series is a serial and it has cliffhangers. The third book will be out in January, so if you don’t like to read a serial until everything comes out, then you won’t have long to wait. I, myself, don’t mind a little bit of a cliffhanger, but there’s a rumor that I’m a literary masochist. But, I’m telling you now, I can’t wait to get to the third book, because the end of this one? Wow! So, if you are ready to visit Felicity Brandon and get Tamed, then jump over the cliff with me.

beach-blue-sky-cliff-555709

So, when we last left Molly and Connor, she was running away from him at the cabin in the woods. She was sure that she couldn’t handle anything more from Connor and that he had turned into a serious monster. So, trying to be sneaky sneaky, she got the key, grabbed a blanket, and fled into the woods starkass naked. Connor was awake, and he decided to give her a minute before he started chasing her. He did warn her that if she ran, he would chase her, and she would never be able to escape him. So, after a while, he started to chase her.

When he couldn’t find her quickly, he started freaking out, went back and got the car and headed for the road, where he was lucky to see her. Well, lucky for him. Not so lucky for Molly, who is in for some serious punishment.

That punishment includes a serious paddling, a punishment fuck, because really, what punishment is complete without getting it up the ass, and some time spent caged in the mostly dark.

There are a lot of changes in this book, not just in Molly but also in Connor. I mean, of course there are going to be changes in Molly, because when you are in the place that she is in, you are going to do everything you can to make sure that you can keep the person who is keeping your captive happy, because it’s obvious that bad things are going to happen if your captor gets mad. So, she’s going to learn to do everything he wants so that he will stay happy, as well as learn to read his moods so that she can do what she needs to do to keep him happy. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy, right? Uhhhh, nope. But all that makes there be serious changes in her. But, the more surprising thing is that there are also changes in Connor, changes that Molly is making in him. On top of seeing those changes, we also get to learn more about Connor. I mean, we get to know his age now, which is something more than we had before.

We are still getting the split perspective, but like in the last book, I think that there are times when the perspectives almost merge so that we are seeing both of them together, if that makes sense. I don’t think that split perspectives work for all books and I’ve read a few books in which there was a split perspective that I wished wasn’t there, but it really is a necessity for this book, and Felicity does it really well.

OMG, the scene with Conor in the bathroom? Just wow. Says quite a bit about him and his brain, doesn’t it?

I’m looking forward to finding out more about The Syndicate. I’m pretty sure that they are going to figure pretty heavily in the next book. I can’t wait to see.

I wonder how well Molly is going to do now. I’m pretty sure nothing is going to be all that good right now.

That’s all that I have to say. If you like dark, suspenseful, and sexy, go check this one out. Happy reading!

About Maddie

A USA Today and #1 international bestselling author, Maddie is a lifelong reader who became a romance junkie as a teen with her first romance novel, The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss. From then on, she was hooked, and gobbled up everything she could get her hands on, whether contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi. If there was romance to be found between a strong alpha male, and a sassy, adventurous and ofttimes defiant yet loving woman, Maddie was all over it. As an author, she stays true to those themes writing steamy erotic romance, with a side of kink, and adding elements of intrigue, danger and suspense to her plots.

Maddie started writing as a hobby. Her stories stayed private while she raised a family and worked full time as a registered nurse. It wasn’t until 2012 that she decided to take the plunge and submit her first book for publication: Captain My Captain. She went on to publish eleven novels the first year.

Publication Date: January 7, 2019

Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Dark, Mafia, Romance

The Volkov name is one I longed for.

Their household is one I grew up in, but not as an equal—as a maid’s son.

This didn’t stop me from becoming a man to be reckoned with.

But even with my rightful name finally given to me, I still feel adrift.

Until her.

Everything I did was for acceptance.

Everything I lost brought me to my family.

To this life.

To her.

I fought for my status.

I fought for my sisters.

And I will fight to the death for my angel.

She has shown me there is light in our pitch-black world.

That the stars can’t shine without the darkness of night.

She is the stars, and I am the sky in which she shines.

There is evil lurking in the shadows we create.

The corruption and depravities of the First Families have become toxic and are infecting us all from within.

Games have been played, and now, they must end.

I am Vas.

Vocal. Voracious. Vindictive. Volkov.

A devil in love with an angel, and together, we’re going to rule Hell on Earth.

The Vetrov name comes with expectation.

My role in this world is simple: do as Father asks and live my life how he planned it.

My future is already written: run the empire.

Old Values. Old Rule. Old Money.

Until her.

Everything I do lacks purpose.

Everything I do is empty.

Women. Money. Power. It meant nothing.

Until her.

When the Volkov rose showed up at my home a disgraced package, hand-delivered by a Vasiliev prince, I began paving my own path.

I vowed to make her bloom once more.

She consumed me.

Her. Her. Her.

But you can’t love a rose and expect not to be damaged by her thorns.

She cut me too deep.

And I bled out.

My soul fled.

All that’s left is a cold, calculating monster.

I am Veniamin.

Volcanic. Victorious. Valiant. Vetrov.

When you enter my world to play games, prepare to lose.

In the end, I always find the thorn in my side, and I pluck it right out.

About K. Webster

K Webster is the author of dozens romance books in many different genres including contemporary romance, historical romance, paranormal romance, and erotic romance. When not spending time with her husband of twelve years and two adorable children, she’s active on social media connecting with her readers.

Her other passions besides writing include reading and graphic design. K can always be found in front of her computer chasing her next idea and taking action. She looks forward to the day when she will see one of her titles on the big screen.

About Ker Dukey

My books all tend to be darker romance, edge of you seat, angst filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my titles…prepare for the unexpected.

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light; some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Leah Sharelle-His Man

Leah Sharelle and her Wounded Souls guys were new to me, but they are definitely going to go in my MC rotation, and yes, there are times when I go on MC kicks, so I have collections set up on my Kindle so that I can read them when I want. It is a serial, but the books focus on different couples. The books are part of an overall storyline. His Man is a novella in the series, written because people wanted to know more about Ford, and really, I totally understand why, because Ford is freaking AWESOME.

Before I talk about Ford and Lucky, I need to talk about the real star of the book, Shiloh. She’s the Wounded Souls’ princess, and is 4 going on 21. She’s just a delight, and I really loved every interaction with her. I can’t wait to see her all grown up and to see her in her book.

Anyway, the majority of the Wounded Souls, or at least the base group, were in the same unit in the Australian armed forces, and they went through some shit, and it ended up with friends dead. While they were in the Sandbox, Ford and Bryce, AKA Lucky, had a secret relationship. Well, maybe not relationship so much as a series of encounters. Ford has always been out, and most of Bryce’s brothers in the MC know that he’s gay, but he’s closeted. And now that they’re both back and both in the same MC, there’s a lot of tension. You see, Lucky is engaged to a woman and is playing straight for his family, which is killing him and is hurting Ford so bad.

Like I said, I think that Ford is pretty awesome. He’s really comfortable with who he is. He is also the cool uncle to all the kids of the Wounded Souls, and they all love Fordy, because who wouldn’t? I’m back and forth on Lucky during this book. I think that most of my problem with him is the fact that he’s not comfortable with himself and he’s walking with a foot on each side of the line and it’s tearing him apart as well as a lot of other people. I don’t have problems with him for trying to figure out who he is and where he belongs, I have problems with the way that he is hurting people, I think. I don’t dislike him. I just don’t always like him, if you know what I mean. But Ford? Yeah, love him.

bmw-brand-luxury-104842

I hated Ava and I loved it when Bryce finally told her off. She totally deserved it, and she might have deserved even more than what he said.

I loved the idea of Darth watching out for everyone from above. It’s really awesome, and he really wouldn’t want to leave Shiloh alone.

OK, that’s all for this one today. Go check out the whole series, it’s in KU, and find out why I love Shiloh and why I think Ford is teh awesome. Happy reading!

A Zavarelli-Conor

For some reason, I feel ridiculously close to these books. Maybe it’s because Boston is only about 3.5 hours south of me, depending on how fast you drive, or it could be that I eat at Dunkies every chance I get, strawberry coolatta and bacon, egg, and cheese on croissant is my regular order, but sometimes I get a nice flavored latte, with tons of whipped cream, because everything is better with whipped cream. Maybe it’s because I’m of Irish descent, or I could just be ridiculously attached to bad boy anti-heroes who aren’t afraid to do what they need to in order to keep their families safe. Just like Conor.

One fateful night at Slainte, Crow points out a tiny little waif to Conor, tells him that she was Muerto’s girlfriend and was there the day that they did what needed to be done, so she knows things she shouldn’t oughta know, and now it’s his job to take care of her and do what needs to be done. Crow tells Conor it’s going to be easy to watch over her, since he just hired her as a dancer. She’s been asking him to hire her for several days, and he finally said yes. All Conor sees is a tiny little thing who is super skinny, who he figures is on drugs and is some kind of addict.

Sure, Ivy was Muerto’s girl, but there was so much more than that. Now the Locos are after her and she’s hiding from them. She’s trying to save up money so that she can get away. She has a plan, and she’s going to do everything she can to make that plan happen, and dancing at Slainte (pronounced slawn-che and meaning cheers in Irish Gaelic) is an easy way to do it. Plus, since the club is owned by the Irish mob, she figures she’ll at least be safe at work. Maybe they’ll help to keep the Locos off her back until she can escape Boston and be somewhere safe.

While following her, Conor finds out that she’s sleeping rough and that she’s hungry, not a junkie. He also finds out that she has a big secret, which is what changes his mind and makes him want to protect her instead of end her. The way that he does that is to marry her, because if she’s married to a member of the mob, no one will mess with her. Conor tells Ivy that’s what’s going to happen, and they visit the justice of the peace and get married, just like that.

I like Conor. He’s honorable and stands up to his own particular code, which is the code of the Irish syndicate that he’s part of. He’s done everything he can to help prove himself to Crow and the guys. I also kind of dislike Conor because he’s a little bit of an idiot when it comes to Ivy. If he would’ve talked to her more, he would’ve known more of what’s going on, instead, he had to be a mule-headed man and think that he knew what she was thinking and feeling. Gah, it makes me so angry when the big, bad, tough guys make decisions on their assumptions like that. Then again, you have to have some conflict to further the story, and hey, makeup sex is totally a thing, right? Ivy is a strong woman, used to doing everything on her own, and I like that about her, that she’s willing to stand up for what she needs to. I’m also frustrated by her because she needs to let someone help her out, and it takes a while for her to realize that she needs to let someone else be strong for her, and that Conor is more than willing to do that.

clover-clovers-green-158780

I wonder how much of this Crow planned. He seemed to know that things would happen in certain ways if he put Conor and Ivy together. Is he that sneaky? Yeah, probably. I mean, he never outright says what Conor should do to take care of Ivy, Conor just kind of reads in between the lines and assumes he knows what Crow wants. But, all Crow said was take care of it. The way that Conor handled it was definitely taking care of it.

And Slick? Ugh, what a jerk. Too bad Conor didn’t do more than just break his arm, because really, he needed more.

Well, that’s all I have to say about this one today. You will do yourself a real favor if you read all these stories, especially if you like the bad boy anti-hero type. Happy reading!

FORD
Ford had a pretty good life.
He was part of a former elite commando team, a talented computer genius, and a member of the Wounded Souls MC. He had a real family with his brothers, their women, and kids. Life was good. Well, it would be except for one big sexy issue—a tall helicopter pilot with a mouth and body made for sin. Lucky didn’t know it yet, but Ford was coming for him.
LUCKY
After the horrific shooting at the FOB while on deployment, Lucky took the medical discharge the army offered and ran back to the only place he was accepted just as himself. The Wounded Souls MC. After years of being a part-time member, he was now out of the army and healed, ready to do his bit. The only obstacle in his way was in the form of the club’s computer expert and go-to babysitter. His only hope of staying away from Ford and out of his bed was Lucky’s fiancée. But one look at his former lover had Lucky thinking maybe it was time to dig deep for some courage and finally reveal his true feelings, not only to his blood family but to the man who’d captured his heart and refused to give it back.
Did he want it back? Could he finally stand up to his powerful family and admit he wanted to be Ford’s man?

I love the idea of being in love. Since my early teens when I first discovered Silhouette Desire novels my life has been all about reading. I would find myself re-writing scenes if I wasn’t happy with them and hiding them under my bed. That led me to writing love stories of my own. They all ended up under the bed and are still there, and there they will stay. I don’t do angst, in fact it drives me crazy.

I am a mum of three beautiful girls, Australian, and have what most say is a weird sense of humor.

I spend my free time doing movie, Sons of Anarchy, and Friends marathons. And reading.

I love Pina Colada’s and getting caught in the rain….. there’s that weird humor.

When I stumbled into a mafia run club seeking a job, I was looking for protection. Little did I know I’d need protection from him.

Conor O’ Callahan was exactly the kind of danger I was trying to avoid. He was gorgeous as sin with an accent hotter than Hades, but that’s where the charm ended.

He was also cynical, cold, and downright cranky.

So, you could imagine my surprise when he gave me a proposition. Marry him or lose my life.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I’ve learned to do what’s necessary to survive in this world, and that includes marrying a mobster. Regardless of what he might say, it’s only temporary.

It’s not like I’m going to sleep with him. Or fall for him.

Because that would be stupid, right?

Her tales have been known to flirt with darkness and sometimes court it unabashedly altogether. Revenge themes and tortured souls are her favorites to write and this gives her an excuse to watch bizarre and twisted documentaries in her spare time.
She is slightly obsessed with Theo James and funny animal memes. If you don’t mind these things, you should add her on facebook.
