Anthology-Ladder 54

So, you want some really hot firefighters that are also seriously Domly types? Yeah, me too. I’m always ready for hot, Domly firefighters. Well, Maren Smith, Raisa Greywood, Adaline Raine, Isabella Laase, and Felicity Brandon certainly are too. In fact, they are so ready for them, that they decided that they would share the boys of Ladder 54 with us.

Here’s the setup for the story. In the little town of Big Banks, Montana, there is an exclusive BDSM club called the Crystal Cabin Club. The Cabin is run by Walt and Sophie. Walt also happens to be the fire chief of the little fire department of Big Banks. But he’s just been diagnosed with cancer, and the insurance won’t cover all the bills, especially things like transportation, hotel bills, because the hospital isn’t in Big Banks, and other such things. So to handle that, Sophie organized a fundraiser at the CCC. They are doing several things. One is that they are going to have a $200/head dinner. Then there are the auctions. One is a silent auction for things like a fancy Camaro, kinky photo shoots, and other nifty things. The other auction is for 5 Doms who are all part of the fire department. The lucky winner gets to have 24 hours with the Dom of her choice. And so here we go.

Maren Smith-The Dance Card

Rylee has been a member of the CCC for a while, but she’s also a wallflower, she’s never scened, but she will sit in the dark corners and watch what’s going on. When she finds out about the auction, she knows that there is one person that she really, really wants to bid on, Walker. And she’s willing to do just about anything to get him. Just ask Tammi Lou. Although, Walker isn’t unhappy that Tammi Lou isn’t the one who won him. No one likes her very much. But at the end of the auction, instead of talking to Walker, she rushes out and doesn’t answer his calls or texts. You see, Rylee is painfully shy and awkward, plus she feels really guilty about what she did to Tammi Lou.

I felt sorry for Rylee, well, maybe not sorry, but definitely sympathetic, because I’ve been the person who had a hard time talking to someone I liked, and I’ve been on Walker’s side of the equation too. It’s hard on both people. I like Walker, and I think he’ll be so good for her.

Raisa Greywood-Light Me Up

Selene isn’t a resident of Big Banks. She is a resident of Chicago, and grew up in Greektown. She had a crush on an older boy named Theo. A year ago, their mothers set them up for a date, only he decided to not go, but everyone else knew that before she did. Now, she has to go to a client meeting in Big Banks and she knows that Theo is a firefighter there. When she gets there, she finds out about the auction, so she decides to go, after Sophie invites her. Selene’s plan is to win Theo, show him what he missed, and then leave. She doesn’t need him at all. And oh yeah, she wants the tricked out 1968 Chevy Camaro too. If she wins that one, she’s planning on taking that one with her. Theo, she’s perfectly happy to leave in Big Banks, sucking her exhaust.

Theo sees a beautiful goddess with the tattoo of a Greek goddess, and he is thrilled when he finally sees her bid on him and win. It’s only when he hears Sophie announce Selene’s name as the winner that he is like oh shit. And then he turns into crazy overbearing Greek man.

I LOVE Selene. Raisa is really writing some great heroines lately. Theo needs a good, swift kick in the butt. Or two, or maybe even 3. But, I’m pretty sure that Selene could handle that, if necessary.

Adaline Raine-Rekindled

Troy is one of our firefighters and was more than happy to help out Walt and Sophie. Then he finds out that the woman who won him is Dakota, his ex-wife. Or, his legally separated wife. She ran out on him years ago, and now, she’s apparently back in town. Yay? There is so much history there that they are going to have to figure out and that could get in there way, but he’s more than happy to spank her since she did win him, and all.

I love a good second chance story, and this is a good one. There is so much in between them, and neither one of them are perfect or blameless. They went through some stuff that’s hard on marriages at the best of times, and I’m pretty sure they didn’t have the best of times.

Isabella Laase-Firehouse 54

Declan has seen 3 of his firefighter brothers go down, and he’ll be damned if he’s going to be number 4. In fact, he is planning on doing the bare minimum when it comes to his “date”. A couple of meals, a couple swats over the clothes, and he’s off to his fishing cabin. In fact, he’s so not into it that he didn’t even meet the woman who won him or look in her file. He just shows up at the Cabin, expecting to have a couple of free hours to look at the file, but then he sees the camper that his date is driving already there.

What Declan doesn’t know is that he doesn’t have A date. He has TWO dates. Claire and Claudia are identical twins. They’ve pulled the old switcharoo more than once in their lives, because no one can tell them apart, and so Claudia figures that they can do it for this too. They will just split the time and no one will be the wiser. But of course, we know that it never works out that way.

I really didn’t like Claudia. I don’t think that she ever really listens to anyone but Claudia. She will definitely need a good Dom to keep her in line. Claire and Declan are pretty sweet together though.

Felicity Brandon-A Hero For Lauren

Lauren is over from England, specifically for this auction. That’s because she has a thing for firefighters. Or rather, for one firefighter. When she was younger, Blake saved her from a fire, before her family moved to England. She’s crushed on him ever since, and now that she took the chance and won him in an auction, she’s finally going to get the chance to actually play with the man that she’s been dreaming and fantasizing about for years. Only she keeps getting phone calls that stress her out while they are supposed to be enjoying themselves.

That’s some serious crush that Lauren has. Not that I blame her. I mean, firefighter. But still, she went to some extremes to get to the auction and to win her dream date. Blake is very sweet to her though. I liked him a lot.

Jennifer Bene-Deviant Attraction

Jennifer Bene has a new release out. While it may look like a brand new book, and it sort of is, Deviant Attraction is actually a box set of 3 of Jennifer’s shorts, The Rite, Reunited, and The Invitation. There are also shorts or extended endings that go with each of the stories, so you are getting a whole lot packed into one book. Plus, have you looked at the awesome cover? I am loving it.

I read all 3 of these stories back when I first discovered Jennifer Bene, and I loved them all so very, very much. And I’m really happy to see them out in a new release so that they can get a little bit of love. I’m just going to write a little bit about each one, because they are shorter, and you know how I hate to spoil anything for anyone. I try really hard not to. I mean, if you want spoilers, feel free to message me anywhere, and I will give you all the spoilers you want, but I won’t on here. (Spoiler, Han shot first.) So, in the order in which the stories appear, let’s talk about Jennifer’s stories.

The Invitation

Cara’s roommate Meredith has always had pretty things sent to their house, so when Meredith asks Cara if she wants to make some big money that night, Cara says yes, and then goes to a party with her, to stand around, look pretty, and flirt. Only, Cara meets Saif and Grant and her party turns into something different. And so do invitations that she gets later.

This was a super hot story, and I loved everything that happened in it. Who doesn’t want to get an invitation to their fantasies? Sign me up, please. You don’t even have to give me $1500, not that I would complain.

Reunited

Megan is back to go to her 10 year high school reunion, after trying to put her life together after a disastrous marriage. But her sister, who was pushy and knew how to push Megan’s buttons, pretty much dared her to go. Then she sees Eric, who she dated in high school. They played fun games together too. Then Colby shows up, who was a player. And they decide that they need to play games together.

I need to be honest here. I have never been to any of my high school reunions. I don’t ever see myself going to any of my high school reunions, but if I had gone to high school with Colby and Eric, I would definitely have considered going. Especially if it would have included visiting the shop room to play some grown-up games. I’m all about grown-up games.

The Rite

Heather is a member of a bitchy witchy family. She hasn’t come into her powers yet. In order to do that, she has to perform a special rite with a man. Her cousin talks her into speed dating so that she can find the perfect guy for the ritual. But first, she has to stop and visit her friend, Rick. At speed dating, she meets Neil, and things seem to be on track.

Of all the stories in this set, this is the darkest. But, for a Jennifer Bene story, it’s really not all that dark. But, it is the perfect amount of dark for this story. And I loved it. I didn’t see where things were going on this one, but I adored how it went.

If you haven’t read any Jennifer Bene yet, and if not, why haven’t you, then this is a good way for you to get started. Lee Savino & Golden Angel-Alien Captive

These two naughty authors got together to give us a really, really naughty book. Really, really, REALLY naughty. And OMFG hot. Alien Captive kept me captive from start to finish. It was almost enough to make me turn off my Kindle and put it away. But only almost. Or was it? Was it just a further reason to keep reading forever and ever, and to maybe not sleep because I was reading? I’ll never tell. You’ll just have to guess. But if I were you, I’d pay attention to what you’re reading, especially when it comes to Lee and Angel’s books.

Here’s how it goes. The Tsenturions are nearly extinct. The bad guys destroyed their planet when everyone should’ve been on planet. However, there was one ship that was not there, so they didn’t die. Now, for the past thousand years, they’ve been protecting the Jabols and fighting the Vgotha. When these guys die, their species is completely gone because they have no females. However, the Jabols have a plan for that. They have decided to take advantage of the e-reader and naughty book readers out there.

Dawn is a yoga instructor with very few connections to people. She lives alone, her family is dead, her house is the biggest connection she has, except for the mysterious e-reader she got in the mail. The e-reader that she has loaded up with all kinds of books by all kinds of authors, whose names are all mentioned in the book as her fave authors (and who I’ve all read, include Tracy St. John and her two cocked aliens). There’s also a series called the Tsenturion Trilogy. It’s a series about women who have been taken to be Tribute for the Tsenturions to help rebuild their race. Just as she finishes the series, again, there’s a huge storm and all of a sudden she sees a big flash of light.

Then she wakes up strapped to a table with an alien standing over her telling her that she has been selected to be a Tribute to the Tsenturion High Commander, Gavrill. And oh, to make sure that she’s ready for him, they’ve attached a Bride Training device which vibrates and trains her for him. Keeps her just on the edge for a very, very, very loooooong time.

Meanwhile, somewhere else in the galaxy, Gavrill and his crew are outside of a nebula watching for the Vgotha. Then he gets the message that his Tribute is ready. After arguing with Bogdan, his second, he decides that he’s going to go get her. When they meet, she passes out because of the strength of her orgasm around him. That’s a fucking great orgasm. Then they get all hot and dirty, and Dawn is introduced to his cock, and the seela. Basically, what we’re looking at is an alien cock with a flared head, almost like a cobra, within a nest of little tentacles, with one that would hit pretty much right at her clit. Yes, please.

There is a lot of mind-blowing sex going on. Pretty much exactly mind-blowing for Dawn, who passes out a couple of times from all the orgasms. I mean, dayum. But, for all of that amazing sex and magical tentacle cocks going on, there’s so much more to this story. Remember, this is a first contact situation all around, and think of all the complications that arise whenever any two new groups meet. It’s never easy. And it’s not any easier here, especially when you walk into a situation where it’s a ship full of boys who are wanting revenge and have wanted nothing but revenge for a millennium. (That’s just a fun word to say, don’t you think?) I love Medik, the ship’s doctor. He’s a kindly sort. I just want him to say I’m a doctor, not an engineer, physicist…. But that’s because I’m a huge geek, and I would totally laugh my ass off at it. What? My first love was scifi. My first crushes were Princess Leia and Han Solo. Give me a break.

I think that both Gavrill and Dawn needed to sit down and think about the fact that they are dealing with a different species and one with a different set of cultural norms and standards. I got really mad at Gavrill and even madder at Bogdan. I understand, mostly where B was coming from, but he has to stop and realize that things are going to be different now and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And really, isn’t a millennium of revenge enough?

The Vgotha are interesting. I’d love to find out a lot more about them. Symbiotic ships sound super awesome to me.

I love the idea of being in love. Since my early teens when I first discovered Silhouette Desire novels my life has been all about reading.
