Kallista writes a pretty awesome menage series, the Tharan Warriors. The guys are identical twins who mate with one woman. Surprising Their Mate is a… not quite a sequel, more of a slice of life, related to the second book of that series. If you want to know more about the characters, go grab that one, it’s called Theirs to Tame.
The Tharan series isn’t exactly an alien abduction series, but it does have some of the same overtones to it. The Earther women on the Luna were captured by pirates who then attacked numerous worlds, including the Tharan homeworld.
Kyra was the engineer of the Luna and tried to help keep the pirates off all the women as much as possible. When the Tharans went looking for all the Earther women, she was the first one they found. Jax and Jynn found her and discovered she was their mate. They brought another alien girl named Ceres with them, and she is now their adopted daughter.
One thing we don’t always think about when we see stories like this is holidays. The human women tend to adjust to their mate’s worlds and festivities, but human holidays often get bypassed, like, oh say, Christmas. Some of us may be just fine with missing Christmas, but it’s not just the religious festival, it’s the cultural thing too. That can be really important for people who haven’t ever really had a Christmas but who are now trying to create their own family and their own traditions. That’s what’s happening with Kyra, Jax, Jynn, and Ceres. Kyra really never had a Christmas when she was a kid, but now that she’s a mother, she wants to make sure her daughter has Christmas and she wants to have it with her new mates.
So that’s what this book is about. It’s all about Kyra’s chance to share something that is important to her with her beloved mates and daughter. But more than that, this book, if you ask me, is about family and what makes a family. And I think that is perfect, and definitely perfect for Christmas.
